Dream Life

Lesson 36: Finding Distillery Candidates

The morning of January 30th.

The fog has been pouring in since the early morning. It was well sunny last night, so it cooled with radiation cooling, and the fog seems to be pouring in from the Seawell River.

Dan and Sharon headed to the Imperial capital Plymouth with the dawn. Dan is removing the cloak with the Lockhart family crest and replacing it with a brown regular cloak. It is usually a camouflage cloak when entering the woods, but I make it normal because it stands out.

Sharon has also completely changed his style of adventurer, looking like a small adventurer in the long run. However, due to her elegant face and luxurious equipment, she may not look like the patronage of the noble lady. For once, I cautioned, but she also fully understands that she stands out.

"I'll put on the hood of my cape whenever I can. Don't worry, I'll take care not to be alone in the inn."

I didn't say anything more because Sharon is confident, but I'll remind Dan to pay attention again.

"I don't think you'll be attacked in the streets, but always be mindful of the possibility of getting tangled up in inns and cafeterias. I don't expect a guy who can beat Dan to get involved in vain, but if it comes down to it, you can name Lockhart. I asked for it."

"I'll take care of it," he nodded.

"I think it's probably okay. 'Cause it looks like a young man on the run is going to raise a flag."

That's what I said and laughed, leaving Seawell Castle.

I am scheduled to go around the distillery construction candidate with Viscount Radford and others today.

Members of the Lockhart family are me, Liddy, Beatrice, Mel, and Luna.

My father and brother are to receive lectures from the Marquis of Seawell on the liturgy and aristocratic connections at the ceremony of the Duke at the Imperial Palace.

The same was true of my mother, who was to be tapped into her courtesy as a lady by the Marquis of Seawell, the Viscount of Radford, and even the Lawrencians.

My mother listened to what she needed to learn, dropped her shoulder disappointingly, and zeroed, "I can't remember this much."

My brothers were supposed to attend training for the Imperial Army stationed with Sims and their squire.

Because of this, I have no place for Luna and she is supposed to be with us, but I think she is just fine because she has been able to communicate a lot in the last few days.

After breakfast, Bernard Dulnton, the head of distillery construction, gave a description of the construction candidate.

"We decided on several candidates in the village of Rasmore, referring to Sir Zacharias, Lord Scott, who taught us whether it was suitable for storing barrels, whether it was easy to transport raw materials and whether the water was abundant. Today you will see the village on the east side of the Seawell River…"

The candidate is located on both banks of the Seawell River and travels more than fifty kilometres when all turns in a day. This is because there is only a bridge near the city of Seawell to cross the river, once north, back to the city of Seawell and again to become a route called north.

For that reason, I was supposed to look around today on the east side and tomorrow on the west side.

There are about eight candidate locations, but we plan to decide where to build them first. However, in the future, the distillery will be made in more than five locations, so we will also hit that candidate location and consider the means of solving the problem.

Although it is not easy to ship in the description of Dalungton, I have not forgotten this, because I have been able to confirm that no point is a problem.

A route that transports from the Marquis of Seawell territory to Teito and Ezarrington, a large consumer, but uses the Seawell River, not land transport. This is the same as the shipping route for Seawell wine.

The Seawell River, but not the biggest river on the Tria continent, like the Fatas River or the Fannel River, which flows through the eastern part of the Empire, has abundant water but few rapids. Also, I don't know if it's because it's not a great river or because there are few rapids, but there are no large aquatic demons like Sarpent and they are relatively safe.

Because it flows from east to west, westerly winds are available not only downward, but also retroactively, making it suitable for water transport.

The topography is steeper upstream than most near the city of Seawell and is not suitable for water transport. For this reason, it is only used to ship wine from the Marquis of Seawell.

The Seawell River is also supposed to be used for brandy shipments, and if it's a riverside village with vineyards, there's no problem distilling it anywhere.

"Today we invite you to visit the villages of Bruick, Kardam, Solsgis and Kleiteymore. Tomorrow we will be visiting the villages of Dwarry, Craig, Moulin and Blair…"

The village of Crytaimore is roughly twelve kilometers away, but we will also visit the village's brewery further ahead. Visit the village brewery along the way, but the aim is to choose for yourself the wine that will be given five barrels a year.

I didn't intend to ketch on anything else to be given, so I could have had it chosen by the Seawell family, but Viscount Radford told me, "I wonder if Lord Beatrice would be happier if Lord Zacharias chose it".

"I'm not going to say this to the gift either, but as Ignacious said, I'm glad Zach picked it out."

Beatrice blushes in embarrassment after saying so. If you say so, I can't say no, and I'm happy to be the one to try the wines of the various villages. As a result, it was decided to look around the main winemaking villages.

I leave at 9: 00 a.m. The Seawell family side is accompanied by Viscount Radford, two civilians and five escort knights in addition to Dalungton.

We will soon pass the village of Widial, which we visited yesterday, in order for everyone to travel by ride. About twenty minutes after his departure, he arrived at the village of Bruick, his first destination.

The village of Bruik is about three kilometers north of the city of Seawell and about two kilometers from Widial. In the meantime there was also a small village, but the wine was not made, so it is bare.

The village of Bruick is located in a relaxed hilly area, with vineyards continuing from the banks of the River Seawell.

The village is a little smaller than the village of Rasmore and has a population of about five hundred. Most of the agricultural land has become vineyards, to some extent fields that make vegetables for themselves, and here again, wheat, which is the staple food, is not made.

The settlement is between the hills, with beautiful streams flowing. A water wheel is installed in that river, just like the village of Widial, and the water is pumped up.

About twenty villagers waited in front of the brewery-like building.

