Chapter 191

"I won’t mince my words then."

Her grandfather, Aldrich the third’s expression became more serious as he leaned back in his chair, with his always sharp amber eyes remaining fixed on Nyx.

"You already know that there has always been a complicated relationship between our family and the House of Blumonté."

Nyx remained silent. She knew that much.

The two families were the only recognized Great Families within the United States, and although they maintained a relatively peaceful relationship on the surface, neither side had ever truly trusted the other.

Aldrich continued.

"Things became even more complicated after you so blatantly rejected the eldest son of the House of Blumonté."

Nyx’s expression didn’t change. She remembered him.

The young man had been pursuing her for years, and despite being talented, wealthy, handsome not that she really cared, and born into one of the two most powerful families in the country, she had rejected him without any sort of hesitation.

She had never been interested in him.

"I don’t regret rejecting him," Nyx said calmly.

"Sigh. I already know." Aldrich gave a faint smile. "You were never the type to regret your decisions even if it would later result in reparcussion."

His smile gradually faded.

"However, your rejection created certain complications between the two families. Just like I feared at that time, the Blumontés naturally weren’t exactly pleased that their eldest heir had been rejected by our family, especially when both families had been discussing the possibility of a marriage alliance."

Nyx remained expressionless. She already had a vague idea of where this conversation was heading to.

"Then, just a few days ago, we received some rather important news."

Aldrich paused. "That young man has broken through to the Master Realm."

Nyx’s amber eyes narrowed slightly. Even Jade’s expression changed.

"Master Realm?"

Aldrich nodded.

"Yes. He has successfully broken through. And all at just the young age of forty years old. Even your father only broke through to Master Realm at the age of fifty one and it was already a feat beyond anything I’ve ever seen."

His voice carried a trace of solemnity.

"With his breakthrough now, the House of Blumonté now possesses three Master Realm Awakeneds."

"While Your father and I are currently the only two Master Realm Awakeneds within the Von Aurelian family." His eyes became slightly colder. "That means now the balance between our two families has shifted in a way that is unfavorable for us."

Nyx finally understood why her grandfather had suddenly called her back. She narrowed her eyes slightly and said calmly.

"So let me guess. Since he has now broken through to the Master Realm, one of the reasons you wanted me back must be because he came with his grandfather to say that he still loves me."

Her tone remained cold.

"And knowing that a marriage alliance with the now stronger House of Blumonté would benefit the Von Aurelian family, you had Father forcefully bring me back home even after disowning me a while back."

Aldrich remained silent for several seconds before nodding.

"Yes. You’ve guessed correctly. I knew that you would understand the situation immediately."

Nyx’s expression remained indifferent. She already expected as much.

For a while, nobody spoke. Then Nyx quietly said, "Just like I told you the last time, I’ll say it again. I will not marry that man from the House of Blumonté."

Aldrich’s expression gradually turned cold.

"When did I ever say you had any say in this decision?"

The atmosphere inside the study suddenly became heavier, making even her fingers to tighten slightly.

She had already expected what he had just said, but hearing those words out loud still made her heart sink.

For someone like Aldrich, the interests of the Von Aurelian family would always come before the wishes of an individual family member. Even if that individual happened to be his very own granddaughter.

Nyx remained silent for several seconds before finally saying, "This time, I already have a man whom I plan to marry."

Aldrich’s eyebrows rose slightly.

"A man?"

His gaze shifted toward Caelan. Caelan remained silent for a moment before lightly clearing his throat.

"I’ve met the young man, Father. He is very promising. At a very young age, he’s already an Ascendant Realm Awakened, and he possesses not just one but two abilities."

Aldrich’s expression became slightly more interesting.

"Did you just say double abilities, son?"

"Yes Father." Caelan nodded. "Just that alone gives him a much greater possibility of eventually reaching the legendary, Transcendent Realm. His potential is considerable."

He paused briefly before choosing to continue.

"More importantly, I personally tested him."

Aldrich’s eyes narrowed.

"How did he perform?"

Caelan’s expression remained calm.

"Hmm. I would say he did do very well for an Ascendant Realm. He was able to overpower Morgan in a fight and endured an attack from me that would have knocked out any other Ascendant Realm Awakened."

"And... even though he was severely injured back then, he still managed to get back up."

His gaze became slightly distant as he remembered the sight.

"He even used his abilities to rescue everyone trapped inside the mansion despite his injuries. The thing that really left a mark on me was his grit and willpower. The young man truly possesses an exceptional willpower. One of the best I’ve encountered in my entire life."

Aldrich remained quiet for several seconds.

"The boy is as you say, then he is indeed promising." His gaze shifted toward Nyx. "With such talent, perhaps I might have considered making him a son-in-law of the Von Aurelian family and keeping him here."

"But unfortunately, with the eldest son of the House of Blumonté already reaching the Master Realm, I cannot make decisions based purely on potential."

His voice became firm.

"I have to choose the better option."

Nyx clenched her fists beneath her sleeves. She had expected this but that didn’t mean she didn’t loathe this.

Her grandfather had lived for several centuries. So to someone like him, family members were important, but the survival and prosperity of the entire family would always come first.

Nyx’s thoughts raced.

If she didn’t find another solution, her grandfather would most likely confine her somewhere inside the old family residence and have several Ascendant Realm Awakeneds guard her around the clock.

