Duke of Krakowski

The Governor-General's Office in the Duke of Krakowski is built on a hill in the heart of the territorial capital Krakowski.

The Governor's Office is also Mr. Maya's, that is, the private residence of the Duke of Krakowski's house, and the Krakowski branch of the Police Department. In other words, the bureau and police station and home. For this reason, the internal structure is not messy......

"The west wing is the governor's office, the east wing is the police station, and the north wing is our home."

"... the north wing looks the biggest to me."

The Governor's Office is like a prefectural office in Japanese style in previous life. There was a building there that was more stylish and bigger than the Kanagawa Prefectural Government Building in the depths of my memory. And the fact that the residence of the Duke of Krakowski is bigger than its governor's office probably represents the power of the House of the Duke of Krakowski.

With Mr. Maya's guidance, His Highness Emilia and I walk inside the Governor's Office in the West Wing. Sarah and Radek work in a garrison on the outskirts, so now it's a different move. Exactly. I don't need a Kingsguard cavalry for security in the Governor's office. By the way, Julia keeps it with someone at Mr. Maya's house.

Top floor of the west wing. Upstairs high enough to overlook the city, there was the Governor's Office.

When Mr. Maya knocked, he received a short reply from inside, "Go ahead". When I opened the door, there was a handsome man who looked just like Maya.

"So let me introduce you. Lord of the Duke of Krakowski, my eldest son, and my brother, Governor Vitort Krakowski."

There is nothing extravagant about a military counsellor's office. Well, I'm kind of a captain, so it's strange in itself that I have a private room. My current place of work is the military inspector's office. A military counselor, or my executive desk, is available on the left front side of the military inspector's desk.

The job of a military counsellor seems to be as an adjunct to a military inspector. And the military inspector is Colonel Emilia, so I should be her assistant. The difference with Maya is... I guess I'm the staff officer and she's the deputy.

"I know what's going on to do anything. Let us look at the material given to us by His Excellency the Governor to determine our future policy."

That's why the first day ended with just loading the material on instructions from military inspector Colonel Emilia. I don't like paper work anymore... I'm not saying it's a good job.

The following August 4.

I more or less understand the current situation in the Duke of Krakowski territory, apparently. Apparently, His Highness Emilia was the only one who loaded the material and fully understood it.

"Your finances have deteriorated considerably before and after the Spring War. It's still acceptable, but it's not good if it stays like this."

Spring War is the war between Silesia and the Eastern Empire that took place from April 1 to June 14, 637 of the Continental Calendar. The official name in the Royal Ministry of Military Affairs is simply "Battle of the Silesia-Eastern Empire, 637 Calendar of the Continent", but it is commonly known as the "Spring War" because it was fought with the advent of spring because it is so long and tasteless.

"It should be somewhat better in the short term now that some of the mobilisation has been lifted. Domestic industries are also returning to the regular system."

"That's right. But labor costs such as military gratuities and convening allowances can't be foolish. Besides, these expenditures can't be reduced even if they increase..."

"Payroll cuts in military relations can be an opportunity for insurgency."

Yeah. These two are pretty much on the board about the military junta, too, that they worked for General Operations.

Me? I'm doing a simple job of flushing the paperwork they send me from right to left?

"Do you have anything for Mr. Yuzef?

"... why are you both well"

No, really. Just because you have how much economic power and population, what is the amount of this paperwork? And His Highness Emilia is too ghost of a job. I've never seen her hands stopped since I got here.

'Cause this is my job.'

If that one word alone makes you more efficient, there is no incompetent person in the world.

Well, I interpreted the stories of His Highness Emilia and Mr. Maya myself, and the major problem with this Duke of Krakowski territory is the financial balance.

The finances of the Duke of Krakowski's territory continue to be in a discernible situation of decreasing revenues and growing revenues.

The cause is still easy to understand. Because of this war. Revenues have fallen dramatically as a result of the military sucking up considerable personnel and resources for the war, and the total amount of gratuities has swelled up every time the war casualties leave. In the present situation, where a pact of conciliation with the Eastern Continental Empire has not yet been concluded, the means of doing something with compensation cannot be used.

Fiscal deficits seem to be manageable in the issuance of public bonds, but more public bonds are less preferable. The cost of redemption and interest on public bonds, as well as the labor costs I said gratuity, will stiffen the finances if they take the bulk of the budget.

This Mr. Maya also had quite a head.

"Can't do anything about bond redemption costs and interest, but can't we do something about labor costs"

"I also know what Mr. Maya says. But there's no other way to cut labor costs than to reduce the number of officials."

"... lower pay, then no?

"No. Reducing the salaries of officials poorly will only increase fraud and bribery"

Even officials are human beings. Naturally I want money. I may become impatient with a small salary and accept bribes or resign as an official.

Then I could only think of about restitution, but His Highness Emilia denies it, too.

"But as things stand, we can't reduce the number of officials."

"Why?

"Already, because the number of officials per population has fallen to the minimum number required. If we reduce our personnel any more..."

Oh, I see. It's going to be an overtime festival. That's not a level of inefficiency.

"Is that an improvement in revenue…"

"But there is no curtain for us martial officers. You will be part of the ranks of the civilian population."

The military part is the only part where a martial officer can speak. Revenue, or taxes, is trade income. The civil affairs part is civilian work. In the case of the Duke's territory, there is a person called the Secretary of Civil Affairs, so the person's job. The army is a gold-eating bug that doesn't contribute in any way to society's production, and military inspectors can't do anything about their revenues.

Exceptions would be His Highness Emilia and other royalty, and then Maya from the Duke Krakowski family. But neither of us seems willing to offend our civilian duties. I know it's supposed to be a good thing, but I don't even feel like my talents are being wasted.

And I don't have much authority in the civil, not the military.

What am I really supposed to do as a military counselor? Maybe this is an honorary position...
