Chapter 290: Fate Knot
’ That’s another I’ve always wondered about, what do they want with me? I don’t think I’ve ever offended them?’ he asked sarcastically.
’ It’s not what you did, it’s what you are, you are a child of destiny, the survival of the entire worlds depends on you.’
Adrian’s curiosity was pigued, ’ Tell me more.’
’ I can’t.’ she answered.
’ Can’t or won’t?’ he asked in an irritated tone. He felt her presence growing stronger in his mind.
’ Mind your tone when talking to me child, I’m your elder.’
’ Yes ma’am I’m sorry.’ for a moment Adrian was reminded of Meggie and he found himself apologising to Anyx.
’ It is fine, I’m sorry for raising my voice, I understand your frustration, so much burden placed on such a little boy, it is unfair on you.’
’ Little child? I’m almost a hundred years old, no in fact including the time I spent in Niflheim, I’m thousands of years old, probably older than you.’ he retorted.
He could’ve sworn he had giggling in his head. ’ I’m much older than you can imagine child.
Sensing your bone age, you’re no more than a hundred and twenty years old, you’re no more than an infant to me.
I’ve carried pregnancies longer than the life you’ve lived and don’t count Niflheim, the time dilation does not affect your age much.
Even if you do count it though, I would still be much older than you are, do you get the idea now?’
The conversation became a bit more casual and he found himself being steered away from the original topic.
’ No no no, we’re not skipping this, tell me why you can’t tell me about my destiny, it involves my life, the least you could do is allow me to prepare for it.’
He heard her sigh, how somebody sighed through telepathy, he couldn’t figure that out, he could do it with pack call but that a completely different ability with its own rules.
’ Even if I wanted to tell you I can’t, I can’t see anything.’ that confused Adrian, he knew Anyx was the leader of the divination covenant.
If anybody can tell him anything about the future, it’s her, he couldn’t understand what she meant by she can’t see.
’ The future is never set, there are countless possibilities each with its own probability depending on the present and the past.
If you stole something, the probability of its owner searching for you increases, if you show kindness to others.
The probability of them returning kindness to you increases and the opposite is also true.
That’s why karma and fate are so intertwined, the future is not written like a book, it can change.
What divination does is allow us to see these possible futures and we can filter those with the lowest probabilities.
Normally that is.’
’ Normally? Is there an event when that is not true?’ he asked with confusion.
’ They’re rare, these are called destiny or fate knots, they are fixed events in the river of space-time that cannot be changed.
These lay outside of the rules of karma and time, they are are acts of.... anyways, through divination we can see these fates knots.’
’ So, is mine also a fate knot, you’re telling me i can’t change my destiny? So should I just lay down and wait for whatever happens?’
Adrian found himself raising his mental voice at her, this sent a pulse of psionic esper so dense it caused a disturbance in the air.
He felt the presence of the Rendersol getting closer and Anyx cut off the telepathic connection between them.
The Rendersol lingered around him like cold wind that rose from the depth of the underworld itself.
Then it left probably searching for others, it was a good thing this thing couldn’t see those who couldn’t see it or think of its form.
Otherwise everybody would’ve died here, probably not him and Annie but based on Anyx’s reaction, she most likely would perish too.
However he was still skeptical that it could kill him. After the Rendersol left, the connection returned.
’ Calm yourself little one, this thing can sense you if you cause too much disturbance.
As I was explaining, I can’t see your fate, I see no knots, I see no path, I see absolutely nothing.’
Adrian grew a bit nervous, ’ Doesn’t that mean I die?’
’ I don’t know, the fate of death is usually seen as darkness, we can darkness, as I’ve said,I see nothing when looking at your fate.’
Adrian didn’t know how to answer so he just kept quiet. Anyx said nothing after and they waited for the Rendersol to leave.
Four days later, the Rendersol finally left and its presence left the range of his wheel which now covered thousands of kilometres of territory.
Everybody could finally open their eyes, Annie sent a pulse of psionic esper waking everybody up.
-----------------------------------------------
" It was nice meeting you little one but I must take my leave now, I suggest you prepare yourself.
If a Rendersol walks the earth, then the Axiom are not far from waking up, when they do, the seals will break one after another as well, prepare yourself."
" Wait!" Adrian stopped her just as she was about to leave.
" It’s because you’re a child of blood, no matter the prejudice others might have, you are out blood and that will not change."
" I hadn’t asked you anything."
" Yet." She responded, " I’m a divination witch boy, have you forgotten? Also, the issue with warlocks is more complicated."
She disappeared before he could ask anything else, Adrian smiled, she knew everything he was going to ask before he could.
This also meant she knew he was going to ask about Meggie and escaped to not answer.
" Can’t see my fate my ass." He figured that was just bull crap, if she couldn’t see his fate how could she predict his questions.
He turned to Annie who looked downcast, " What’s wrong?" He pulled her into his arms.
" The party I prepared for, for so long was ruined just like that." She sounded genuinely saddened.
" I’m sorry, we can always have another celebration." He responded the best he could.
He didn’t care but he was trying to be sensitive for her but Annie shook her head.
" Thank you but no, it wouldn’t be the same, besides, I don’t think many would attend, not after we lost a guest."
They turned towards the corpse on the ground, actually calling it a corpse was not accurate.
In the traditional sense at least, the body was still breathing as if alive but it had no soul.