There was no chance she could simply walk away. And telling him about her pregnancy would not help her situation. If anything, it might make things even worse than it already is.

If her grandfather discovered that she was carrying a child, he might regard the unborn child as another variable that could complicate the situation.

Knowing her grandfather, he would most certainly order the finest doctors in the country to deal with the problem before the child was born.

Aldrich had lived far too long to be sentimental about such things.

He had children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren scattered throughout the family.

To him, sacrificing one unborn descendant for the stability of the entire Von Aurelian family could easily be justified as the correct decision.

Nyx’s heart tightened at the thought.

No. She would allow no such thing to happen to her baby. Her mind moved rapidly as she considered one possibility after the other as quickly as possible.

Even though her mother was the princess from one of the most powerful European countries in the world, appealing to her wouldn’t work.

Her mother loved her, but she wouldn’t openly oppose Aldrich in a matter involving the future of the family.

Her father, strict and commanding as he was, was unlikely to force her into anything himself, but even he couldn’t openly challenge his father’s authority over the entire family.

Running away was even worse. The Von Aurelian family could find her anywhere in the world with a snap of their fingers. Their billion dollar satellite in space wasn’t just there for show.

She needed something that would make Aldrich hesitate.

Something that would make him believe allowing her to remain with Alex was a better investment than forcing her into a marriage alliance.

Then a plausible idea that had much more lower risks than the countless ideas she had come up with in just a couple of seconds, suddenly formed in her mind.

Nyx slowly raised her head.

"What if I told you that the man I want to be with rose from the Early Realm to the Ascendant Realm in less than two months?"

The entire room became deathly silent. Aldrich’s eyes widened with both shock and disbelief. And before he could stop himself he blurted out.

"Less than two months?"

"Yes."

Nyx’s voice remained calm.

"His growth speed is extremely fast, and there is no doubt in my mind that he can eventually break through to the Master Realm faster than even that man from the House of Blumonté."

"Are you certain?"

"I never lie."

Nyx answered without any hesitation. Aldrich leaned back in his chair. He knew his granddaughter’s intelligence better than almost anyone.

Nyx had always been extraordinarily calculating, and she rarely made claims without having some degree of confidence behind them.

Still, what she was describing was impossible. In all his life and that of the others before him, none had ever seen a person break through that fast.

Breaking through from Early Realm to Ascendant Realm in less than two months was already an extraordinary feat. Even among the geniuses of the Von Aurelian family, such growth was almost unheard of.

Aldrich fell into deep thought.

Nyx watched him carefully. She knew she had to push further if she wanted to reach anywhere.

"I’ll make a deal with you. Three months." Nyx’s voice was firm. "Give him only three months."

She continued before he could interrupt.

"If he fails to break through to the Master Realm and come for me within those three months, then I’ll willingly marry the heir of the House of Blumonté."

Jade’s eyes widened slightly. She immediately understood what Nyx was doing.

Nyx, however, deliberately left out one crucial detail.

She couldn’t tell her grandfather that Alex’s growth could even make female Awakeneds he had slept with enter the same realm as him.

If Aldrich ever discovered that information, there was no telling what he would do.

There was a high possibility that he might even attempt to turn Alex into nothing more than a breeding tool for the Von Aurelian family.

That was something Nyx absolutely refused to allow.

Aldrich stared at her for a long time.

"Are you really serious?"

"Yes."

"You’re willing to marry the Blumonté heir if he doesn’t reach the Master Realm within three months?"

"Yes."

Aldrich’s eyes narrowed.

"And you believe this young man can accomplish it?"

"I do."

Nyx’s voice remained unwavering.

Aldrich studied her face carefully, searching for hesitation or deception. Then he finally sighed.

"I will choose to spare you the benefits of doubt. But understand this."

Aldrich’s expression became stern.

"If this is nothing more than a trick to delay the marriage, and your young man fails to reach the Master Realm within three months, then you will marry the heir of the House of Blumonté."

Nyx nodded.

"I agree."

"Good."

Aldrich leaned back in his chair.

"Then we have a deal."

Nyx turned around.

"Let’s go, Jade."

Jade nodded and followed her toward the door.

Caelan remained behind. Since he apparently still had something important to discuss with his Father.

Nyx made sure to close the door behind her and continued walking down the enormous hallway with Jade beside her. The moment they were far enough from the study, she then reached into her clothes and quietly pulled out her phone that was still connected in a call. Something she had done on the way to her grandfather’s study.

It turned out Doris had been listening the entire time.

Nyx lowered her voice.

"Doris."

"I’m here, Boss."

"Tell me you recorded that conversation."

There was a brief silence.

"I did."

Nyx finally released the breath she had been holding.

"Good."

She continued walking.

"Find a way to let Alex accidentally know everything that happened. If he knows, then it will add to his already awakened desire to grow stronger."

Doris understood immediately.

"Do you really think he can reach the Master Realm within three months?"

Nyx looked ahead. Her expression remained cold, but there was absolute confidence in her amber eyes.

"I don’t know if he can.... But from all the signs so far, I believe he has a very good chance."

Doris remained silent for a moment before answering.

"Okay."

Then her voice softened.

"And Boss?"

"Yes?"

"I miss you so much."

Nyx’s expression softened slightly.

"I miss you too."

Doris smiled faintly on the other end.

"I’ll take care of everything here."

"I know... And please do help me watch over him."
