Dream Life

Episode 80: Site Survey

Tria Calendar October 15, 2016.

The climate is also good this time of year, and we often head out to the Saeum Mountains to hunt demons.

Because five and zero days are college holidays, we often go hunting in three nights and four days, including holidays.

I would prefer a day trip because I would have classes at the academy, but I didn't have enough in the nearby woods on a level, and I really needed to get into the mountains to hunt for the demons we had.

When that happens, you need to go at least fifty km down the mountain road, and the percentage of travel time is just too high and inefficient for day trips and overnight trips. So I try to go hunting in the long run for the weather to stabilize.

But this time it's a little different. It was not a demon hunt, but headed to a place with the Saeum Mountains as a request for nomination.

This time, our client is Professor Kitley Erbain, an old friend of Liddy's. She said she got information about the prehistoric ruins from informant Cy Furman, and we, Zachsextedt, sent out a nomination request.

They say the site is near a village called Hallockwood, which is about 50 km west of Als Avenue, from a small lodging town called Hollywell, and about five km further north.

Rhinoceros said there were rumors of a metal golem appearing near the village of Holockwood, and Mr. Kitley, who heard about it, wondered if there might be a ruin and decided to hire us as escorts and guides.

Hollywell, the lodging town, is a small city with a population of about a thousand, seems to be a replenishment base site of the Imperial period with stone walls, a city built not as strong as a castle fortress but strong enough. After a night in that Hollywell, we're going into a side road to the side of the Saeum Mountains.

For the record, they say this side road used to be a street through the Saeum Mountains. However, the invasion operation of the Caerm Empire more than a decade ago wiped out the pioneering village on the side of the Kingdom of Lax, which was at the end of the street, and furthermore the Caerm renounced its occupied territory, so now there is no one to come and go and it is completely obsolete.

The village of Hallockwood is a small village within the dangerous Saeum Mountains. But as far as the map goes, there is a deep valley to the west of the village, a cut cliff to the north, and the streets that run from the south to the northeast are also like piers along the river flowing from the mountains, which is exactly where it should be called natural importance. They appear to have previously been used as a front-line base for the Empire, with loose meadows on the south side that can be used as garrisons, protected by a high fence along the border with the forest.

A silver golem appeared on the west side of the Holockwood, opposite the valley.

This time, the nomination came to us because there are so many of our parties that are lighter than the others. Ordinary parties have heavily equipped avant-gardes, but our party is avant-garde, Beatrice, and Mel are both speed types, and we don't use heavy metal armor or or shields.

Mr. Kitley said he nominated us, thinking about steep mountain trails and cliff treads. Of course, high combat power and familiarity with the past are also reasons for nomination.

This request was scheduled for five days, including round-trip travel, and was a broken reward of one hundred C (krona) per person per day, or 100,000 yen per day. In addition, depending on what was discovered in the ruins, bonuses will be awarded. This is also the effect of the reform of the College, which, he said, has significantly increased the expenses available to good researchers like Mr. Kitley.

To buy investigative time, he rushed fifty kilometers from Doctus all at once into Hollywell and made his way to Hallockwood early the second morning.

There are many dangers on the west side of Ars Street, but we didn't do anything with the merchants. From Hollywell to Hollywood is a narrow road in the deep woods, but only once did you encounter the giant spider Giant Spider, and you enter the village at 8: 00 a.m. without a battle-like battle.

"Well, I'm gonna go get some information from a witness."

Mr. Kitley does not look like a skirt and tunic when he is in college, but wears leather armor and hangs a short sword on his hips. He has a strong image of being buried in a book in a library or lab, but surprisingly, he used to often go into the woods to find ruins, and was also a high-level magician at level sixty.

As soon as we searched the village for witnesses, we gathered information.

A month ago, a silver golem-like object glittering in the light of day was walking across the coast of the West Valley. Then a few times, I was seen walking from south to north. Information gathers, such as the fact that there was no movement to show particular interest in this village.

Moreover, it is said that this village has been around for over a hundred years, but the elders of the village did not know about the silver golem either.

Ms. Kitley had made the hypothesis that there were ancient ruins on the west side of the village and that the Golem, the guardian "Guardian" there, had come to roam outside the ruins due to some circumstances.

The valley on the west side of the village is about 30 m deep and about 50 m wide in a narrow area. No bridge has been crossed nearby, and in order to cross it, we have to go down to the bottom of the valley once before going up, or back to Ars Street before crossing the river and heading north through the woods.

