Ni Mengxue crouched down so that they were at eye level and continued calmly.

"But you need to learn something... hating someone is exhausting. You might beat that person, and still hatred won’t leave you. Rather, you should let it go."

Fu Sinan’s lips curled. "You are a hypocrite. I heard that when the Women’s Protection Association tried to harm your husband, you made all of them lose their position. Wasn’t it out of hate?"

Ni Mengxue: "..." What a sharp tongue.

"You do know the role of a big sister with vast knowledge and a gentle personality doesn’t suit you." He continued with a leisurely expression.

Ni Mengxue closed her eyes and repeatedly reminded herself, ’Don’t slap him! He is just a child!’

"Abusing me is equivalent to admitting the fact that you are as bad as those local bullies." Fu Sinan gave a half smile.

Ni Mengxue secretly felt embarrassed and rubbed her eyebrow. "Kid, did you forget your role? You need to act obedient and let me think you have the potential to awaken superpowers."

This time it was Fu Sinan’s turn to be speechless.

Seeing him fall silent, Ni Mengxue laughed. "Since you don’t have anything to say, how about participating in my awakening potion experiments?"

Just a few days before, she had conducted a physical test and realised his blood type was special, and so was his physical constitution.

He was a perfect test subject. Fu Sinan glanced at her. "Will I die?"

"There is a possibility."

"How high?"

Ni Mengxue calmly held up two fingers. "Two percent."

Fu Sinan’s expression didn’t change in the slightest. "If I die, will you take care of my brother?"

Ni Mengxue nodded without hesitation. "Of course."

"Then I’ll do it."

Ni Mengxue smiled. "Good. Pack your things. We’re leaving this place soon."

Fu Sinan remained silent for a moment before suddenly asking, "Can I see my mother one last time?"

Ni Mengxue raised an eyebrow and chuckled. "I never thought you were a sentimental person."

Fu Sinan sneered. "I’m not. I heard that she has lost everything, so I simply wanted to see her suffer with my own eyes."

’See... I knew he had potential to be a villain. ’

"Learned it from you." Fu Sinan replied, and she closed her eyes in dismay. Next time she thinks anything, she will tape her mouth!

Ni Mengxue sighed. "All right. Let’s go."

After wrapping things up at the laboratory, Ni Mengxue was about to leave when Ren Qin hurriedly stopped her. "Wait!"

She turned around. Ren Qin scratched his head awkwardly.

"Can you take me with you?"

Ni Mengxue looked at him with surprise.

This time, she had deliberately called the same batch of people for the experiment. Ren Qin was one of them, and over the course of their interactions, he had bonded with her better than the others.

He was goofy, talkative, and rarely seemed capable of staying quiet for more than a few minutes.

"I don’t have anyone in the base," Ren Qin explained. "I want to follow you. Other than being slightly stronger than an ordinary person, there’s nothing particularly special about me, anyway."

Fu Sinan immediately laughed. "If you already know there’s nothing special about you, why are you pressuring someone else to accept you?"

Ren Qin’s face flushed red. "Who said there’s nothing special about me? I have a unique talent. It might actually be useful to Sister Mengxue."

Ni Mengxue arched an eyebrow. "Oh?"

Ren Qin immediately became serious. "I can sense when someone’s end is approaching."

Fu Sinan frowned. "Is that your superpower?"

Ren Qin shook his head. "No. It’s something my family inherited."

He paused before continuing.

"The Ren family used to be a very powerful family. Unfortunately, only a few of us survived the apocalypse. After that, our instincts became a little muddled, so our predictions aren’t always accurate."

Of course, Ren Qin didn’t mention the more embarrassing part. His family’s ability had never truly been useful.

For generations, the Ren family had been highly valued by powerful factions because of this strange ability.

But there was one fatal problem.

Whenever they sensed that someone’s death was approaching, no matter how hard they tried to prevent it, that person would eventually die.

In other words, they could see death coming, but they couldn’t stop it.

"If you know someone’s death is approaching, can you actually change their fate?"

Fu Sinan saw through his deception.

Ren Qin’s expression stiffened. Silence descended.

"Useless. You might say that knowing someone’s ending is useful, but what’s the point if you can’t change it?"

Ni Mengxue looked at Ren Qin. "Has there ever been a case where your family successfully diverted someone’s impending death?"

Ren Qin didn’t answer. There had never been one.

Every single person whose death they had foreseen had eventually died, despite all their efforts.

That was precisely why the Ren family’s once-glorious reputation had gradually become meaningless after the apocalypse.

Ni Mengxue understood the answer from his silence. She suddenly chuckled. "You know what? Come with us."

Ren Qin’s eyes widened. "Really?"

"Really."

She glanced at Fu Sinan. "Sinan, show him the way to where he can live."

Fu Sinan gave Ni Mengxue a sideways look.

His expression seemed to say, ’Your taste in people is getting worse.’

Ni Mengxue ignored him and led the two of them toward Feng Lian’s residence.

When they arrived, Fu Sinan calmly walked toward the shanty house.

Feng Lian looked at the shabby surroundings and sighed.

She had been raised in luxury and had once enjoyed a life far beyond what ordinary people could imagine.

Now, she was living in a cramped shanty house surrounded by foul smells, constant arguments, and noisy neighbours.

Just looking at the place was enough to make her head ache.

Feng Lian was Fu Sinan’s mother. Her husband was Lu Yucai’s orphanage director.

Ni Mengxue decided that she would tell Lu Yucai about this tonight.

If he wanted to take revenge after learning the truth, she would leave that matter to him.
