Chapter 19: Shitty Sword.
RUMBLE~
The earth began to shake again as the huge door gradually pushed inwards, opening up to reveal a room filled with glistening jewels and all sorts of treasure.
" Jack pot!" He said, grinning from ear to ear.
Osborne walked inside the room, as he did so, the earth shook again as the stone door closed behind him.
The moment he took a step forward though, the autonomous voice returned once more.
[Two hands enter my chamber, yet only one may leave full. The hand that reaches for hunger returns satisfied, while the hand that reaches for desire returns empty. What is my law?]
’ What? Another test?’ Hearing the voice, Osborne stopped in his tracks, afraid he might make a mistake without realising it.
He stood there with one hand on his chin as he pondered what the riddle meant.
’ Two hands enter my chamber, yet only one may leave full...’
’ The hand that reaches for hunger returns satisfied, while the hand which reaches for desire returns empty–’
’ Desire!’ Osborne’s eyes widened as something clicked in his head.
At the same time he couldn’t help but look regretful.
" You’re telling me to only take that which I need and not that which I want..." Osborne said out loud.
He received nothing but silence, whether he was right or wrong, that left to be said.
" Well this just makes things trickier... Take that which I need." Osborne shook his head, laughing lightly.
" For me there’s only one choice." He said as his gaze turned firm.
He then began walking forward, searching through the horde of treasure in search of what he wanted.
Due to the sheer size of the treasure horde, he spent hours searching but to no avail.
’ Why on earth would a god even have a horde of treasure in their temple?’ Osborne slumped back on the mountains of treasure only to quickly regret it when his back and head hurt.
" Brrrrr!" Osborne shivered uncontrollably.
While on the stairs he felt that this entire temple was unnaturally cold, but after entering the treasure hold, the cold seemed to have increased several fold and yet there were no signs of ice to be seen.
Not wanting to turn into an ice sculpture.
He slid down the treasure mountain he was on before reaching into his pack and taking out some sticks, flint and leaves.
Osborne had already come prepared in case he needed to stay in the temple longer than expected.
Strangely enough, the chilling cold had no effect on the fire, moreover, the fire’s effects on him seemed to have lessened greatly due to its effects.
Osborne sat near the fire to restore as much warmth as he could.
" Is this shitty cold also part of the test as well." He grumbled as he held onto his shivering body.
Taking out some beef jerky from his bag, he heated it by the fire before gobbling it down.
" Hwah~" Osborne let out a satisfied breath after eating the hot jerky, especially as it slid down his throat and warmed his insides.
After he was done eating, he packed up his things and began searching through the horde again.
Several more hours went by like this. Each time Osborne felt that the cold was becoming unbearable, he would set up a make shift camp to warm up and replenish himself before continuing again.
And just like that, 3 days went by.
On the third day, Osborne reached the top of a mountain of treasure, when he looked down behind the mountain, tears of joy couldn’t help sliding down his cheeks.
Below the base of the mountain was a simple silver great sword.
" I finally found it..." He said with joy, silently whipping the lingerie tears from his face.
He then slid down the mountain of treasure to reach the sword.
The appearance of the blade no doubt looked simple, but it was because of this simplicity that Osborne knew he found the legendary blade he was looking for.
The current form of the sword was but a cloaking mechanism and its base form. The legendary sword was designed to unseal its powers according to how much the welder could withstand.
And while that sounded like some sort of nerf, in fact it wasn’t, because the amount of power one could draw out from it was relatively incredible.
Osborne stared at the blade with undescribable emotions.
With this sword, he would finally be able to wash away all the humiliation those two sisters had forced him to endure.
With its help, he would even be able to return his family to their rightful rank in the kingdom.
WEEVE~
’ Huh?’ Osborne froze up, his hand still outstretched after the sword, for some reason, avoided his grasp.
"..."
He furrowed his brows before trying again.
WEEVE~
WEEVE~
WEEVE~
No matter how many times he tried, the sword refused to let him grab it.
" Gosh darn it! Just stay still will you!" He yelled at the blade.
In a fit of rage, he pounced on it.
’ What are you going to do now.’ Osborne said with a grin as he held the sword down with both hands.
VWOOM~
" UWAHH!" But to husband disbelief, the sword released a huge pulse of energy that sent him flying.
BAM!
CLATTER!
He ended up slamming into a mountain of gold, coins scattering about as his body gradually slid to the ground.
" Urrgh..." Osborne clutched at his head as he stared at the sword some distance away.
To his disbelief, the weapon was hopping up and down and swaying left and right as if mocking him for trying to even claim it.
’ Rotten bastard! How the hell is that supposed to be a holy sword!’ Osborne cursed his luck, gnashing his teeth in anger.
The sword, as if sensing his rage, actually hopped on over to him before dancing right in his face, as if saying.
(So what if you’re mad, just try to touch me again and I’ll send you flying again!)
’ I can’t believe this whole adventure turned out to be a complete failure...’ Osborne wiped his face with one hand, looking glum.
