Sebastian’s POV

Emilia’s eyes went wide. "What?"

"Oh, and by the way," I added, enjoying her shocked expression, "you already drank a bowl this morning, didn’t you?"

Emilia’s face went from pink to red to a deep crimson. "I... that’s... you’re impossible!"

"Sometimes you’re surprisingly sharp. And sometimes you’re surprisingly clueless."

"How was I supposed to know your mother would give me something like that?" she stammered, her cheeks flushed.

"Really? You didn’t learn your lesson from last night?"

She blinked. "What happened last night?"

I raised an eyebrow. "Don’t tell me that pill you took wasn’t also from my mother."

"I didn’t take any pill," she said quickly, turning away.

"Emilia," I said, unable to keep the amusement out of my voice. "Last night, who was the one begging me to..."

"Okay, STOP." She lunged across the desk to cover my mouth with her hand, her face completely red now. "The walls have ears, you impossible man. Can you please let me keep some dignity?"

Her hand was soft against my lips, and her scent was addicting this close. I pulled her hand away but kept hold of it.

"So you admit it then?"

"It’s in the past," she said, trying to tug her hand free. "Why do you keep bringing it up?"

She grabbed the thermos with her other hand. "Fine. If you don’t want it, I’ll take it back to your mother and tell her you refused her gift."

"Wait." I pointed to my computer. "I’ll drink it after I finish this work."

She stared at me. "I thought you didn’t want to?"

"For the effort you made bringing it all the way here, I guess I can drink it," I said. "Besides, it won’t do any harm."

"I thought you didn’t want children?"

I studied her face. "Who told you I didn’t want children?"

She glanced at the door, then lowered her voice. "Well, you always... you know... pulled out before you finished, right?"

I laughed as I stood up, wrapping my arm around her waist, and gently nipped at her ear.

"That’s because I didn’t want you pregnant too soon, love," I murmured. "Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to be as... wild as we were last night."

Her ear turned bright red, and she pushed against my chest. "You’re such a pervert. Here I thought you were this cold, professional Alpha, but you’re actually just a horny wolf in expensive suits."

"Speaking of last night," I continued, "someone was screaming my name loud enough for the whole pack house to..."

"ENOUGH." She pinched my side, hard. "Stop talking about that!"

"Wait for me a bit," I told her, releasing her unwillingly. "I need to finish reviewing these documents."

I returned to my desk and dove back into work.

After a few minutes of silence, she spoke up. "Are you working on the Florida holiday resort development?"

I looked up. "Yes. Why?"

"Who are you planning to give the project to?"

I set down my pen, studying her carefully. Her tone was casual, but I could sense the tension in her shoulders. "Don’t tell me you want me to give this project to Henry Taylor."

She hesitated, twisting her fingers together. "If... if it’s possible, I hope you can do me this favor."

This caught me off guard.

This was unexpected. From everything I knew, Emilia had every reason to hate her father.

"Since this is the first time you’ve asked me for anything," I said slowly, "I’ll give the construction rights to your father’s company." I paused. "But I have to ask... don’t you hate Henry? Why help him?"

"I..." She looked conflicted, biting her lower lip. "I’ll explain it to you later. Just... please don’t ask right now."

Whatever her reasons, they mattered to her. She’d tell me when she was ready.

"All right," I agreed.

I picked up the thermos and drank the whole bowl of soup in one go, grimacing at the taste. "The mighty Sebastian Simons, Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, reduced to drinking fertility soup because his Luna asked nicely. My reputation would be ruined if anyone found out."

She leaned over and kissed my cheek.

"Thank you, dear," she said softly. "I promise I’ll make it up to you."

She grabbed the empty thermos and bounced out of my office, leaving me staring after her.

The wounds in my heart were starting to heal, little by little.
