Chapter 86: THE ROYAL BETA’S FAMILY (2)
Seara remembered when she was seven and showed her drawing to her adoptive mother; her reaction was lukewarm, and the next day she found it in the trash bin because she said her drawing was not that good and it was basically trash.
And after that, whatever things that Seara proudly showed to her adoptive parents would end up in the trash bin the next day.
But here Jeremy’s crafts were on full display, and Leia talked about each of them proudly.
How nice it was...
"Mom, stop it; that’s embarrassing," Jeremy complained as he walked behind them. "Mom, you make her uncomfortable." Jeremy nodded at Seara.
"No, I am fine. I like to hear the story," Seara immediately said. Leia was being nice with her; she didn’t want to let her down. "But where is Ace?"
"Ace is handling some business; he will join us later." Leia then threw a sharp glare at Zade. "Someone has given him a lot of orders lately."
"I am sorry," Seara said in a small voice; the word slipped from her mouth without her mind processing it.
Ace was busy because she kept Zade by her side; therefore, all the assignments had to be shared between Ace and Zephyr.
She felt as if she had to be blamed for it.
"Oh, don’t be silly, honey. He has been working Ace out for so many years, even before he met you. At the very least, with you here, he will not suddenly disappear."
"Disappear?" Seara tilted her head. She had learned a lot of things about Zade’s family now. Though they were not related by blood to Zade, they were the closest thing he could call family.
"Yes. Caspian informed me that Zade would often disappear for several years, leaving behind all the company matters to Ace and the territory matters to Zephyr. This is not something new, so don’t feel sorry about it."
Currently, they were already in the dining room, and Leia was busy putting food onto Seara’s plate and Jeremy’s. She was serious when she said she wanted Seara to taste all of the food that she cooked.
The thing was, at least there were thirteen different foods on the table.
"This Lycan over here is a little bit irresponsible sometimes," Leia said openly; she didn’t seem to be scared of Zade.
On the other hand, Seara grimaced. She glanced at Zade, afraid that he would be enraged by the disrespect, but when she looked at him, he was staring at her, as if he didn’t hear what Leia said.
"You need to eat more," Zade said, putting more food onto her already overflowing plate.
And not long after, Ace came, and Leia told him to wash his hands and join the table. She cut him off when he wanted to talk about the company.
"I don’t want to hear the company problem at my table," Leia said sternly, and Seara found it so funny because Ace obliged.
To think that Ace was way older than Leia made it even more bizarre, but then when she felt relaxed being with them, Seara found she liked having dinner with them.
It was so lively; it was so different from what she remembered.
Back in the Blackthorne Pack, no one talked during dinner. They would sit together and eat quietly. Her adoptive father always said that it was rude to talk during dinner, and because they were a high-ranking family in the pack, they should follow the etiquette.
But here Seara was, having dinner with the royal beta family of the Lycans, and they didn’t apply the same rule.
Leia and Jeremy made the situation so lively with their banter, while Ace and Caspian would join in to tease Jeremy here and there.
"I don’t like that. Stop giving me carrots, Mom; you know that I don’t like it." Jeremy was exasperated with his mother.
"It’s good for you, little bro. Carrots can detoxify whatever dirty things you eat out there." Ace encouraged Leia to give Jeremy more.
"No, I don’t like carrots. If I ate that, I wouldn’t be just detoxified; I might just achieve enlightenment." Jeremy glared at Ace. "What do you mean I ate a dirty thing? Do you think I will eat soil out there?"
Seara giggled at their banter, but Jeremy grumbled at her.
"What? Don’t laugh. Try it yourself."
Ace smacked his brother on the head. "Do you think she had never eaten carrots? Don’t be dramatic."
"Don’t hit your brother’s head, Ace."
"He should be grateful I don’t give an idea to give him carrot juice, Leia."
"Carrot juice?" Leia seemed to consider it, and Jeremy widened his eyes in shock.
"Mom!" He looked panicked when he saw his mother was considering the possibility of making it. "Don’t give her an idea, Ace!"
Beside her, Zade squeezed her hand under the table. "Are you okay?" He asked in a whispery tone.
They had agreed before that if Seara scratched his palm, it meant she wanted to leave, and the dinner was too much for her.
But she was fine. She didn’t want to leave. "I am okay." She smiled at Zade reassuringly.
Seara was a little bit startled when Jeremy grumbled at her; she thought she had annoyed him, but after dinner, he invited her to play a game.
"I heard you are good at playing games. Come; play with me. Let’s make a bet." Jeremy waved his hand to Seara for her to take her phone out so they could play.
Zade had told her that Zephyr couldn’t join the dinner because he sent him somewhere to do something; he didn’t elaborate on what that was, but she didn’t want to pry into his matter either.
Currently, they were in the living room, while Leia was preparing dessert for them.
However, before Seara and Jeremy started playing, from afar they could hear a loud explosion. Something had exploded somewhere in the residence.
"What was that?!" Ace stood up quickly.
