Chapter 104: YOU ARE ADORABLE
"Daven is dead," Zephyr said. He had just received the news and confirmed it before he relayed the information to Zade. "He was found in a hotel in this city. No CCTV captured, and the cause of death was a heart attack."
"Heart attack?" Ace raised his brows. "I have never heard a shifter have a heart attack."
"Yeah, me too. I think the world surprises me every day, keeping us on our toes with a discovery," Zephyr replied as he sat down next to Ace and stretched out his body. He was extremely tired after running around to find more clues about this death, only to come up empty-handed.
"There is someone else behind it. Because there is no way that there are no CCTV captures of him, and they are broken at the same time." Ace glanced at Zade. "Do you think this is them?"
"It is them," Zade said without a trace of doubt. He was sitting behind his mahogany table, deep in thought. What timing... when he found his mate just as the demon made its move.
"But what is he doing in the capital city? He is crippled, and no one knew he left the pack." Zephyr scratched his chin. "I have been looking into the adoption of Seara too, but they didn’t adopt her from an orphanage. It is mentioned in Seara’s document that she was a distant relative from Tansy’s side, the former gamma’s mate. There is no other record about it."
"Find out more about it," Zade said.
"Are you still taking her to the annual party? Two days from now?" Ace asked. He had heard what happened, and he had been advising Zade not to do it; he would put Seara in the spotlight.
The three alphas were unhappy with the prospect of Zade having a runt as his mate. It was well known that a runt was like a third-class shifter. They didn’t consider her a shifter either, and their biggest pet peeve was that Seara was not as strong as Zade.
It was rare to have a runt in the family, but if they had one, based on the old tradition, they would indeed kill it.
They believed that a shifter who was born without a wolf spirit was not blessed by the Moon Goddess.
The thing was that Seara was born with one; she lost it because she was poisoned. But of course, not all people would see it that way; some of them insisted it was the same thing no matter how you lost your wolf spirit. Just the fact that you didn’t have one was what mattered.
"She will come if she wants to," Zade said.
He then left the main building and went to the bungalow, where he found Seara was not there, and when he asked the omegas, they said Seara insisted on taking a walk alone.
She became quieter after what happened, and Zade didn’t push the matter. He accompanied her silently and walked with her.
Seara spent more of her time writing in her journal. He wondered what she was writing there.
And now, he picked up her scent and shifted into his beast form to find his mate was in the forest, sitting alone with Little Paw, one of Reaper’s pups. It was no longer a small pup; instead, this pup had outgrown the other two.
It had black fur like Reaper, but smaller than its father.
"What are you doing here, Love?" Zade shifted back into his human form and approached Seara slowly. He crouched down next to her while Little Paw was napping on her lap.
"Thinking," Seara said.
"What are you thinking about?" Zade stared at her troubled expression.
For a long moment, Seara didn’t answer his question, and Zade didn’t push her. He sat quietly with her as he used to do.
"Zade, don’t you wish to have a normal mate? Someone who can stand side by side with you?" Seara lifted her head. "Someone who is not constantly reminded that she is not crazy? Someone who doesn’t see things that are not there."
Zade thought about it for a while; he didn’t give her a direct answer that sounded like a default reply, because Seara expected that from him.
"You know what, Seara? I never wished for anything before I met you. I can’t even recall the last time I prayed for something. After living as an immortal for so many centuries, everything around you begins to lose its value."
Zade lay down on the grass and used his arms as a pillow behind his head. The leaves of the tree canopy provided them with shade from the afternoon sunlight filtering through the gaps.
"Then you are here, and it feels like all of my unspoken wishes come true. And my life finds its value again." Zade’s voice softened. "Souls don’t meet by accident, Seara."
Zade smiled softly when Seara stared at him. She was listening, and the wild wolf on her lap woke up and scurried away when he saw Zade was there.
"If you ask me whether I wish for someone else, then I will say no, because I didn’t have any wish before I met you. It is because of you that I have so many wishes again."
Seara lowered her eyes; she pressed her lips tightly. "You sacrificed so much for me; it doesn’t feel fair when I gave you nothing but problems."
"Trust me, Zephyr has given me more headaches than you can imagine, and he is an immortal too; my headache will continue for the rest of our eternity. You are an angel compared to him."
Seara couldn’t help but chuckle when she heard that.
"And it is not a sacrifice if I am doing it willingly. Moreover, I don’t feel like I have sacrificed anything for you. Can you give me an example?"
Seara thought about it. "You have to live in that small house instead of the main building."
Hearing that, Zade smiled helplessly. "You are adorable."
