Chapter 360 - 358:Abyssal Storms
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
"CATHARK!!!!!!"
A desperate scream echoed through the chaotic atmosphere as a group of blue skinned individuals trudged their way through a deadly storm.
"QUICK! Help him!!" A tall and stunning blue skinned woman ordered as the group scrambled to save their companion.
"Thank... thank you, Princess." The man thanked profusely.
"Nevermind that." The woman waved away his concerns as she held her sword tightly.
Her gaze solemn as she looked around, at the deadly storms they’d found themselves trapped in.
"I wanted to avoid this. That’s why I suggested we left earlier, who would’ve thought..." her words drifted into the crackling storms around them.
"Sister.." a soft voice came from behind her as she turned.
"Lysera. How are things looking?" The woman asked.
"Not good. The readings are showing abysmal levels. If we’re stuck here for any longer than we are...."
"Haaa..." woman let out a long breath.
"Sister. Why don’t we just turn around. The storms aren’t moving. We should be able to retreat safely, because I’m afraid once the storms become active...." Lysera’s words trailed off.
She didn’t need to finish. Her sister was more informed than even herself, so she knew what would happen once the abyssal storms became active, but..
"We can’t.." she shook her head gently.
"Why?"
"We won’t be able to make it in time. The storms will reach us before we ever get far enough."
WOOOSH!!
"Watch out!"
A flying piece of earth flew straight for the girls as the elder one swung her sword.
Splitting it cleanly in two.
"The abyss’s storms are what occur when the chaotic laws of the abyss try to rewrite themselves into a different cycle. It’s not just some simple phenomenon. It’s an amalgamation of a myriad laws clashing and refusing to align."
The two trudged on, with their cohorts behind them, as the elder sister continued..
"When one cycle ends, the storm washes across every layer of the abyss at once. Only when the last law settles does the new cycle begin. And that is only possible because with the law of time in the mix, it can happen everywhere and nowhere at the same time. What that means is, once the storms become active, we’re dead. So we can only hope to find a cluster and seek shelter." Her face had already turned grim by this point.
"But sister... how likely are we to find a cluster?"
"..."
Silence was all the reply she received.
Lysera looked up, at the churning skies. The swirling twisters that folded and twisted the reality around them.
A white haired figure with calm and confident golden eyes couldn’t help flash past her thoughts as she watched the world devolve into disorder.
"I wonder what he’s doing?"
RUUUUMMMBBLEEEEE!!!!!
The world suddenly shook.
"LYSERA!!" The elder sister at the front suddenly screamed out in terror.
CRACK!
"Ehh?" Confusion colored Lysera’s face as the ground opened up beneath her, her figure plummeting into a wide chasm.
Grab!
A slender arm grabbed her and pulled her out before she could disappear into the pit.
"Nyssara!" Hugging her sister for dear life, they both retreated to their group.
"Princess." A man clutching a still bleeding stump, approached. His pale face had gone sheet white from terror.
"I know." Nyssara replied. Not bothering to turn around as her grip tightened on her sister’s hand.
"The storms... they’re active."
...
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!"
"Damn it! Do all abyss walkers scream like little bitches when flying?" I couldn’t help complaining.
"My lord. You cannot blame the weak for their low courage." Shulvan, this bastard thought it was the right time to play it cool.
"Ehh? That so? But I remember clearly, you screaming like a little bitch not too long ago." I sneered.
"Like I said, my lord. The weak have low courage. I was weak then. It was only natural." He replied without batting an eye.
Slap!
"Ahhhh!!! Why??"
"You’re sounding a bit too cool for my liking. Felt like you needed a resetting." I sneered, trying not to be jealous of the way this bastard was traversing the abyss.
Because tell me why this fucker was literally surfing on the essence of entropy saturating the atmosphere.
"I really don’t like the fact that I made you this cool, you know that right?" I couldn’t help it.
"Forgive me, my lord. I have upset you."
"This bastard..."
RUMMMMMBLEEEEEEEE!!!
The entire abyss suddenly shook violently.
"It’s happening!!" The screaming old fuck I was lugging around finally shut up.
"What’s happening?"
"The storms...
.... They’re active."
I raised my head and then I saw... them.
"Hmm?" Twisters of unimaginable proportions.