Going down the horse and moving forward in front of the villagers with Viscount Radford, a man of about sixty has hung a welcome word.

"Welcome to Bruick"

Viscount Radford introduced me as a village chief, and after an exchange of greetings, when I deposit my horse with the villagers, I immediately head to the construction candidate site.

The candidate has close water resources between the hills and behind the brewery. The sun is poor due to the shade on the north slope of the hill, and there are some fields where vegetables are made.

It's about a hundred meters wide.

"It will be this place. It's not sunny, it's not suitable for fields, but the water is abundant, and I don't think it's a problem with the size..."

This other raw wine and its squeezing is also easy to obtain from nearby villages, and fuelled coal can be taken relatively close by.

Coal, by the way, but produce relatively much in the southern part of the Tria continent. Especially in the Wale Peninsula, where there is a lot of quality coal to pick, so little firewood is used. The Wale Peninsula is rich in food, water and fuel, which can be said to support the population of the Empire.

"Building a distillery seems fine in itself. However, it just seems difficult to expand the reservoir, is it possible to build a reservoir nearby?

Given the distillation facilities and the temporary storage of raw materials in today's space, a large reservoir cannot be built so much. Looking around, the vineyards widened and it did not look like there was a place where the reservoir could be built.

"That's true," said Darunton to my inquiry, checking with the village chief to see if there's a candidate nearby.

In the meantime, I was looking around again.

(The vineyards are huge, but not so many livestock. If you want to make a marl type, squeeze it and dispose of it will be a problem...)

A marl type is a brandy made from the extraction of alcohol from the squeeze of wine. Compared to the Fine type distilling wine, waste squeezing occurs in large quantities, which makes its treatment problematic. In the village of Rasmore, combined with the pressing of malt, which is the raw material of Scotch, we feed pigs and cattle, but it doesn't feel like there are many livestock here in the village of Brook.

"They say there's a forest about a kilometer around the hill, but there's no road, and as things stand, it's hard to transport."

"The reservoir can be near the city of Seawell, so it won't be a big problem, but it's waste disposal, right? Are there many cattle and pigs around here?"

"That's not much around here. A little further north, or south of the city of Seawell, there are many villages that I own."

In consultation with Viscount Radford and others, the village was to be a candidate stop.

I was to try the wine at the brewery before I left.

As soon as they enter the brewery, the craftsmen hand them glasses for tasting.

received it. Viscount Radford, in the light of day,

"Is the wine in this village a good grape tree or quite dark colour? Especially this year, I'm wondering if it could be better than last year..."

The Viscount said he goes around all the villages every year to see the flavor, and was satisfied with what he did this year.

Upon receiving the glass and checking the colour in the same way, a beautiful purple colour similar to that of the dark purple crystal Amethyst spreads the aroma of intense grapes when it is included in the mouth. It felt slightly sour, but as the Viscount put it, it was a pretty good wine to make.

"It's delicious. For being a new wine, I still have the balance between acidity and aroma, but I prefer the strength of the flavor and the fruit fragrance to that of Widial village. It's just the right wine to go with the dishes."

"What about long-term aging?," the Viscount asked.

My impression is that the grapes are close to Merlot for some long-term maturation. However, it is slightly doubtful when asked whether it would be as suitable for long-term ageing as Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon, but it could have tasted good enough for about a decade.

"I don't know unless you try, but isn't it pretty good"

After the village of Bruik in about an hour, we inspect the villages of Kardam, two kilometres away, and Solsgis, five kilometres away, but there were still some shortcomings in the feeling that it was one long and one short.

(It's a good enough condition compared to the village of Rasmore, but don't really think of it as a better place...)

While having lunch in the village of Solsgis, it was decided to check the results of previous inspections with the Viscounts of Radford.

As Darnton looks at the note at hand, he explains each gain or loss.

"The village of Bruick has no problems with water, raw materials, but problems have been pointed out regarding storage space and waste disposal. The village of Kardam has plenty of space in the distillery, but good water cannot be secured. The village of Solsgis has also pointed to water problems, but this one feels somewhat more promising than the village of Kardam."

Viscount Radford touched his jaw and said, "You can't find the perfect spot right from the start," and then he checked with me.

"So far, I guess this is the most powerful place, Lord Zacharias."

"Yes, this village would be the most promising if it were in three places so far. Most importantly, none of the villages have better conditions than the village of Rasmore, so it's not suitable for building distilleries."

"But there's no Lord Zacharias or Lord Scott here. As far as I'm concerned, I want to keep the risk of failure as low as possible."

After talking like that, Beatrice whines boso as she sips wine from the village of Solsgis.

"This wine smells strange. Not that it doesn't taste bad, but I feel like it smells different..."

All I can smell is red wine with dark eyes.

"Really? Don't you feel that for me?

"Oh, I just feel a little bit too. I wish I could say it as well as you... you see, spices and all... it feels a little sweet and stiff... right, you smell like cloves"

Clove is also known as Chiko, a spice that smells like numbness in the sweet. It is commonly used in meat dishes and is also used in the village of Rasmore.

I hear clove and try to taste it carefully again.

(It's a dark red wine, for sure... but it feels very berry-like. You just don't get it until Clove...)

I was hooked on the word "clove”.

(I wonder what it was?... right! It's Cabernet! There must have been a clove in the expression spice. I don't know if this is Cabernet, but maybe a closer variety of grapes is used. Then try to put him to sleep and he could turn!

My memories are good, but I've been into wine for a while, and I drink quite a bit of good Bordeaux wine. Most of Bordeaux's good red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, and I somehow remember Sommelier using the expression clove.

(Maybe it's a mistake, but there are still different varieties of grapes...)

I decided to get a barrel of wine here because it is good enough to make itself and is a fully delicious wine.
