Ashford looked skeptical. "Three hundred teams for a single shipment?"

"The rails," Edward murmured.

"Correct."

Silence descended once more.

Edward leaned back into his velvet chair, looking at the young engineer. He remembered Ernest as a quiet boy working over an anvil in Hollen’s small town forge. Hollen muttered under his breath, "Of course he bloody has."

Ernest lowered his hand, looking King Edward dead in the eye.

"Without those statutory powers, Your Majesty... Teucher Industrial Group can build a very large private factory railway inside our own basin."

He paused, letting his voice carry the full weight of his vision.

"But with them... we can build the Kingdom’s first National Railway."

King Edward did not answer immediately. He slowly rose from his chair and walked the length of the conference table, staring down at the map of his realm.

King Edward watched Ernest’s finger sweep across the parchment.

"How much of my kingdom do you ultimately intend to connect, Ernest?"

Ernest stopped. His hand rested flat over the geographic center of the realm, his eyes meeting King Edward’s with absolute, unwavering clarity.