This time it's an operation where someone crosses the valley with a rope and gives it to him to cross the valley.

It's me and Dan who cross down the valley. Both are lightweight and even better at detecting signs. Dunn and I were chosen to be able to do both the avant-garde and the rear guard, thinking about vigilance on the other shore and in case of a battle.

The valley on the village side is ready to descend in order to take fish in the river that flows down. Of course, there are some scaffolding to make it easier to pass on the rocks and get off, without a road or anything.

Down to the bottom of the valley, a beautiful gorge was flowing.

The river was about five metres wide, with rocks protruding out of the river, and if you jumped on it, you could cross right across the shore.

From there I climbed the cliff, but the moss-grown rock was slippery and climbed slowly, taking my legs off many times.

When I went up in about thirty minutes, there was a deep forest with no human hands in it at all.

I'll give Dan the rope, and I'll be on perimeter alert. He's better at detecting signs, but he decides it's less dangerous for me to move freely.

Perform the task of handing over the rope and come across the river in the order of Beatrice, Sharon, Mr. Kitley, Mel and Liddy. Mel, as well as Sharon, are trained on mountain walks, and this degree of contour does not bitter at all.

Beatrice's on this side, and we're looking for Golem footprints. He said he hadn't seen it in the past few days, but since it was a forest with nothing, he was able to find footprints immediately.

Footprints are rectangular about fifty cm long and thirty cm wide, with considerable weight or the ground sinking a few cm.

"You can follow the trail right away with this. And then there's how much demons come out."

That's what Beatrice says, she narrows her eyes and looks around to be vigilant. In her experience, there are big demons near ancient ruins that you wouldn't even think to see, and you have to be more alert than usual.

Normally, they didn't want to take this request, but they reluctantly agreed to take it because it was a request from someone they knew and because our party was so aggressive.

As soon as we cross to the last Liddy, we leave. Today's investigation was scheduled until we found the location of the site, and at night we planned to return to the village.

Dan, who leads the way, tracks (traces) Golem's footprints as he guards his surroundings. We're on guard, but something's wrong.

It looks like a rich forest, but there are very few signs of creatures. There are small creatures such as bugs. But there was usually no bird chirping that was supposed to be heard, and only a strangely loud noise was heard: Zawazawa, as the wind swept through the great trees about two metres in diameter.

That's not why I'm feeling murderous. Besides, there's not so much creature as a forest of death, nor does it feel like the undead is coming out. But the creepy feelings don't go away.

I said, "Isn't something wrong?," he said in his voice, "everyone felt the same way, Beatrice nodded, and Liddy also said," Right. The woods are too quiet, "he replies.

Dan also said, "Instead of demons, there's no sign of rabbits or wild birds. I don't even have any footprints other than the golem......" he mutters.

I said to Beatrice, "What do we do?," she says, "What's the professor's opinion," and sees Mr. Kitley.

Mr. Kitley said, "Well... if it doesn't feel dangerous, I'd like you to move on a little bit," and looked at us in turn. Nobody, including me, feels any danger, so we all nod small and leave again.

Proceeding north through the woods for about two hours, but with only the mountains visible from among the trees approaching, the situation remained almost unchanged.

To get lunch, once we went into a break, for some reason the severe air dominated. I don't feel that much, but they feel somewhat ominous except for me.

(I don't know what to say. A little different, but the atmosphere is a factory at night. I usually have signs of people, but I can't feel them at all. Sometimes, I hear machines. Don't feel like that......)

Finish your break and walk out again, but the atmosphere never changes. On the contrary, the ominous feeling that anyone but me feels is getting stronger.

After about an hour, Beatrice orders a halt.

"I can't get rid of the bad feeling. You should go back."

Everyone nodded, including me. And when he tried to return to his original path, Liddy was small and issued a warning, "It's a golem".

Looking ahead of her gaze, she had a golem about three meters tall shining in silver. The golem was crossing west about fifty meters ahead of us, sounding heavy footsteps.

(You're more of a robot than a golem. That's also in the shape of a horn that appears in a big old cartoon... and yet, it's a cleverly walking thing. If you think of it as a robot crossing obstacles, diving branches, or walking bipedally, that's amazing performance. Well, when it comes to skeletons, I guess it's no wonder or anything......)

I don't know if you haven't noticed or if you're not interested, but you walk away ignoring us.

Beatrice said, "What do we do?" He muttered, "I'd like you to find out where you're going if you can," Mr. Kitley asked.

