Chapter 34: Ambiguous Words
Lu Yucai, who was sitting in the living room scribbling in the book, froze instinctively. Since Ni Mengxue’s back was to him, she didn’t see his expression and asked.
"Mister Jiao, you are indeed brave. Looks like you don’t care about your life?"
Ni Mengxue wasn’t playing when she had said that she would find out if he truly had any kidney disease in the first place. She suspected it in the first place because of the novel she had read.
The smartest green tea bitch always uses this kidney stuff to make the main protagonist suffer when, in reality, they are even healthier than that male lead/female lead.
Sure enough, Ying Luo Agency delivered the result within one evening of her placing the order. This Jiao Ji was healthy. With a little more digging, she finally realised what was happening.
Jiao Ji originally loved Ni Mengxue and looked down on Lu Yucai, who was never adopted and looked rough. This was before the apocalypse; at that time, he had a loving family and never had to worry about survival.
After the apocalypse, his family members died, and he had to marry just to survive. When he met Lu Yucai again... he was stunned to find that the ant he looked down upon was married to his goddess.
Out of jealousy, he faked the kidney disease and started to entice Gu Lin to take action. However... Ni Mengxue felt the story wasn’t as simple as it looked.
Anyways... since this man was hell-bent on troubling her husband, she might as well kill him...
"Mengxue, invite the guest in!"
Ni Mengxue blinked and automatically moved, wondering if this green tea bitch had somehow charmed her husband and was a toxic best friend of something.

Lu Yucai watched Jiao Ji enter, and his heart tightened. Previous Ni Mengxue had an ambiguous relationship with this guy... would it be the same this time?
"Yucai! Finally, I met you! How is your leg now? Did any of those military family members come to bully you?" He asked with concern, but Ni Mengxue frowned.
All of these were Lu Yucai’s pain points. Before she could react, though, Jiao Ji gasped and rushed toward. "Mengxue, check on Yucai; his face is looking pale. Maybe his injuries are acting up again?"
Lu Yucai couldn’t move at all; he only felt cold spread throughout his entire body. Would Mengxue this time fall for Jiao Ji’s trick like before?
Previously, Ni Mengxue used to become disgusted and even taunt him. "He deserves it. He caused the deaths of so many!"
Lu Yucai used to feel numb at that time, even after knowing that Ni Mengxue must be having an affair with Jiao Ji. But now... he doesn’t want that to happen.
Before Jiao Ji could touch Ni Mengxue’s sleeves, she moved away from him and crossed the distance between herself and Lu Yucai.
"Yucai, are you okay? What happened, baby? Tell me."
Silence. Jiao Ji’s eyes widened, and anger pooled in them, while Lu Yucai looked pleasantly surprised.
But soon Jiao Ji’s expression turned to normal, and he said softly, "Maybe Brother Yucai thinks that we have something going on and is feeling jealous?"
He looked at Ni Mengxue with a hopeful gaze, and the next second he heard her say softly, "Yucai, you might hate me for this."
Before Lu Yucai or Jiao Ji could realise it, Ni Mengxue waved her hand, and the next second, a wave of ice enveloped Jiao Ji, turning him into an ice sculpture.
The scene that followed left a lasting impression on Yucai. He watched as his wife kicked the ice sculpture and, practically with disgust, threw Jiao Ji out of the house.
Afterward, he was out. Ni Mengxue gave an awkward smile and started to explain clumsily, "Baby... that guy... he is not a good friend... he is... maybe... meet him less? I am not being controlling, but he..."
"Hahaha!" Lu Yucai burst out in laughter. The sight was too amusing for him. Especially when he realised... how much he means to Ni Mengxue.
It was Jiao Ji’s old method. He would say ambiguous words, then look at Ni Mengxue with a hopeful gaze, like he wanted her to accept it, followed by a sorrowful expression and accepting that he was lying.
On the surface, it might seem that he had clarified, and people like the previous Ni Mengxue might even fall for it. But the current Ni Mengxue looks through the pretending at once.
Maybe she misunderstood and thought Jiao Ji was his close friend... so after throwing him out, she started to explain to him clumsily... when she was right all along.
Ni Mengxue stared at Lu Yucai in a daze before breaking out in a smile herself. Seems like Jiao Ji’s arrival wasn’t in vain!
After calming down, he wiped away the tears from the corner of his eyes. "I know he is a green tea bitch, and he isn’t my friend."
"He isn’t? Then why did you let him in?" She asked as she wiped away the sweat from her forehead.
"I..." Lu Yucai couldn’t say a single word. Can he say that just now... when he saw both of them at the door entrance... their bodies were way too close, and he felt jealous?
"Since you don’t want to speak, I won’t force you. Let’s eat!" Ni Mengxue smiled and walked toward the dining table.
Once she finished her lunch, she checked the document and found the details of the laboratories. A quick look helped her finalise the laboratory she was going to work with.
On finishing, she found an extra letter. The letter explained to Mengxue how the prices of items were about to rise because of food scarcity.
Turns out a flood had wiped away an entire base, which had the reserve food. The food was limited to begin with.
Even though a few geniuses had found plants that could be eaten and how to process a bit of mutated animal meat, that was the extent.
