Chapter 44: Visit to the bar.
Moreover...
Osborne stared at his open palm for a moment before clenching it.
He felt the muscles beneath brimming with strength and resilience far more than he’d ever felt before.
While not to an outstanding level, it still gave him hope that perhaps he wouldn’t end up like the Osborne in the novel who had to rely on his wife over and over due to his own incompetence.
While the carriage rode through the city. Both of them were completely unaware of someone watching and following them from amongst the streets.
Clawdeth stopped next to a stall selling kebabs, by the road before purchasing one.
’ I don’t understand what the young lady is thinking.’ she said to herself, recalling her conversation with Rebecca before her departure from the estate.
******
" I want you to follow him." Rebecca sat on her bed and said.
" Might I ask why my lady?" Clawdeth, who was positioned by the door, asked.
" Wouldn’t it be better to just let him be, it’s clear he’s destined to fail either way since he so foolishly rejected your sister’s kindness."
" That might be true." Rebecca said, furrowing her brows. " But I can’t help the feeling that, that was his aim from the start."
" If he really does know capable individuals able to teach him, I want you to make sure he isn’t able to recruit them."
" But your sister has already given him permission to recruit a teacher, not that I think he could, but if I were to be seen interfering–"
" Then don’t be seen." Rebecca shot her a slightly intense stare. " Just make sure that useless man fails to meet up with my sister’s request! Whatever it takes, even if you need to scare those people away."
" The thought of that useless man becoming useful leaves a bad taste in my mouth." Rebecca said, at the same time, the memory of the look on his face after he bit off a piece of her ear, surfaced in her head.
She gnashed her teeth in frustration.
" Do whatever it takes, just make sure that man isn’t given the opportunity to grow."
Clawdeth was silent for a moment, before letting out a breath and bowing her head.
" As you wish, my lady." She said.
*******
" And where here." Osborne said. " Driver, could you please stop the carriage."
’ What?’ Natalie on the other hand was confused.
" As you wish, Sir." The coachman said before bringing the carriage to a halt.
’ But isn’t this place...’ Natalie stared out the window with a look of confusion.
’ A bar?’ She said when she saw the simple drinking establishment outside.
’ How are we supposed to find a skilled teacher at a place like this?’ she said to herself.
" Oh, I almost forgot." Osborne said before looking at Natalie.
" What is it, Young master?" Natalie asked.
’ Did he finally realise that we’re in the wrong place?’ Natalie couldn’t help but wonder.
" Could I please borrow some money from you." Osborne said with an awkward smile.
"...." Natalie turned silent, not sure what to say.
After getting off the carriage, the both of them walked into the bar.
The moment she walked in, the thick stench of alcohol and masculinity hit her in the face, causing Natalie to scrunch up her nose a bit.
" Young master, are you sure this is the right place?"
" Don’t worry, just leave things to me." Osborne said before walking over to a table where a gruff looking large man sat.
" What you want, kid..." The gruff man said, eyeing Osborne with furrowed brows.
Not only him, but several of the bars patrons as well had looked at him strangely on account of how he was dressed of course. It wasn’t every day these people saw someone in such luxury attire.
’ Is this the man the young master has been seeking?’ Natalie stood silently behind Osborne watching the gruff man who sat opposite him.
" Fancy a little wager." Osborne said with a light smile.
" A wager?" The large man raised a brow.
" Yep, It’s been awhile since I’ve had a drink so let’s make a bet, whosoever managed to out drink the other, gets to make one request of the loser."
The gruff man’s expression turned strange.
" You? Want to drink against me?" The muscular man said, as if he’d just heard something absurd.
" Is that kid alright."
" Just looking at his small frame, there’s no way he could beat Glorgan in a drinking contest. The man drinks at least a barrel of beer a day."
" That kid must be out of his mind."
" I’m guessing you aren’t from around here are ya." The muscular man chuckled.
Others also thought the same.
" Must be some rich kid out to cause a mock.
" But still, to challenge Glorgan to drink off, that kids either got balls or is just looking for some attention."
" If you’re the one paying, then sure, let’s get on with it." Glorgan said. Slamming his fist on the table while grinning happily.
Osborne let out a quiet laugh before looking at Natalie.
She had a troubled look on her face, but nevertheless, she nodded.
’ I don’t know what the young master sees in this man... Hopefully I’m wrong and he’s not about to waste his chance to get on my lady’s good graces.’ she thought to herself as she approached the counter.
Shortly after, two cups of drinks were brought to Osborne’s table. Though cups were an understatement since they looked more like jugs if anything.
" I’ll go first, to let you know what you’re getting into kid, I don’t like taking advantage of brats like you, you see." Glorgan chuckled before grabbing one cup and downing it in the blink of an eye.
" Uwah~!" Glorgan slammed his cup down on the table , then let out a satisfied breath.
He watched as Osborne gradually downed his own cup until there was nothing left.
" Thinking of giving up?" Glorgan smirked.
" Not at all, another set please." He gestured towards the counter.
The bar maid at the counter looked at Natalie.
Natalie shook her head softly, letting out a sigh.
" Give him as much as he wants." She said.
