Chapter 2047: Bregor
Max looked at her with an innocent expression. "I’m just thinking the Battle Space sounds useful."
Daniel, who’d been listening quietly nearby, suddenly smiled. "It is useful. But only if you know what you’re doing."
Anna’s expression turned serious again. "Don’t rush into it blindly. The Battle Space might not kill you, but it can expose you. If you show too much of your strength there, people outside will start paying attention."
Max understood exactly what she meant. The Battle Space protected life, but it didn’t protect secrets. Every technique he used, every power he revealed, every victory he earned could turn into information other people would buy, sell, and study.
In a place like the Godslayer’s Pilgrimage, showing strength carelessly could get just as dangerous as showing weakness.
Still, the opportunity was real.
Just then, Daniel walked back toward them, his gaze moving across Max, Damian, Revona, and Anna before he spoke. "They done?"
Anna nodded. "I think they’ve got the basics now."
"Good," Daniel said. "Then it’s time to move."
"Move?"
A cold sneer suddenly came from behind them.
Max and the others turned around at the same time.
A group of Dragon Race geniuses had shown up, blocking the path leading out of the Information Hall. There were several of them, all in humanoid form, though their dragon traits were impossible to miss. Scales covered their arms, necks, and parts of their faces like natural armor.
Some had curved horns rising from their heads, while others had long tails swaying behind them with a slow, dangerous rhythm. Their eyes were sharp and vertical, carrying the natural arrogance of ancient beasts who believed their bodies alone could suppress most opponents.
The one standing at the front gave off a particularly oppressive presence. His body stood tall and broad, dark bronze scales covering one side of his neck before spreading down toward his shoulder. His pupils were golden, his arms crossed over his chest, and his expression carried a lazy arrogance that made it obvious he wasn’t here for friendly conversation.
"Daniel," the Dragon Race genius said, his gaze sweeping across Max, Damian, and Revona. "These the three Primordial newcomers who came in this time?"
Daniel’s expression stayed calm. "What about them, Bregor?"
’Bregor?’ Max’s eyes narrowed slightly at the name. He’d seen that name not long ago on the Bloodstone City Rankings. Bregor sat ranked eighth. Only one spot below Daniel.
That meant the dragon standing in front of them was one of the strongest figures in Bloodstone City. No wonder he’d dared to block Daniel’s group inside the Information Hall so openly. Even without attacking directly, his presence alone was enough to draw a crowd.
Some nearby participants slowed their steps. A few devils stopped watching the information screens and turned around with amused expressions.
Several angels glanced over with faint interest, while some Spirit Race members quietly stepped aside, clearly unwilling to get involved but curious enough to watch. In a place like Bloodstone City, a confrontation between the seventh and eighth ranked geniuses was enough to draw attention even without a fight breaking out.
Bregor smiled, showing sharp teeth. "Nothing much. Was just thinking that since both our races got newcomers this time, why not make things a little interesting?"
Daniel looked at him silently.
Bregor gestured toward the four Dragon Race newcomers behind him. "How about we bet some marks on whose newcomers are better? Just your Primordial Race and my Dragon Race. Newcomers against newcomers. Should be fair enough."
Daniel didn’t answer right away. His gaze moved toward the four Dragon Race newcomers. All four sat at the 1st level of the Divine Lord Realm. Their cultivation clearly ran much higher than Max’s, and their dragon bloodline gave them naturally powerful bodies.
Against ordinary geniuses, any one of them would be extremely hard to deal with. But Damian and Revona weren’t ordinary either, and Max was an even stranger case.
After a moment, Daniel nodded. "Sure."
Anna looked at him, a little surprised.
Daniel continued calmly, "But our Primordial side only has three newcomers here, so we don’t need four battles. We’ll do three matches. Whichever side wins two takes the bet."
Bregor’s smile widened. "Daniel, no wonder even some members of the Dragon Race respect you. You really do have nerve."
Daniel’s expression didn’t change. "Bregor, we both know a small number of marks won’t help or hurt either of us much. If I win, it’s a bit of extra gain. If I lose, it won’t touch me."
"You really are strange," Bregor said, shaking his head with a grin. "Most people would at least pretend to care."
"I only care when the amount’s actually worth caring about," Daniel replied.
Bregor laughed. "Fine. Since you’re so relaxed about it, let’s make it three hundred Gold Marks."
The moment those words landed, several people nearby reacted. Three hundred Gold Marks wasn’t a small amount. Even for top-ranked geniuses, that wasn’t something most people would toss around casually for entertainment.
It was enough to buy valuable information, powerful resources, high-grade cultivation rooms, and access to plenty of special places in the outer layer. For newcomers, the value felt even more terrifying.
Anna’s brows furrowed slightly. Damian and Revona turned serious too.
Daniel, though, just looked at Bregor calmly.
Bregor continued, "If my Dragon Race newcomers win two out of three matches, I get three hundred Gold Marks from you. If your Primordial newcomers win two out of three, you get three hundred Gold Marks from me."
"Fine by me," Daniel said with a faint smile.
Bregor’s eyes flashed with satisfaction.
Daniel then turned to Anna, Max, Damian, and Revona. His gaze stayed calm, but a faint hint of interest showed through. "So, how about it? You three willing to take the challenge?"
Before Damian or Revona could speak, Max smiled. "Sure," Max said calmly. "It’ll be an easy win on my side."
For a moment, the air around them seemed to go quiet.
Anna stared at him.
Daniel looked at him in silence too.
Even Damian’s lips twitched slightly, while Revona blinked, like she was wondering if Max had actually just said that in front of Bregor and the Dragon Race newcomers.
