Dream Life

Lesson 65: The Essential

Tria Calendar September 28, 2017.

The morning of the fourth day I started looking for distillery construction candidate sites.

Even today, small grains of rain are falling from under thicker and thicker clouds. Not so much the main descent, but just on the third day, the muddy streets are terrible.

Until yesterday I went from Ars, the king's capital, to see villages along the mountains on the south and north sides, or Kelsas Mountains, but today I decided to change my mind and tour the villages on the west side.

Going west from Ars will take you towards the Great River Fatas River. It's quite close to the source, but because of the different size of the rivers in Japan, they have quite a bit of water.

I'm not going to make it to the Fatas River today, but I'm narrowing it down to about two hours each way.

It rains about as little as a foggy bran rain, but if you're still not wearing a waterproof cloak, the inside gradually gets wet. Around the end of September, not so cool temperatures, but rather depressed by the high humidity and the cloak you've worn.

Today's destination is a village about 10 km west of Ars. There are several settlements along the way, but due to their small size, we plan to go bare.

After showing his face to the blacksmiths first thing this morning, he left.

The investigation continues empty, but the martial arts are progressing well and will definitely be completed by the time we leave Ars. On the contrary, the blacksmiths' motivation is sobering and the momentum is likely to be completed before the moon changes.

Everyone's morale, including the escorts, is not very high due to the rain and the unsavory results achieved until yesterday. Still getting in the mood and heading into today's investigation.

The road west of Ars is slowly downhill, but because of the hills everywhere, the road was not a constant downhill and was up and down again and again.

Beyond some hills, you can see a fairly wide meadow.

At first, I thought it was a grazing area, but there was no livestock being grazed, and it felt like tall grass could be stretched all you want.

I just walked into the path in the meadow and found out why the grazing had not taken place.

(I see... it shouldn't be grazing...)

This wasn't a meadow, it was a wetland.

That's also a pretty wide wetland, about 2 km to the north and south, about 1 km to the east and west. Surrounded by hills, it cannot be said that the terrain is like a basin.

A settlement is visible on the western edge, and I guess that's the village of today's destination.

There are many small insects flying like mosquitoes because of the wetlands, and I see many black chunks like mosquito columns that have nothing to do with the extent of light rain.

I somehow felt like it was not going to work here either.

First of all, it is likely that the water quality is not good due to wetlands. Since it is not suitable for the cultivation of wheat as a further ingredient, it is necessary to carry the ingredients purposefully to make liquor.

(I've come this far, was it a waste of legs... well, it's a corner so I'll just look at it...)

Slowly continue along the path hung by Kasumi with light rain.

The settlement, which gradually became clear, was on a gentle hillside slope, with every house surrounded by stone walls and wooden fences.

I've heard beforehand that the population is about four hundred people and it's not that big a village

As we approach, it gradually becomes clear what the hills look like.

Around a sparse house there are fields of leafy and root-like vegetables, which in this village seem to produce mainly vegetables rather than cereals.

And I found something unusual.

Some of the wetlands are stacked like squares of dirt.

I saw the sight and accidentally let the horse run.

(Maybe... if it's what I think...)

Liddy was surprised that I made the horse run, "What happened! He shouted," Looking back, the face of the distilled liquor escort Scotch Guardians and the Beatrices were at once heightening their vigilance.

I thought I was gone, "No danger! I just want to make sure," he shouted, heading to his destination. Liddy, Mel and Sharon come after us from behind.

When I reached my destination, I jumped off the horse and took what was there.

"I finally found it. I absolutely need this."

What I had in my hand was a consolidation of mud mixed with half decaying grass.

Yes, what I found is peat. I mean, it's called Pete's fuel.

Peat with an essential smoky aroma for Scotch.

I searched near the village of Rasmore, but found nothing at all, and even in the academic city of Doctus, to some extent it was used on the sea side of the Kingdom of Sartooth in the north, and very little was used near the central part of the Tria continent.

Peat is like grass coaled, and is used as a fuel and soil modifier. I remember, but after the plants wither, they can deposit faster than the microbes degrade. As a result, microbial activity should have been more frequent in inactive cold areas. I have a subtle feeling that the area is cold, but due to the high altitude, I heard it is quite cold in the winter.

