Chapter 1153: Think About It—Cherish Yourself!
Gu Anxi really was a bit exhausted. She reached up and took off her mask. "The surgery is about to be over. If you go in now, you’ll only be in the way."
Lu Xueman had suffered in silence earlier; now with eight strong bodyguards backing her up, she was full of confidence and hell-bent on "rescuing" her son. She stepped forward two paces. "What if I insist on seeing my son right now? Who knows if you’re hurting him or not."
As soon as she finished, a doctor stepped out from behind her—old style, old vibe, who knew where Lu Xueman had dug him up. In Gu Anxi’s eyes he just looked pitifully shabby.
She was tired, leaning against the wall at the side, her expression half-smile, half-not. "Lu Heng’s leg was only saved—well, that little stub of it—because we implanted a new type of fiber. May I ask if this gentleman knows anything about this not-yet-on-the-market material? Knows its properties? What exactly can he do if he goes in?"
Lu Xueman’s face froze. After a long moment she muttered, "So it was an unmarketed medical material. Gu Anxi, you and Bo Xichen are both black-hearted doctors. Our Lu Family can’t compare to you two."
Gu Anxi was speechless and rolled her eyes. "When it comes to being vicious, who can beat the Lu Family?"
She was getting impatient and asked the nurse beside her, "Where’s security? Why aren’t they here yet?"
The nurse’s legs were shaking too, terrified that if Lu Xueman had a sudden impulse and rushed in... Everyone knew the operating room was sterile. That pig-brained woman didn’t understand a thing—she’d hurt her own son and drag their hospital down with him.
She swallowed. "They should... be here soon."
Gu Anxi tilted her head and gave her a sidelong glance. Then she flicked her hand, and suddenly there was a razor-thin blade between her fingers, gleaming coldly.
Lu Xueman stepped back and sucked in a breath. "What are you trying to do? With so many people here, are you planning to kill me?"
Gu Anxi’s hand lifted lightly, and that blade sliced right past Lu Xueman’s ear.
A line of blood appeared, and Lu Xueman almost didn’t feel any pain.
But a few seconds later, she let out a scream.
Blood. It was actually bleeding.
Was her ear falling off?
She started shrieking like a slaughtered pig. Gu Anxi rolled her eyes again. "See? Her own life is way more important than her son’s. Just a tiny scratch and she’s wailing to the heavens."
Lu Xueman reached up to touch her ear. It was still there, just a shallow line of blood, a tiny bit of bleeding.
But she didn’t doubt for a second that if Gu Anxi really wanted her dead, it would only take a split second—because there was a knife buried in the wall... This girl was vicious, downright inhuman.
She cursed in her heart, but her legs had gone weak...
Right then, security finally showed up—forty or fifty men pouring in at once. They half-pulled, half-dragged Lu Xueman away. She looked a bit dazed...
Leaning against the wall, Gu Anxi turned her head and said to the nurse, "Go see how Director Hao is doing."
The nurse was indignant. "You’re doing everything you can for Mr. Lu, and his mother still misunderstands you like this. I’ve never seen anyone like her."
Gu Anxi smiled. "She’s just spoiled, nothing better to do, so she makes a scene. Look at her—she was scared to death."
That one sentence made the little nurse laugh again. She supported Gu Anxi. "Then you wait here a bit. I’ll ask and come right back, and then I’ll help you go rest."
Gu Anxi nodded.
The nurse had just let go when she sensed something was wrong. She turned back and saw Gu Anxi’s body going limp and collapsing. Startled, she caught her immediately. Her movement was too quick; her own arm was pulled sharply and hurt like hell, but she gritted her teeth and slowly eased Gu Anxi down while shouting, "Someone, help! Doctor Gu just fainted! Call the obstetrics doctor!"
Gu Anxi hadn’t completely blacked out. Leaning against the nurse’s shoulder, she gave a helpless little smile. "Why are you calling obstetrics for? It’s just low blood sugar. An IV with normal saline will do."
The little nurse pressed her lips together, wanting to laugh and cry at the same time, and also... it really hurt.
Because of Gu Anxi’s condition, Madam Bo and the old Mr. Bo rushed over soon after, hearts aching to death. The old man wasn’t afraid of being cheesy, fussing over her like a baby—pouring tea, handing water, utterly attentive.
Not just them—Old Wang and Old Mrs. Wang came too. The old man watched the Bo Family patriarch acting like this, mocking him like crazy in his heart and feeling a bit contemptuous. Being a man like that—no backbone at all.
The old lady, however, had come properly to see the child. She and Madam Bo sat together discussing nutritional supplements and how to nourish the body. She even brought out Lin Hua’s whole regimen and went through it in detail for Madam Bo—one talking patiently, the other listening just as patiently. When she finished, Madam Bo smiled. "I really didn’t realize raising a child now is so different from back then."
The old lady smiled as well. "Yes, very different from before."
Then her face hardened, and she turned to Gu Anxi. "Look at you, child..."
She hadn’t even finished when, over on the other side, after confirming her son was fine and hearing that Old Mrs. Wang had arrived, Lu Xueman came over to complain. She felt she had the moral high ground—her son had earned merit last time and lost most of his leg for it; and today’s matter was obviously on Gu Anxi. She’d finally caught a chance, how could she not make a big deal of it?
She came in, didn’t even have time for a sip of tea or a word of small talk, when the old lady started speaking.
Of course, the old lady had already noticed this stunning beauty from the corner of her eye. She naturally knew about her past with Bo Nianyao in their younger days—after all, the Bo Family was the first family of Beicheng. But she’d also heard this Mrs. Lu didn’t exactly behave herself. Back when she was in Jiangcheng she liked to play "luminous poker" with Bo Nianyao at night. Lin Yun hadn’t said anything, yet this woman made it her daily mission to give Anxi grief and even drove Anxi to exhaustion like this.
The old lady had a temper and a lofty status; she said whatever she liked, however she liked.
Of course, her words were aimed at her own "kid," merciless and sharp-tongued. "Let me tell you, that Lu Heng—half-dead, half-alive; whether that leg is sawed halfway off or all the way off, why on earth are you and Xichen worrying yourselves sick over it? If you ask me, the safest way is to saw it all off. That way no one can come bother you later, babbling about some not-yet-on-the-market crap. You’ve done them a world of good, but there’s no end to their bullshit. They’re the ones who delayed their own treatment, what are you so anxious about? You’re out here hell-bent on saving lives while they’re bringing eight bodyguards just to show off. You’re just a little doctor—what are you doing butting heads with them? Think you can win? Look at you now, lying here all dusty and beaten. If you meet someone sensible, they’d be grateful you’re out saving the world while pregnant. But if you run into an idiot, someone with no sense, she can still have the nerve to come give you trouble, maybe even take you to court!"
The old lady was indeed an old lady—ginger gets spicier with age. Every word was a soft-voiced needle, slapping Lu Xueman’s face over and over, leaving her cheeks flushing red then turning pale. She actually couldn’t get a single word out.
Just then, a voice sounded at the door. It was King Jingyao. "Who’s the old lady talking about taking to court?"