They were so tall the dwarfed the concept of height.
The felt close enough to touch, yet far distant enough for contact to be an impossibility.
Space at one point existed. And at another, did not.
But what was most jarring was the fact that the storm felt like one, yet many.
It looked like one storm.
Yet it also looked like thousands.
As though countless versions of the same storm existed in different timelines...
...all overlapping into a single impossible phenomenon.
It was.. maddening.
"Heh! Alright. Want to play games?" I flew straight toward the storm that looked "closer" to me.
activating on thought as I looked past the carnage. Past the chaos. And into the truth.
And what I saw...
"Beautiful....."
[DING!!!]
[You have glimpsed a nexus of creation....]
[Your understanding of {?????}<@&#%*€£> has increased...
[Your understanding of {?????}<@&#%*€£> has increased...
[Your understanding of {?????}<@&#%*€£> has increased...
......
Looking at the flood of notifications blinding my screen, I couldn’t help being intrigued.
This was the second time I was receiving notifications about glimpsing a Nexus of Creation and getting understanding of something I still couldn’t begin to make heads or tails of.
RUUUUUMBLLEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
The world glitched violently as a storm manifested right beside. No warning. It just happened. Like it had always been there.
"My lord... let me." I wasn’t even allowed time to act before shulvan appeared right beside me, bladeless hilt in hand as he swung casually.
ZING!
A single line was carved through the storm and those ahead of it as a path was forcefully carved through.
"Worry not, my lord. I shall handle the distractions." He positioned himself by my side, taking charge of the abyss walker I’d been lugging around.
"Alright then, shulvan. I’ll leave it to you.." giving him a nod of approval. I conjured a mat from the essence of entropy.
Of course I did. You thought I’d let only this bastard look cool?
Sitting cross legged, I let my consciousness delve deeper into the unceasing storms around me.
......
"Alright, old man. Let’s get the lord to that city without any distractions." Sulvan ordered as he held corvak by the scruff of his neck.
"This... will this be alright? Aren’t you treating these storms too lightly?" Corvak asked.
"Heh! These storms should be honored they’re allowed to pave the way for my lord’s entrance. Now be quiet." Saying so, he held his blade as he forged on ahead.
No storm was able to survive a single slash.
It didn’t matter what laws composed the storm. A single swing of his bladeless sword and they were scattered. With Dante’s comprehension increasing with each scattered and gathered storm.
"Hey!! Down there... there’s people in danger. They’re dying!!!" Corvak suddenly exclaimed.
"Hmm?" Sulvan looked down, spotting a group of blue skinned Individuals trapped between two storms.
The entire group looked a few moments from being completely wiped out. Their protective gears almost entirely worn out.
"I have no qualms with strangers." Sulvan dismissed their troubles as he prepared to make headway.
"They’re on our path."
"Clear it."
Dante’s calm voice drifted over.
He hadn’t turned. Hadn’t taken his eyes from the storms. He had merely given an order. And..
"Thy will be done my lord." Sulvan executed them flawlessly.
His sword swung out, cleaving the two storms and clearing the path as the group continued on their way, not sparing so much as a glance at the group below as they vanished. Moving too fast for anyone to catch, or at least almost anyone.
......
Lysera and her sister along with their group had found themselves stuck between two terrifying storms.
Their protective equipment almost completely destroyed.
"Sister!! We’re not going to make it." Lysera cried out.
"Don’t worry. Even if I have to perish here. I shall make sure you survive." Nyssara stood before her sister, face grim as the storms tore their way through.
Yet, just as all hope seemed lost...
SHIIINGG!!!
A single, devastating blade strike cleaved through the two storms, tearing them apart like they were nothing.
The skies of the abyss became as clear as the abyss skies were clear.
The two sisters looked up. Towards the direction the attack had come from, just in time for them to catch the disappearing silhouette of a man seated cross legged on a mat of something that made their senses go crazy.
Lysera’s eyes widened in recognition.
"That face..."
The man never looked down.
He never acknowledged them.
Seated upon that strange floating platform, his eyes remained fixed upon the storms themselves, as though the terrifying phenomenon surrounding them deserved more of his attention than anything else.
In the next instant...
...he was gone..
"Benefactor?"
