Chapter 83: THE HISTORY OF THE LYCAN
Zade had all the patience in the world to stay with his mate like that, held her close to him, and felt her pain as he let her drench his shirt with her tears.
However, crying was proven to take a lot of energy, because when Seara had calmed down slightly, her stomach was grumbling.
"Crying is a little bit tiring," Seara said sheepishly, and Zade laughed at that statement.
"Good, that’s why you shouldn’t do that often without filling your stomach." He kissed her head and mind-linked the omegas to bring the food inside.
The two omegas who came into the room were slightly older than Maisie and Caylin. They smiled at Seara and nodded at her politely, to which she replied with the same gesture.
After they put everything on the table, they left, leaving the two of them alone.
"There is a lot of food," Seara noticed. They wouldn’t be able to finish it all. "Will Zephyr come to eat with us?"
"No," Zade replied quickly. "You don’t like to eat alone with me?"
"No. I like it. I love it," Seara said in panic; she didn’t want Zade to misunderstand her. "It is just, he had been having meals with us so often that I thought he would come too."
"That’s a bad habit to think that way." Zade then cut the meat into small pieces for her. "Eat more."
"But really, I like eating with you. It is peaceful..." Seara grinned.
She liked to have Zephyr around, but it meant she wouldn’t have her peace. Therefore, sometimes she would want to eat peacefully too.
"I know. But at dinner, I think it will not be as peaceful."
Zephyr wouldn’t be there, but Jeremy would attend, and it was safe to say that he was like the carbon copy of the royal gamma, only in the younger version.
"Can you tell me more about them?" Seara asked curiously as she ate her food. A year ago, she wouldn’t think of having this kind of food for herself. Not even in her dream. She didn’t remember the last time she was dreaming.
"Caspian is Ace’s father; he is half Lycan. That’s why he is an immortal. He is also the eldest member of the Lycan race."
"Older than you?"
"Older than me."
Seara leaned over. She had been curious about this. "How old are you?"
Hearing the question, Zade smirked. "Old enough."
"Like two hundred years old?" Seara widened her eyes.
"Two hundred years old can be considered young, Love. Even Zephyr is close to three hundred, and he still acts like a kid sometimes."
This revelation shocked Seara. She knew that the Lycans were immortal, and some half-breeds, who had strong Lycan blood in them, could be immortal too.
However, the Lycan race is extremely rare, particularly when it came to purebloods like Zade and the other two Lycan kings.
Seara didn’t know much about the Lycans; she had only learned about the basic information that every shifter already knew about them.
Even so, despite the dwindling number of Lycans in this realm, they occupied the highest tier of the shifter hierarchy. Their influence reached both the shifter and human worlds, and they had formed alliances with the largest and most powerful packs of werewolves, who remained loyal to them.
"I think Zephyr is around two hundred seventy." Zade smiled when he saw the look on Seara’s face.
"What about you?"
"More than seven hundred, if I am not mistaken. I don’t count it anymore."
"Seven hundred?" Seara widened her eyes in shock. "And Ace?"
"He is a hundred years younger than me."
Seara needed some time to process this information. She stared at Zade in disbelief and opened her mouth, but no word came out.
"Why? Am I too old for you?"
Of course. No one had a seven-hundred-year age gap. Even so, Zade still looked as if he were in his late twenties.
His beautiful electric blue eyes were so captivating, even though his whole appearance was actually breathtaking; with full lips and a sharp jaw and a pointed nose, it felt like God had created him personally.
The Lycan also aged more slowly the moment they reached their teenage years; that’s why they were so young, though centuries had passed.
"Ace’s biological mother was a werewolf, so she died of old age," Zade said and continued telling her the story.
When Seara became too focused on what he was saying and stopped eating, Zade picked up the fork and fed her instead. He did it so naturally that anyone who knew him would be astonished by how much he was talking.
Zade was not a storyteller. He would keep conversations short and precise. He wouldn’t bother to engage in small talk or answer questions that didn’t concern him.
Yet, Seara was an exception. His mate would always be an exception.
The Lycan would talk as much as his mate wanted; he would tell her the story from seven hundred years ago if she really wanted to know.
"As Ace inherited the Lycan blood from his father, he is an immortal too, though he took the wolf form like his mother. Zephyr is also the same, but his parents died in a war two hundred years ago when he was still young. I took him in."
Seara was fascinated with the story and couldn’t help but ask a few questions, which Zade answered patiently to sate her curiosity.
"Twenty-five years ago, Caspian found a second chance mate, Leia. She came from a werewolf family, too. And they have been together since then. And about twenty-two years ago, she gave birth to a daughter. It was a miracle for a Lycan to have a daughter, since most of the time the she-shifter would give birth to boys. Unfortunately, their baby died during labor."
And finally, they adopted Jeremy to cope with their loss. They didn’t adopt a girl, since they wanted to keep the memory of their daughter.
