Chapter 60: Modified RV
Then she noticed something unusual. At the far end of the workshop stood a massive metallic door. Unlike everything else, that door was completely sealed.
She tried opening it, but nothing happened.
[Restricted Area. Unlock Conditions: Develop temperature-regulating clothing and require 100,000 merits points.]
Ni Mengxue’s lips twitched. "So there’s another locked area."
She wasn’t surprised. The system had never been generous enough to give her everything at once. "Fine. I’ll unlock it eventually."
She turned around. "Bring the RV here."
[Ding!]
The RV appeared inside the workshop. Ni Mengxue immediately walked around it.
The original RV was already reinforced, but its protection was far from sufficient for the future she envisioned.
She first brought out the diamond metal. This was one of the strongest materials she possessed. As long as she has a lightning ability user in her group, no zombies can cause trouble.
Using the workshop’s equipment, she processed the diamonite into thin but extremely durable plates.
The machine heated the metal until it became malleable, then pressed it into precise shapes.
Ni Mengxue began reinforcing the RV piece by piece. The outer walls received an additional layer of diamonite. The doors were replaced with thicker reinforced panels.
The windows were removed and replaced with multilayered transparent protective material.
She reinforced the roof as well. If a zombie climbed onto the RV, she didn’t want the roof collapsing from its weight.
The wheel wells received additional protection.
The undercarriage was strengthened with thick iron supports, creating a reinforced frame capable of enduring far greater impact.
Ni Mengxue also added iron bars beneath the vehicle to protect the most vulnerable mechanical components.
The front of the RV received a heavy reinforced bumper.
She deliberately designed it with a sloped shape so that if the vehicle crashed into a group of zombies, they would be pushed aside rather than becoming lodged beneath the wheels.
The sides were reinforced with additional metal plating. She even added protective panels around the fuel and water systems.
"Good."
Ni Mengxue stepped back and examined her work. The RV looked considerably heavier now.
It still retained its original black appearance, but the newly installed metal plating gave it an almost fortress-like appearance.
However, she wasn’t finished. She needed several additional materials that she didn’t possess.
Ni Mengxue opened the system store. Most of the materials she required could be purchased there.
The problem was the price. Her system points weren’t enough.
She frowned before looking at her merit points.
"System, exchange one thousand merit points for one hundred thousand system points."
[Ding! Exchange successful.]
Ni Mengxue immediately purchased the remaining materials.
The workshop automatically processed them.
She used reinforced alloy for several structural components, high-strength rubber for the tires, specialized insulation materials for the engine compartment, and several advanced components for the electrical system.
The workshop’s machinery made the process surprisingly easy.
Once the materials were placed inside the processing area, the machines automatically measured, cut, shaped, and assembled them according to the specifications she provided.
Ni Mengxue spent several hours working.
By the time she finished, the RV had undergone an almost complete transformation.
Ni Mengxue wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked at the vehicle.
"Much better."
The RV was still recognisable. But now, it was less like an ordinary vehicle and more like a mobile fortress.
Thinking about the electric fence, she checked the time. It was already 9 pm, and she had run out of her system points too.
’Looks like I need to make it during the trip.’
As she thought so, she exited the space and walked outside. The tense atmosphere, coupled with the bloody smell in the air, made her become alert.
Rushing out, she saw He Yong, one of Lu Yucai’s subordinates, who was bandaging his arms while sitting on the sofa. He was a middle-aged man nearing his 40s, with a tall and gruff look.
Personally, out of all of Lu Yucai’s subordinates, he was the one she least liked. Sure, he was talented, maybe the second most powerful among all of Lu Yucai’s subordinates.
But his eyes... they were strange. Having lived for 1000 years, she had gained insight into various people. He doesn’t seem like a person who would betray his master... but...
"Sorry, did we disturb you?" Lu Yucai’s voice made Ni Mengxue stop her train of thought.
Seeing him dressed in a black combat t-shirt, with a harness vest and black pants, she almost let out a whistle. His perky buttocks, toned pecs, and well-defined abs were faintly visible, making her salivate.
’One day, I will have a feast and eat...’
"Ni Mengxue." He called out, and she closed her eyes in regret. Not again.
"Sigh... have your dinner. Aunt Ruo had asked you to meet her in 20 minutes." Lu Yucai said and walked toward He Yong.
Ni Mengxue nodded and was about to leave when she sensed He Yong’s gaze on her. Arching her eyebrow, she asked with a half smile,
"Is there anything that Mr He wants to say?"
He Yong shook his head and, in a rare moment of vulnerability, said, "I... I was reminded of my daughter. Forgive me, madam."
"Hm... did your daughter get separated from you?" Ni Mengxue asked with interest.
"No... she turned into a zombie." He Yong seemed to have fallen into deep thought.
A glint flashed in her eyes. Eventually, she walked toward the dinner, drank the soup, washed her hands, and put on her own combat suit.
It was a black combat suit that fit snugly against her body without restricting her movements.
The material was lightweight but durable, designed to withstand minor scratches and abrasions. It covered her arms and legs completely, while the high collar protected her neck.
Her purple hair was tied into a ponytail, and she checked herself in the mirror. Her skin had become fairer, while the dark circles under her eyes had vanished too.
Yet she wasn’t satisfied. Compared to her former self... she was still like a toad.
Meeting Ruo Chiwu at the destined spot, she heard the older woman say, "Jiao Ji is dead... Gu Lin might intercept you soon."
