Chapter 53: Macy
"Mengxue... let’s do it when we have a condom." Lu Yucai’s voice sounded hoarse, as if he were trying to restrain himself.
"Haha, are you worried that I am not ready for pregnancy? I want a child, Yucai." Ni Mengxue relaxed and smooched him. She couldn’t even explain how happy she would feel if she were pregnant with his child.

"No." Lu Yucai shook his head firmly. "You can’t get pregnant. Mengxue, apocalypse is full of dangers. We need to leave this base and travel; we don’t even have a proper destination... It’s too dangerous if you get pregnant now."
What he didn’t mention was that he was worried that she would miscarry or he wouldn’t be able to protect her if she were in danger. He was even more worried about childbirth.

Ni Mengxue froze before arguing back, "I will protect my child. I am capable of doing it. Yucai... if we have a child... we would never have to worry about being alone."
Lu Yucai shook his head and said with a serious expression, "We can plan for a child, but let’s establish ourselves on some good base."
Ni Mengxue became flustered. "No. What if something happens to either of us? Let’s not waste our time, okay? Yucai, I am capable to the point; no one in this apocalypse can cause us any harm."
"Mengxue." Lu Yucai pulled away and looked at her sternly. "No. I will ask my people to..."
"No!" Ni Mengxue shouted, a bit too desperately, her eyes burning with anger. But when she saw Lu Yucai’s stunned expression, remorse filled her every cell.
She slowly backed away from him and lowered her head. "I... I remember some work... I will leave first."

Once back in her room, Ni Mengxue sat on her bed with a dazed expression. Even the cedarwood fragrance lingering on her clothes couldn’t calm her.
Deciding to calm her mind, she left a note to Lu Yucai about her going to the laboratory and left. Once in Cang Laboratory, her point of contact became just Herb and Ruo Chiwu.

Her hard work paid off, and she ended up making a healing potion. As for the fire ability potion, its side effect was huge, so she put a stop to her experimentation.
As for Lu Yucai, she made sure that he had enough to spend and had someone to look after him. Her heart was filled with disappointment when he didn’t try to reach out to her.
Placing her hand on her chest, she was suddenly reminded of the time on Balix Planet. She had gone there as a volunteer to kill the uprising mutated plants.
Many humans were running for their lives, while some were crying because they had lost their loved ones. The scene wasn’t heartbreaking to her... she just felt it was absurd.
She hated all of them... all humans... these humans had voted to execute her, Bo Xinli... so she wished all of them would die. However, one couple caught her attention.
Macy and Rex. Ordinary yet full of love. While Macy cried because she had lost her pet, Rex stayed beside her. Their 7-year-old daughter, Trisha, patted her back and said softly, "Mother... everything will be alright! Don’t worry..."
Later on, an earthquake occurred, and by the time Ni Mengxue finished her shift, she saw Macy and Trisha crying. Rex had died. It wasn’t surprising... both of them were ordinary people.
