Chapter 44: BLOOD ON OUR HAND

"What are you doing, Love?" Zade called Seara as he held a pair of scissors and a photo. He found a few photo albums, but he only had three pictures of his mate when she was little.

One picture was when she was around five years old, the other was when she was around ten, and the last one was when she was an early teenager—Zade couldn’t tell, probably twelve or thirteen.

All of the pictures were taken when she was not supposed to be in the camera. She got photographed because she happened to be there.

Therefore, none of the pictures showed her looking at the camera.

"I am playing with Little Paw," Seara said, and then started to tell Zade about what happened today. She had a session with Jane, and then Reaper brought his mate and their pups, as well as the mysterious man with red eyes.

"What did you say?" Zade stopped cutting out little Seara from the picture. He had gotten two, and this was the last one.

Dirt and dust covered Zade’s shirt when he opened the boxes here, looking for any shred of Seara’s early years of life—the time when he was not part of her life.

Unfortunately, there was nothing much that he could find. It almost felt as if she had never existed in this house.

"What man?" Zade asked. He cut out the last picture of Seara, who was eating a cake in the background, when Brigid was having a birthday party. Seara was wearing a worn-out yellow dress in the picture.

"Uhm. A man with red eyes. I don’t know... He was scary." Seara ran her fingers against Little Paw’s soft fur and felt elated. Currently, she was sitting on the sofa with Reaper and his mate lying on the floor near her.

"What did he do to you?"

"Nothing. He only stared at me, and then poof—he disappeared."

Zade furrowed his brows as he put the three pictures of Seara into his wallet and then threw away the remains of the picture that he had cut off.

After that, Zade listened to Seara’s rambling about the wolves. Apparently, Reaper had brought his entire family to meet with Seara.

This fact confused Zade as well, since it didn’t sound like the wild wolf he had raised. It sounded like a pet dog instead. He was going to see it when he returned.

But then, in the middle of his conversation with his mate, Zade sensed the presence of another Lycan. He knew Asher was here even before he stood at the door, leaning his body against the door frame and staring at him.

However, Zade didn’t end the phone call. He was not going to end it unless Seara cut the call first, so it took another twenty minutes before Zade finally recognized the other Lycan king.

Asher—the Lycan king from the Ravencourt Kingdom. The people in this pack didn’t disappoint him, since they had called their king over.

Ever since Zade destroyed the Ironclad Pack a hundred years ago, which was one of the werewolf packs under the territory of the Ravencourt Kingdom, Asher had been holding a grudge, and it had been a hundred years since the last time they met.

And now, he was here.

Zade didn’t even need to seek him in his dominion.

"What a way to call me over, Zade. Are you going to destroy this pack too? I swear, I am going to kill you this time."

"Cute," Zade said, which made Asher raise his brows because that was not a word that Zade would use in any form of situation or conversation.

Actually, it was a slip of the tongue, since Seara said the word over and over again in their earlier conversation.

But Zade acted as if nothing had happened. "You need to appoint another alpha for this pack, and I will take three women from it."

If the three of them thought that killing their wolf spirit would be the end of it, they were completely mistaken. That was just the beginning.

"After a century, you came to cause trouble, and now you are demanding something from me? Not even a single ’thank you.’"

"I do you a favor by not destroying another pack in your territory."

"You are as arrogant as ever, Zade." Asher tilted his head, and he stared at the other Lycan with interest. "I heard what happened. So, it’s true, you found your destined mate."

Asher had the same electric blue eyes and black curly hair. He looked like someone who disdained everything that he saw, and he had seen so many things in his long life.

"Are you going to kill those people who had wronged your mate?" Asher waited, but Zade didn’t seem interested in answering the question. "Don’t soak your hands with more blood. You might lose your precious time with your mate. It will be interesting years for you until she withers away."

Zade ignored that, but he fished out something from his pocket and threw it at Asher. The other Lycan caught it and frowned when he saw what that was.

"Being born into our world means being born with blood on our hands." Zade stood up from Seara’s small bed. "Be ready; a hundred years have passed."

Violence was indeed in their world, and they knew it because it was part of their life.

"You need to warn Altair too."

"He already knew."

And after that, Zade left the room. Even when a hundred years had passed since the last time they saw each other, it felt as if they had just met yesterday, since time for them was meaningless.

The next day, Zade returned to Wvern City.

Brigid, Enid, and Eudora were taken to his dominion as well. They had to taste how it felt to be locked away for years, but this time, no one would come to save them. Let them rot in the dungeon.

Once Zade entered the bungalow, the first thing he did was look for his mate.
