Chapter 150: Promises are kept
Looked down on by the guard the moment she walked through the gate. Brutally fucked by Marcus. Deceived by Tamayo. Caged by the servants. And now, to top it all off, pinned to the ground by a... BRAT!
Daki exploded.
"That’s it! Have you all made it your mission to destroy me?!!"
The demonic markings spread across her face once more. This time she wasn’t holding back!
With barely half of her sashes, she shoved Nezuko off her with a violent push and spun around to get back on her feet.
The sashes regenerated until they blotted out the sky and came crashing down on Nezuko in a torrent.
’I don’t believe this!’
’I’ve reigned over all of Yoshiwara for years!’
’I’ve always been the one who does the hitting! Who does this kid think she is, hitting ME!?’
’An illusion!’
’IT HAS TO BE ANOTHER DAMN ILLUSION!’
Like hungry jaws, the sashes lunged to devour Nezuko.
With that, Daki took it for granted that she would shatter the illusion.
But the feeling of emptiness at the tips of her sashes made her frown.
’I didn’t hit her!?’
She looked at the spot where Nezuko had been a second ago: the ground blasted to pieces, and not a single drop of blood.
She drew her sashes back and swept her surroundings with a tense gaze.
And the very next instant...
The vanished Nezuko reappeared at her side like a bolt of lightning.
One kick.
Another.
And once again, a clean, precise heel strike right to that face Daki was so proud of.
Worse yet: it landed exactly on top of the previous mud print.
"AAAH—!"
Daki went flying with a shriek and slammed into the mansion’s perimeter wall.
The wall came crashing down with a roar, spitting bricks and rubble in every direction.
But Daki was no pushover either.
By the next second she had already snapped out of it: nobody caught her twice with the same trick. She came to her senses in a flash, shook off the debris, and got up.
She furiously rubbed her twice-kicked face, wiped off the dirt, and, after regenerating the swollen area, laughed coldly.
"You’ve got speed, but you lack strength!"
"Now it’s my turn!"
She crouched, ready to charge, sashes bristling at her back like tentacles poised to strike.
But, of course, everything went sideways again.
Nezuko’s combo wasn’t over yet!
The blood that had spilled onto her—when the sashes sliced her palm, when she threw her through the air...
It flared up all at once the instant Nezuko, from a distance, closed her fist!
And a brutal blaze erupted out of nowhere.
The fire caught on Daki’s body and turned her into a living torch.
"KYAAAAA!!!"
Daki’s ultimate terror was fire.
For hundreds of years, nothing had terrified her as much as fire.
The fire that took everything from her when she was human remained, to this very day, the nightmare she could never wake up from.
And as fate would have it, she ended up facing Nezuko.
Because her Blood Demon Art of Exploding Blood could detonate her own blood.
Burning demons and purifying humans.
It was the perfect counter.
Staring at the flames with eyes bulging in horror, Daki’s screams changed.
This was torment both physical and mental!
In an instant, all her pride, all her rage, all her resentment... evaporated and made room for one single thing. Fear.
"I’ll give them back!!"
"STOP!!"
"Your worms, I’ll give you back your damn worms, just stop—!"
Hearing her, Nezuko’s wild eyes, still in her demon form, gradually calmed until they returned to that sweet pink of always.
Remaining silent, she tilted her head.
"I want... ten times more."
"AAAHH!!! O-okay, ten times more, as many as you want!"
Daki was already crying inconsolably from the burning.
At this point, how the fuck could she care how many worms she had to give back?
"I-I’ll give them to you! Ten times more! Just put this out, PUT IT OUT NOW—!"
Nezuko waved her little hand.
And the flames went out all at once.
Daki collapsed among the ruins, her body charred, smoke rising from her head.
Under the moonlight, two figures, one big and one small, stared at each other.
One standing. The other sprawled on the ground.
A while passed.
Nezuko, already shrunk back to her normal size, walked over to Daki. She squatted down and tilted her head to look at her up close.
"Ball?"
At the sound of that childish little voice, Daki shuddered and, kicking and scrambling, scooted several meters backward.
Nezuko blinked. She picked the shovel up off the ground, went after her, and shoved it into her hand without ceremony.
"Marcus says..." she spoke with a very serious face. "That promises... are kept."
Looking at the innocent-looking little demon in baggy clothes standing before her, the corner of Daki’s eye twitched.
She took a deep breath. And, through gritted teeth, muttered:
"... I know."
And dragging her feet, swallowing every last bit of the humiliation, she made her way to the flower bed and, of course, stuck her butt out.
...
On the third floor, Marcus stood in front of the window, gazing at the back courtyard with a face of pure incomprehension.
He had been woken up a while ago by the blows and the racket rising from below.
Beside him, Tamayo was holding back her laughter as best she could, clinging to his arm.
"What’s wrong? Watching your new conquest get roughed up... does it break your heart?"
Marcus pointed out the window at Daki, who at that very moment was turning over the dirt with her butt up in the air.
And beside her, Nezuko stood guard like a foreman, little hands behind her back and a frown of supreme authority.
"I just took a nap... how the hell did things end up like this?"
"No idea~" Tamayo smiled mischievously. "Maybe it’s just a girls’ squabble."
Marcus pointed at the perimeter wall, which had been reduced to rubble, his eyes wide as saucers.
"A girls’ squabble? It can end like THAT?!"
"It’s fine, I’ll ask Yushiro to fix it tomorrow."
Then, Tamayo changed the subject.
"By the way, I just got hold of some information... It has to do with your new girlfriend."
"Information?"
Marcus was thrown off for a moment.
"You mean the reason Daki came here?"
Tamayo nodded. "It’s just as you imagined, she was sent on Muzan’s orders."
Marcus finally turned serious.
"Tell me."
Tamayo recounted in detail how Muzan had sent Daki to investigate the mansion, and even with orders to win Marcus’s loyalty.
When she finished speaking, she gave him a reproachful look.
"Your reputation as a womanizer is known all over the world by now."
"And is that a crime?" Marcus raised an eyebrow. "The desire for food and sex is part of human nature!"
"What are you even talking about~?"
Laughing, Tamayo gave him a playful swat.
"You’d better think first about what you’re going to do with that girl."
"Do? Why would I have to do anything? Pretending I don’t know a thing is enough."
"Fine by me, but doesn’t it bother you that she lied to you?"
"Heh~ Let her lie all she wants." Marcus shrugged. "Didn’t you say so yourself? She’s already stepped up to defend me twice."
He smiled.
"No one knows better than you the sheer dread Muzan instills in demons. And if she’s already doing that after knowing me for just one day... do you really think I won’t be able to handle her down the line?"
He leaned toward Tamayo’s ear and lowered his voice.
"And if you do think so... then you’re seriously underestimating your husband."
Tamayo’s face turned red.
"You’re shameless~! All you know how to do is take advantage of your Breathing Technique to fool young girls."
"Fool young girls? The one fooling young girls around here is you."
Marcus pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her.
"Come on, tell me. What’s this about your new ability? I don’t remember you being able to fool people like that before."
