Chapter 1461 - 734: Narrow Escape (Part 2)
The entrance wasn’t manually drilled open, the broken area is jagged and uneven, clearly the handiwork of a monster.
"This used to be just a man-made passageway, but after such a long absence, it’s now wide enough for two large trucks to drive through simultaneously." They marveled, the changes in Camel Peak Mountain are truly significant.
Now that they’ve found the monster’s entry and exit point, following this path downward should lead them to the monster’s traces.
To confirm that the place they found is indeed the monster’s gathering area, and that there are no other exits, Lin Beichen took out the Compass to test if the monsters were nearby.
As soon as the Compass came out, the needle began to wobble erratically, making a lot of noise. Lin Beichen had never seen such a situation before.
"This is our destination." Lin Beichen said, frowning. What they are about to face is yet another adventure full of unknowns, definitely not safe, and there should be many monsters; otherwise, the Compass wouldn’t be wobbling so fiercely, it would only wobble slightly.
"So this is the destination." The two of them realized suddenly.
"Take out the treasures I gave you before on the car for self-defense," Lin Beichen reminded. Since they are completely unprepared and just joined Lin Beichen’s academy, learning nothing. To ensure their safety, Lin Beichen had given them some treasures to deal with the monsters in advance. Now that they have reached their destination, it’s time to take them out.
Lin Beichen had given them quite a few things to deal with monsters, but they were not exactly sure what to take out. When they saw Lin Beichen take out the Peach Wood Sword, they too took out the same item identically. Next, whatever Lin Beichen took out, they would follow suit.
Although they knew nothing of these items, Lin Beichen had previously explained to them the use of these items. Their minds were agile, remembering how to use these items.
Thus, they started to walk inside.
Just as they reached the doorway...
Ouyang Chenhai was intently staring ahead, maintaining vigilance at all times, fearing that a monster might suddenly rush out and tear them apart, thus ignoring the situation underfoot.
He accidentally stepped on something, and before he could react, a rope tightened around his ankle, instantly suspending him at the entrance.
"Ah!" He instinctively screamed loudly, completely not expecting to step on a rope and be hung in mid-air.
The commotion at the entrance immediately attracted the attention of the monsters inside.
The chaotic sound of footsteps and angry roars intermittently reached their ears.
"No way, why is there a trap here? How could I be so unlucky to step on it, the hit rate is just too high!"
Suspended in the air, Ouyang Chenhai lamented tearfully. The three of them advanced together, any of them could have triggered the trap, but the misfortune fell on his head.
Lin Beichen quickly realized the urgency of the situation. The ropes here were evidently deliberately set by the monsters to prevent humans from entering their territory. Once someone steps on the rope, it would make a noise, attracting the monsters’ attention, and then they would rush out to attack humans.
It seems these monsters are quite smart, coming up with such a tactic. But now is not the time to think about these things, Ouyang Chenhai is still hanging at the entrance, the immediate task is to rescue him.
"The monsters will be here any minute, Master, think of a way to get him down, otherwise he won’t make it!"
Li Ningzhi urged Lin Beichen anxiously, to quickly rescue Ouyang Chenhai.
He could discern that many monsters were rushing in their direction, and in considerable numbers. If there were only one or two monsters, Lin Beichen’s strength should be sufficient to deal with them, so they wouldn’t be too worried.
But now with so many monsters, even if Lin Beichen could handle them, they still had two unskilled people with them, and Lin Beichen had to divert his attention to protect them. In this case, they might fall into danger. So they must quickly rescue Ouyang Chenhai and then make a swift escape. Otherwise, if he couldn’t be rescued in time, once the monsters arrived, the two of them would have to retreat first, leaving Ouyang Chenhai hanging there alone.
"Master, please hurry up and get me down, I don’t want to die in such a place!"
Suspended in the air, Ouyang Chenhai loudly called out, urging Lin Beichen to think of a way to rescue him down. Whatever means it took, as long as it could save his life.
With a swift motion, Lin Beichen flung out the dagger he carried with him, using it to cut through the rope.
With a thud, Ouyang Chenhai landed heavily on the ground, his buttocks aching terribly. But he couldn’t care to complain, quickly scrambling to his feet, and without even bothering to brush off the dirt on his clothes, he followed Li Ningzhi and Lin Beichen, narrowly escaping just as the monsters almost reached the entrance, thus averting a disaster.
"That was incredibly close just now, if it weren’t for you, Master, rescuing me in time, I might have met King Yama."
Having narrowly escaped, Ouyang Chenhai patted his chest in lingering fear. He had been ready to face death, but at the critical moment, Lin Beichen was able to save him, allowing him to get up and run, finally eluding the monster’s pursuit.
"You all came on an adventure with me to Camel Peak Mountain, what would I say to them if something happened to your lives?"
Lin Beichen’s primary goal was to resolve the city’s crisis, and secondly, to ensure the safety of the two of them. After all, he had promised those people that he would definitely bring them back safely.
This incident made Lin Beichen feel a bit off. Although this was a monster gathering place, the fact that those monsters returned directly after seeing no one outside, without continuing to search for them, confirmed that someone must be directing their actions, thereby indicating that this person was the mastermind behind the scenes. Thus, they had yet to uncover the real culprit.
Take the leader out first; everyone knows this principle. As long as they find the mastermind and seize control, wouldn’t these monsters obey Lin Beichen?
To figure out what was going on, Lin Beichen decided to venture inside.
Recalling the danger Ouyang Chenhai had just encountered, Lin Beichen thought these two were really too rash. They had never gone through such situations and didn’t carefully observe the external environment, easily falling into traps.
It might be better to leave the two of them outside, while he explores alone.
"These monsters surely have a leader, so I plan to investigate alone next. The two of you remain outside and await my return. During this time, don’t wander or move around, lest I can’t find you once I return. You will be safe staying here; the monsters won’t come out and do anything to you."
Ouyang Chenhai had never experienced a scene like earlier and was now scared like a child. Li Ningzhi stood by, softly comforting him.
"Alright, don’t be afraid, it’s all over, we won’t encounter such situations again."
When Lin Beichen told them to just wait outside, Ouyang Chenhai didn’t say much, while Li Ningzhi responded, "Master, you must be careful. I actually want to go on an adventure with you, but seeing Ouyang Chenhai now, scared like this, I need to look after him; otherwise, if left alone, who knows where he might run off to."
Based on physique alone, Ouyang Chenhai had the advantage, but his bravery didn’t match up to Li Ningzhi’s. Though Li Ningzhi seemed unremarkable, he was very bold, often watching various horror materials at home, thus maintaining calm in the face of danger.
Now, he needed to take care of the terrified Ouyang Chenhai, unable to accompany Lin Beichen.
Lin Beichen could understand; even if Ouyang Chenhai didn’t need care and wanted to accompany him, Lin Beichen would refuse. This operation was too dangerous, and if Ouyang Chenhai did go with, Lin Beichen might not be able to save him in time if danger arose.
"Then focus on taking care of Ouyang Chenhai properly."
With everything arranged, Lin Beichen then proceeded alone.
