Chapter 190: Returning Back To The Family
Chapter 190
Meanwhile on Nyx’s side, the convoy did not travel for very long before the surrounding scenery gradually changed, with the roads soon becoming wider and more heavily guarded as they approached a private military airport reserved exclusively for the Von Aurelian family.
Nyx remained silent throughout the journey, with her expression cold and indifferent as she stared through the window without really paying attention to anything outside.
She knew she was returning to the one place she had once called home, at a point in her life. But yet strangely, she felt almost nothing now. Perhaps it was because too much time had passed.
Or perhaps the years she had spent away from the family had changed her more than she realized.
When the vehicles finally stopped inside the airport, several soldiers immediately approached and opened the doors for them.
Standing beyond the vehicles were several magnificent private jets. One of them immediately stood out from the rest.
It was a majestic military luxury jet that looked more like a flying palace than an ordinary aircraft. Its powerful and sleek metallic body reflected the lights of the airport while several advanced systems were visible beneath its wings.
It was clearly built for both comfort and military purposes, and judging from its appearance alone, it was something that even the wealthiest civilian could only dream of owning. Truly the peak of aircrafts in 2009.
That was Caelan’s personal jet.
The other members of his forces boarded another military private jet nearby. Although it wasn’t nearly as impressive as Caelan’s aircraft, it was still one of the most advanced private jets of this era and could easily be considered a peak luxury aircraft.
Nyx barely glanced at either one.
She simply stepped out of the vehicle and entered her father’s jet with a cold, almost mechanical expression. Jade followed behind her, while Lucian entered shortly afterward. Caelan was the last one to enter.
Once everyone was seated, the doors were sealed and the engines soon came to life.
Lucian looked around the cabin. The atmosphere was unbearably heavy. He glanced at Nyx, then at Jade, before finally sighing.
"You know, considering we’re finally returning to the main family after so many years, I thought everyone would at least be a little happier."
Neither sister responded. Nyx continued staring out the window. While Jade merely looked at him with an indifferent expression before turning her attention elsewhere.
Lucian scratched his head awkwardly.
"Alright, that didn’t work."
Jade glanced at him again. For a moment, it seemed like she wanted to say something. Her lips even parted slightly. But after looking at Nyx, she eventually decided against it and remained silent.
Lucian noticed the look but didn’t press her.
The aircraft soon lifted from the ground.
Unlike ordinary civilian private jets, military luxury jets such as these were capable of cruising at speeds far beyond those of conventional aircraft. As a result, the journey that would normally have taken considerably longer was completed in less than two hours.
Throughout most of the flight, Nyx remained silent. She didn’t sleep or speak. All she did was that she simply sat there, quietly thinking about what awaited her, while subtly stroking her stomach where her child resided.
Eventually, the pilot’s voice came through the communication system.
"We are approaching the Von Aurelian main family island."
Nyx slowly raised her head. Jade also looked toward the window.
The moment the clouds cleared, the enormous island came into view. Even after spending years away from it, Nyx couldn’t deny that the sight was breathtaking.
The Von Aurelian main family island had existed for several centuries, gradually expanding through generations of wealth and influence until it had become almost like a miniature country of its own.
From the sky, the island looked almost like paradise.
Crystal-clear blue waters surrounded the enormous landmass, while carefully designed beaches stretched along parts of the coastline. Several luxurious villas were scattered throughout the island, each one large enough to make the most expensive mansions in the country look like ordinary houses.
There was even a massive private resort reserved exclusively for family members and their guests.
Farther inland was a vast artificial forest used for hunting games, along with private lakes, gardens, training grounds, sports facilities, military installations, and countless other structures.
It was essentially a miniature town built exclusively for the Von Aurelian family.
However, beneath the luxurious appearance was an extremely strict security system.
Hundreds of soldiers and Awakeneds were stationed throughout the island, many of them standing at strategic positions while others patrolled the surrounding areas.
Every person stationed there looked alert and prepared for any possible threat.
Nyx stared at the island for several seconds. She remembered this place and her childhood here. She remembered running through those gardens with Jade, Lucian and her cousins.
She remembered her mother’s smile. She remembered her grandfather. And most importantly she remembered the day everything had changed.
Her expression slowly became colder.
The jets eventually descended toward a massive private airport built on the eastern side of the island.
The airport itself was enormous, with several hangars large enough to accommodate multiple aircraft at once.
As Caelan’s jet landed inside one of the largest hangars, Nyx noticed countless private jets already parked inside. With each one looking different from the other.
Some were sleek and modern, while others were enormous luxury aircraft that looked more suited for heads of state. And the thing they all had in common was that every single one of them belonged to a member of the Von Aurelian family.
It was apparently customary for important family members to possess their own personal private jets.
Once the aircraft came to a complete stop, the doors opened. Caelan stepped out first. Followed by Nyx, Jade, and Lucian
The soldiers and attendants remained behind as the four of them entered an off-road luxury vehicle waiting nearby.
The vehicle then drove through the island at a steady pace.
Nyx remained quiet as she watched the scenery pass by.
Eventually, the vehicle arrived at the main family residence.
The mansion was enormous to look at. None of her mansions back home could ever hope to compare with this one. It looked more like a royal palace surrounded by beautiful gardens and carefully maintained grounds.
The moment the vehicle stopped, Caelan stepped out.
Nyx followed with Jade and Lucian.
However, before they could enter the mansion, a familiar figure suddenly rushed toward them.
"Nyx!"
Nyx’s eyes widened slightly.
A beautiful woman almost on par with Nyx herself, was approaching them.