I'm also interested in where the Golem is going,

"Can't we just find out where we're going? If you think it's dangerous, I'll scout."

In the end, we will all be traveling, giving in and tracking about fifty meters behind the golem.

After enough, the woods suddenly opened and the cliffs were visible. The cliff was cut about ten meters high, with a slightly woodless plain in front of the cliff.

The Golem stopped on the flat. And slowly approaching the cliff without ever being alert to the surroundings.

As we breathe and watch, a little magic is released from the arms of the Golem.

When I groan, "There's magic out of my arms," Liddy nods, too, and tilts her neck, "I wonder what you're going to do".

About a minute after the golem started releasing magic, I heard a low sound from the cliff that felt like gogogo. We're on perimeter alert, but nothing unusual.

But soon everyone understood what was happening. I thought it was the only cliff made of rock, but part of it slowly came out, and a passage about three meters high and two meters wide appeared. Behind it was a stainless steel-like silver color, with a light of light leaking from the back.

And the golem slowly enters into it.

We watched from the woods about thirty meters away, but Mr. Kitley said, "Wouldn't it be possible to get in there?" Because the golem went inside, but the door was still open.

Beatrice shook her head sideways small,

"I don't know how long it's open. Could get trapped."

That's what I said, I didn't allow it.

I nodded, "I agree with Beatrice, too," and turned to Mr. Kitley and said, "I know where it is for now. You should observe a little more of Golem's behavior," he suggested.

Mr. Kitley looks a little sorry, but he eventually accepted my suggestion.

To be honest, I was interested inside, too. Professor Raspade and Mr. Kitley say that metal passages are characteristic of ancient ruins. In other words, this is likely a prehistoric site.

And the important thing is that this ruin is alive. I don't know what role the Golem plays, but at least the door opening mechanism and lighting are alive. Then there could be a complete form of ancient civilization left inside.

The golem that went in never came out, and the door closed slowly after about thirty minutes. I then saw how it was going for another hour or so, but there was no particular movement.

We discussed it and decided to check the door for now.

Because of the probable demonic trap, it is up to me and Mr. Kitley to look into it, and the other five are supposed to be alert to the surroundings and our blind spots in the woods.

Approaching carefully where the door was in the form I preceded. The forest was interrupted about ten meters from the cliff, and I approached the cliff by declaring to Mr. Kitley, "I will go first".

The cliffs are made of yellowish white rocks, with no particular anomalies found. I try to concentrate on feeling the power of the Spirit, but I didn't feel any particular flow.

After reaching the rock that was the door and checking once, I call Mr. Kitley by invitation.

"You don't seem to have a trap. Still, you can barely see the connection when you get so close."

Mr. Kitley nodded at my words, too, "Right. I've never seen a solid ruin so far," he said somewhat excitedly.

She will carefully check the vicinity of the door. And I started checking one spot intensively. It hits next to the door, just ahead of the Golem was unleashing its magic.

"There's a magic trick hidden here. You're going to use magic here to authenticate. Still, I don't know how you're hiding it, it doesn't look like you've embedded it..."

Mumbling to himself, he goes further into the investigation.

I had nothing more to do and I was on guard around.

At that time, I found something glowing before I looked up. It just hit the cliff and the rock was in a small hiccup.

I cautioned Mr. Kitley, who was immersed in the investigation, "There's something on top of that." She stares at the place where I pointed her finger and mutters, "You're a demon prop..."

When I said, "Shall I see it?" I nodded a little after thinking about it.

I tell the Liddies there's no danger in my hand sign, and I climb up the cliff. When I climbed the rock when I did so under rock climbing procedures, there was an embedded black demonic crystal stone about two cm in diameter.

The magic crystal stone was stunning, and I remembered my sense of vision.

(This position and lens shaped making. Don't feel like a surveillance camera... because maybe the “something” in here is looking at us...)

Although there is no evidence, I was convinced that this demonic crystal stone was a surveillance camera. But I wasn't sure how to explain that to Mr. Kitley.

The Liddies know my secrets, but Mr. Kitley doesn't. I decided to explain it in a somewhat vague way.

"It doesn't seem dangerous. But I felt something like a gaze. He's watching over us with that, I feel like that..."

Mr. Kitley nodded, "Yes..." and said, "It feels like you're watching... ah! I say," Stuck in words.

Because at the end of her gaze, where the Golem was casting its magic was shining a pale light.