When I was happily holding a chunk of peat in my hand, Liddy said, "What's wrong? Suddenly," he hears in a slightly thorny voice.

"It's the peat Pete I was looking for, this is it. I finally found it..."

I didn't see anything around me then. When I got back to the inn, Liddy and Beatrice preached tough, but at that time I was up for finding Pete, and I didn't realize the Liddies were worried.

"With this, Scotch would do better. How shall I carry it? More than that, can you sell this..."

Whimpering about that, it seems everyone has arrived at me.

Scott is carrying a carriage, he stands beside me, and he whispers, "This is the example…" So I finally see around me, too. I notice everyone but Scott looking at me with a frightened face.

I have a bad one, laughing to deceive,

"Oh, this is Pete. No, maybe it should. I've only seen dry stuff before, too. I still don't know if it really is..."

I whispered that to Scott, but I saw Isla Island in the book - Scotch's famous place. Featuring smoky flavors, you can pick a lot of peats - it looks just like the picture in, and I'm sure of it.

"This is what Master Zach said about" Smokey "Scotch..."

Scott was orgasming his face and holding Pete because he was listening to me, too.

Jack and Johnny, the guild clerks, have interrupted our fearful conversation.

"Is this what you need? It just looks like mud, though?

When Johnny said that, Jack, who grew up in Ars, murmured, "I'm sure it's supposed to fuel..."

"This is poor quality fuel and they want smoke all over the house when they use this. Besides, I heard that if you use this, the barley will stink..."

I shake my head, say, "This is absolutely necessary," then grab Jack's shoulder.

"I would love for you to send me to the village of Rasmore. I don't need that much... I'll talk to Scott later, but can you manage to negotiate with this village?"

Though surprised by my momentum, Jack nodded loudly,

"If Master Zacharias says so, I'm sure it's what you need. I'll take care of it. We'll make sure you get the amount you need."

Although Jack doesn't understand why he needs it, he was motivated by the fact that he needed me and Scott.

Later I actually burned the dried product and checked it, and the unique aroma came in. I never smelled real Pete's scent, but I'm pretty sure it's what I was looking for.

Where I settle down, I go inside the village.

By then, there were a bunch of villagers who noticed us.

"We were commissioned by the Blacksmith Guild! Looking for a candidate to make a new booze…"

When Jack declares so as usual, a village-like figure appears and bows his head sorry that there is no big brewery in this village and few ingredients make it difficult. If you ask me why because I've been pretty low on my hips from the start, they say the main customers of vegetables and livestock here are the Dwarves, and they're always good customers who buy them at high prices.

It does look like a field of potato-like root vegetables and a field of cabbage, enough to remind me of the country of barley wine (Germany) when it comes to potatoes and cabbage, so I don't think it's strange for the Dwarves to buy it. Furthermore, there are many quality pigs here, and they have it stuffed with intestines (sausages) and bought by the guild.

"The Dwarves don't think our village liquor fits their mouths... and the craftsmen of this village have just taken their place... yet, we can't sell barley liquor to the Dwarves like they sometimes fail..."

Convenient stories come out one after another.

(If we could build a distillery in this village, we might be able to have a characteristic scotch like "Ira"... Pete doesn't seem to be seen at his feet if he asks through his blacksmith guild either...)

They would then show the brewery, but, as the village chief put it, the young craftsmen, not even thirty, were encouraging the brewing. A veteran craftsman who had partitioned until then suddenly fell ill, so quickly, the young craftsmen joined forces to carry on the trail, he said.

As negotiations proceeded, although there were a number of issues, such as the procurement of quality fuel and the location of storage facilities, the craftsmen showed interest in new liquor, distilled liquor, and went so well that some said they wanted to go to the village of Rasmore for training.

Ultimately it was up to the artisans here to decide whether to build a distillery here at the end of their training.

As for the peat Pete, too, the blacksmith guild assumed responsibility for transportation, which meant it was to be obtained fairly cheaply.

The following September 29th.

A survey of the forest at the mountain hem was to be carried out, mainly in the gorges within a few km of Ars.

