Chapter 201: FORGIVE AND FORGET
Seara balled her fists tightly. In a way, Silas was right; there were a lot of more important things that they needed to address, especially as the military was closing in on this territory.
Things had escalated rapidly. It was less than a year, and everything that the shifters had built had gone down the drain.
They were being chased down now and massacred left and right; therefore, for Seara to bring up an old grudge sounded petty.
But...
"Whether I am holding a grudge or not, it is not for you to decide. Even if I am, putting aside the problem doesn’t have any effect on the current situation." Seara sat down; she met Silas in the eyes when she spoke again. "Acting as if everything is fine between us will not automatically solve the current problem."
Silas looked uncomfortable; he avoided Seara’s eyes. It was so rare for him to do that, since he could be very arrogant sometimes, and as the beta now, he held more authority.
"I am sorry for what you have gone through."

Sorry...
They were only sorry for what happened to her, but would that be enough to offset everything?
"What do you want, Silas? If there is nothing else you want to say, leave the room." Seara was glad that she was no longer a delusional mess like when Zade found her the first time; therefore, she could face Silas and the people from her past right now.
Otherwise, she would have faced significant trouble and experienced panic attacks every few minutes at the thought of going back here and having to interact with them again.
"I only want to make sure that you are fine."
Seara didn’t know what had gotten into her when she suddenly laughed out loud, as though Silas just told her the funniest story ever.
"I am alive. Now, get out." Seara wiped her tears while still chuckling. "Or do you want to be here to finish the job?"
Hearing that, Silas blanched. "Seara, don’t joke about that."
"I am not joking." Seara stopped laughing now, and the split-second change of her expression was rather scary, to say the least. "Just because you didn’t have a say in throwing me into the dungeon for years, it doesn’t mean you are not responsible for that." Seara waved her hand. "Forget about it. You didn’t even do anything when your precious sister bullied me, knowing my hands were tied to stand up for myself."
At that time, she couldn’t fight back or stand up for herself in fear of being kicked out of the house. She had no one and nowhere to go.
Javen and Tansy loved to remind her of this fact whenever she tried to defend herself, while Brigid would snicker with delight in the background, and Silas remained silent.
"Leave, Silas." Seara pressed the button next to her bed, and a nurse came to ask if she needed something. "I want him to be removed from the room."
The nurse looked conflicted because Silas was the beta of the Blackthorne Pack. He held a prestigious status, and Seara could see the conflict in her eyes.
"I am King Zade’s mate, and since he is not here, should I complain to King Asher for this inconvenience?" Zade had told her to use his name if she had to, and even though he was not here, his name alone was enough to make the nurse take some action.
"I am sorry, Beta Silas, but she needs to get some rest. Her recovery will take longer if she doesn’t have a proper rest."
Seara felt slightly bad for the nurse because she had to put her in this situation, but she had no other choice, since she couldn’t move on her own.
"Beta Silas, please follow me out."
At first, Silas looked as if he wanted to refuse. But after some consideration, he nodded and then left the room without saying anything.
Seara was relieved that he was finally gone. When the nurse also left, she could have her solitude back. Her phone was right on the table next to her bed, and when she checked, someone must have charged it.
However, there was no phone call or text from Zade, and she felt worried again. The situation had turned even more chaotic when Owen Brooke was dead—or so people thought, but the shifters knew better.
Owen had been a host for Leviathan in the past few months, and as he was dead, it meant the devil had another host—someone with more power than Owen. And it was not difficult to draw the conclusion about the new host: the king.
The head of the monarch would have more authority in handling things, and this made the shifters’ situation even worse.
Needless to say, it wouldn’t end well for the shifters.
Seara turned on the television and watched the news; her heart skipped a beat when she watched how the people had gone to the streets and started hunting the shifters. But this time, some of the shifters started retaliating against them.
And when they harmed humans, it only heightened the humans’ hostility toward the shifters. They didn’t even care about the fact that they were the ones who had instigated the killing.
There was also footage of a family of four who were executed on the spot because they were proven to be shifters. The record of their last minute of life was aired widely. People could see such a brutal scene on their television. The footage aired without any censorship, despite its inappropriateness.
And the only reason it aired without being censored was that someone higher up had ordered it.
In this era, spreading news widely through media was an effective way to shape a public opinion. People would consume it, and it would poison their minds. The media had pictured the shifters as monsters; thus, that was how people thought about shifters.
Seara looked at her phone again, but there was still no news from Zade.