She appeared to be in her early forties, yet her appearance was so youthful that anyone unfamiliar with her would probably assume she was barely in her early thirties.
The beautiful woman possessed an elegant, curvaceous figure and long, well-maintained dark brown hair. Her ocean-blue eyes were captivating enough to stir the emotions of anyone who met her gaze, while her graceful bearing carried an innate sense of nobility and royalty.
She was Eliza, the mother of Nyx, Jade, and Lucian.
The moment she saw her children, her eyes immediately sparkled with barely concealed joy. Without caring about anyone watching, she rushed forward and embraced her two daughters.
"My babies!"
Tears immediately began streaming down her cheeks as she hugged them tightly.
"Look at you two! You’ve grown so much. Are you eating properly? Are you sleeping well? Have you been taking care of yourselves?"
Jade smiled warmly as she hugged her mother back.
"Mom, we’re fine."
Their mother pulled back slightly and began looking over Jade from head to toe before turning toward Nyx.
Nyx remained silent for a moment before giving her mother a faint smile.
"I’m fine too, Mom."
Her mother’s eyes immediately became moist again.
"You’ve both grown so beautiful."
Caelan cleared his throat.
"Honey, please, enough. You’ll have plenty of time to talk with them later, but Father wants to speak with them now, most especially Nyx."
The woman’s expression froze. She slowly turned toward Caelan.
"Father?"
Caelan nodded.
"He’s waiting."
Her expression became slightly more serious.
"Okay."
Lucian, who had been standing nearby, muttered under his breath.
"Of course. She’s always cheerful whenever she sees her elder daughter and younger daughter, but she scolds me every time she sees me."
His mother’s head immediately snapped toward him.
"What was that, you little brat?"
Lucian’s face instantly changed.
"Nothing."
His mother walked over and lightly grabbed his ear.
"Ouch! Mom!"
"What did you say?"
"I said you’re beautiful!"
His mother narrowed her eyes.
"Really?"
"Yes really! Would I ever lie to you?"
She finally released his ear.
Lucian immediately used that chance to bolt away with his inhuman speed, breaking the sound barrier before disappearing from sight.
Eliza stared at the empty space where he had been standing, before shaking her head.
"That boy..."
Jade couldn’t help but smile.
Nyx also showed the faintest trace of amusement.
Caelan shook his head.
"Some things never change."
He then turned toward Nyx.
"Come. Father is waiting for you."
Nyx’s expression immediately became serious again.
"Jade is coming with me."
Caelan looked at her.
"Nyx, this is a private conversation."
"I don’t care."
Her tone was calm but firm.
"If you’re taking me somewhere and expecting me to meet Grandfather after all these years, then Jade is coming with me."
Caelan stared at her for several seconds.
Jade remained beside Nyx without saying anything.
Eventually, Caelan sighed.
"Fine, you stubborn little girl."
The three of them entered the mansion. They first walked through several enormous hallways before finally reaching a large wooden door.
Caelan stopped.
"Father is inside."
Nyx looked at the door. Her heart remained surprisingly calm despite knowing the fact that she was about to meet her grandfather after such a long time
Caelan opened it. Nyx and Jade entered. The study was enormous, with several bookshelves covering the walls and countless ancient books arranged neatly across them.
At the center of the room sat an extraordinarily handsome man.
He looked no older than his late thirties. And he had black luscious hair, sharp amber eyes that resembled hers and her father’s, and a handsome face that could easily make the hearts of countless women race.
Anyone who didn’t know his true identity might have assumed he was Caelan’s older brother rather than his father. Yet the man was actually around four hundred years old.
The reason he could maintain such a youthful appearance was simple. He was a Master Realm Awakened.
And unlike Caelan, he was an even more formidable existence since he had lived much more longer with precious experience.
The man slowly lifted his head from the book he had been reading, and his sharp amber eyes immediately landed on Nyx and Jade. A smile then appeared on his face as he closed the book he had been reading.
"Good. Good. It’s good to see you again, my two granddaughters."
Nyx remained silent, while Jade bowed slightly.
"Grandfather."
The man’s eyes shifted toward Jade.
He studied her for several seconds before his eyebrows slowly rose.
"Hmm?" His expression became one of genuine surprise. "You’re already an Ascendant Realm Awakened?"
Jade nodded.
"Yes, Grandfather."
The old man’s smile widened.
"Interesting." He leaned back slightly in his chair. "Even your brother only broke through to the Ascendant Realm when he was twenty-two, and he was considered a once-in-a-lifetime prodigy."
His gaze became filled with pride.
"But you, my dear, have already reached that realm at your age."
He laughed softly.
"Really impressive. The children of the Von Aurelian family truly are all talented. It wouldn’t take long before you reach the Realm that has stumped both me and your father. The Transcendent Realm."
Jade smiled faintly. Nyx, however, remained expressionless. She had no interest in discussing talent. There was only one reason she had returned. And she wanted her answer.
"Why did you call me back, Grandfather?"
The old man’s smile faded slightly.
Nyx stepped forward.
"You cut me off from the family years ago. You made it clear that I was no longer part of the Von Aurelians." Her amber eyes remained cold and unwavering.
"I know you’re not someone who goes back on your word, so there must be a very good reason why you suddenly changed your mind."
The room became silent as the old man stared at his granddaughter for several seconds. Then a faint smile slowly returned to his face.
"Alas..." He shook his head lightly. "Bright as ever, I see. You really do have my sharp brain."
He placed his book down on the table.
"Yes."
His expression became serious.
"I won’t mince my words then..."