Until yesterday the rain pattern clears like a lie, and the high blue skies characteristic of autumn cover the heavens.

Today it will be on foot travel because the forest is the Lord. For this reason, he leaves early in the morning without showing his face to the blacksmith.

Dangerous woods meant that just the six of us (Zack Sextet) decided to look for a candidate. Guild chief Ulrich has been there when he put the distilled liquor escort Scotch Guardians on the escort, but he says no because it's safer for six people to work with.

Based on information from Alliance officials, it was decided to retrace the river about two km south of Ars. The information said that the forest is relatively flat and easy to build roads and that there are small waterfalls when you go into the forest and go back about 2 km upstream, which is a story that says the water quality is good for water-rich partitions.

In sunny weather, for the first time in a long time acting on foot, sweat erupts quickly. But when you go into the woods, it's full of refreshing air hung with blur and sumptuous "blushes" because of the rain until yesterday, which makes you forget the heat.

There are many large trees like the one in the trees, reminding us of the forests of the village of Rasmore, but there are darker signs of demons and beasts here.

In fact, he has been attacked several times by giant spiders Giant Spider, Forest Wolf, and Mushroom Demon (Fongs). Of course, it's not a big enemy, it's magically knocking it down before it approaches.

The Kersus Mountains are not as famous as the Aquila Mountains, but if you go up there, there are many dragons, and even in the middle belly, there are dangerous places where demons such as the third-degree equivalent of Fire Dragon Salamander, the fourth-level equivalent of Cocatrice and Manticore appear. Exactly at the foot and around the most vigilant King's Capital, they say such powerful demons rarely come out, but they can't be alarmed.

Going back to a gorge about five meters wide, but not so steep, he arrived at the waterfall, which is his destination in about two hours.

That was a fantastic place covered in fog.

The waterfall is about four or five meters short, but the water is abundant and there is a fine splash of "mist" around. The surrounding trees contrasted with the luminous greenery and the red leaves that had just begun, making them even feel divine.

I'll try to draw the waterfall water into the glass, but the turbidity is perfectly clear and the water quality seems fine. I actually tried to include it in my mouth, but it didn't taste bitter or edgy, and the hardness was impeccable.

(About 2 km from the street. I don't think it would be so much of a problem if we made our way, but how far will the demons go? Well, if the Blacksmith Guild were to partition, they'd hire good mercenaries like the Scotch Guardians... and most importantly, they have plenty of water. And wood. If we cut through this neighborhood, a settlement of about a few dozen people would soon be able to do it...)

Then as we surveyed the woods, there was plenty of spring water and by the way there was a spring. Looks like volatile water is gushing out of the Kelsas Mountains.

(If you build a distillery in this forest, don't increase the efficiency of transportation. I don't know the name of this river, but if you take the name of the river and say "somehow side”, maybe it would be nice...)

I was wondering if we could make this place like the famous “Speyside” along the River Spey in Scotland, that is, where Scotch distilleries gather.

Reporting the results of this investigation to Ulrich,

"You're going to build a distillery along that river... good. That neighborhood is definitely under royal jurisdiction. Then it would be no problem for us to open it. As long as Kati stays, the royal family and nobles won't be able to say anything..."

Unlike Japan and Europe in the past, Kaizen is encouraged in every country in this world. This is a different way of thinking about the “forest” thing. On Earth, forests are a land of grace that gives us resources, and even around the Middle Ages, we could not have opened them on our own. But the perception of forests in this world is “where there are dangerous demons” and actively cutting through forests will widen the human survival zone. Especially in the sparsely populated Kaum kingdom, they cut open forests, while also crusading demons and tax exemptions.

This time I wondered if I was bored by the fact that it was a royal jurisdiction, but as long as there was a hold on the Queen, there seemed to be no problem.

Later I learned that the name of this river is the Slay River.

By the way, it's a village with peat, but it's called Bow Village, and the wetlands where peat can be picked are named Bow Wetlands (Moore). It seems the people nearby pronounce it “Bowmua”.

I was searching for a distillery candidate. In the meantime, without even knowing that the gear of destiny is moving heavily.
