Dream Life

Episode XIII: The Consequences of the Punishment War

May 28th.

The impact of the raid in Roguedale also subsided, and the Lockhart family continued their journey smoothly, successfully arriving in the eastern region's main city of Ealdred.

I pay a respectful visit to Count Aldred, the Eastern Governor, where I can teach him great news.

That was the result of the war in Luke.

■ ■ ■

Leaving Imperial Capital and Ezarrington in early March, the Second and Fourth Regiments arrived in the front-line city of Lark Hill on April 23.

On April 28th, a substantial commander, Duke Alexis Ezarrington, leads a second legion led by Crown Prince Gigismund, leads Lark Hill to launch an invasion inside Lukes with 15,000 troops from the Northern Governor's Office.

Meanwhile, in Luke's Holy Kingdom, the congregation headquarters of the Light Divine Church took centre stage, preparing for a massive interception battle.

The collected strength is 100,000, with the Commander-in-Chief at the head of the Holy Knights, the Holy General Gaspare Montemenzi.

Breakdown of 100,000 troops, but 50,000 for peasant militias, the main force of Lukes, 25,000 for professional servicemen, 20,000 for the Holy Knights, and 5,000 for clergy of the Church.

Peasant militia, but they're just miscellaneous soldiers with crude spears and easy protective gear.

It is said to be the dominant force because of its high number, but if we do not use drugs called "the blood of the God of Light (Lucidus)," the elite of the Empire will only be killed in the opponent.

The troops of the Secular Knight are the true mainstay of the Holy King's Army.

Knights and submissive knights possess the skills to cross each other with Cavalry of the Caerm Empire, and the infantry, the submissive, are also adequately trained as regular soldiers.

Only a few thousand or so have gathered in previous battles, but this time the pressure of the Church is strong, with most of the mobilizeable knights marching out.

The Holy Knights are a group of cavalry capable of using magic, a force that was feared as a powerful force in the early days of Luke's nation. However, due to the depravity that is common in the privileged class, there is now only a degree of ability: a magic soldier who can travel on horses.

Still, its mobility was insulting and threatened to bring confusion even to the elite of the Imperial Army when it was used for side attacks.

The group of priests are priests from the sacrament to the bishop class, and they are made up of relatively young people from the twenties to the early thirties at their age. There are also abilities as healers, but many are personally aggressive and often use light attribute magic to carry out ranged attacks.

Some high-ranking magicians are above level fifty, and while range-attack magic can damage dozens of people, on average most magicians can withstand battles from the second half of twenty to the first half of thirty. At this level, archers of the same level are more powerful and cannot be expected to have significant results.

Even more troublesome was the chunk of privileged consciousness, a presence that, together with the Holy Knights, interfered with the command of the Holy King's Army.

It is the Holy General Montemenzi who sums up these troops, but having emerged by home, he was not in a situation where a decent command could be exercised, as he had only counted his experiences on the battlefield and the Tabernacle had also been consolidated with the Holy Knight and the clergy.

The matter is exposed under daylight shortly after leaving the Holy City of Paxlumen.

I couldn't even make a decent march within my own safe country and didn't reach 10 km (Kimmel) where my day's travel distance was less than half of my planned.

Forced to respond to it, Montemenzi leaves the commander of the Secular Knight, Gaius Mercadante, in command during his march.

Mercadante was a knight of war and the more his name was known to the Imperial Army, the better the army went since he came to take command.

The Holy King's Army deploys to Abadzac, a major shock east of the Sole Peninsula, to intercept the Imperial Army.

Mercadante insisted on intercepting it at the exit of the Duer Bay north of it, not Abadzac, but Montemenzi refused to do so.

Mercadante's claims were strategically sufficiently convincing.

Indeed, Abadzac is an imperial-era fortified city and has sufficient defense. However, because it is a standard fortified city, there is only one km square, and not a hundred thousand large armies can be castled. For this reason, the Holy King's Army set up a formation on the plain on the north side of Abadzac, where it had to intercept.

The Duer on the other hand has only a narrow street through the deep woods, a terrain that the cavalry, the main force of the Imperial Army, does not like. Mercadante laid here a vertical and deep formation centered on peasant militias, secular Knights infantry and clergy, proposing measures to force the Imperial Army to bleed.

Horse fences, spears and uphill are the favourable conditions, and if his proposal were adopted, none of us would have made it easy to break through, even the famous Lord Ezzarington. It was also difficult to deploy to a plain where the cavalry could be active if intercepted at the exit of the cavalry, even if it could be broken through, and it was likely to fit each destruction concern.

This is what Montemenzi said and disagreed with this Mercadante measure.

"This one is three times the enemy. You just have to beat it grandiose. Besides, can't the people see our work in the woods like that? It is only in this position, visible from Abadzac, that the people can recognise themselves as the Son of God. '

At this time, Montemenzi was thinking about the post-war period. He was second only to the Archbishop in the Church and was also related to Silvano II, the top saint of the secular. He chased down the current Archbishop, who was unfriendly with the Holy King, and was after the seat of the next Archbishop.

Of course, cardinals of his kind exist. But they cannot command the army and they cannot achieve flashy results. It was only natural to think that the next Archbishop's seat would be his if he made great strides in this battle, gained even more momentum and attacked even Lark Hill, defeating the Imperial Crown Prince.

He considered it effective to show it to his rival, the Cardinal, Marino Perdisa, who is serving for it.

Mercadante pressed for a translation by saying, 'Sure victory is the greatest feat', but Montemenzi believed the victory was unwavering in the number of triples, and did not adopt Mercadante's measures.

Also, during the last invasion of the Third Legion led by Prince Leopold, many Beastly Slave Troops bothered the Imperial Army by backward agitation and scouting hunts, but little was done this time.

Sometimes Montemenzi hated palliative means about this, but the fact that the Beastman Slave Squad was less powerful than he could have imagined has affected him.

Lord Ezarrington took the streets in vigilance of Operation Guerrilla by the Beastman Slave Unit and crossed the Duer on May 9.

He said he proceeded carefully and saw the enemies unfolding from its top to Abadzac, convinced of the victory.

'The enemy has given us the opportunity to be active! It is the Saint Knights that can be seen in the central rear. There's the Holy General Montemenzi over there! Take him and bring victory to the Empire!

The general and the famous Lord Ezarrington shouted with rarity and excitement. In fact, the soldiers who were in the service think the same thing, raising the ambition of victory.

The formation of the Imperial Army that went down the Duir and deployed on the plains north of Abadzac was as follows:

On the far left were five thousand cavalry of the army of the northern governor's office, ten thousand infantry of the army of the northern governor's office to its right, and further ten thousand infantry of the fourth legion to the right, and ten thousand cavalry of the third legion, the main force on the far right, had created a horizontal formation.

The opposing Holy King's Army is 50,000 peasant militia in the center. Seven thousand and five hundred secular knights on both wings. The secular knights have two thousand and five hundred cavalry on the outside, and five thousand infantry on the inside. It was a heavy one with 20,000 Saint Knights and 5,000 clergy troops placed behind the peasant militia.

Around 8 a.m. on May 10, the curtain of battle was cut and dropped.

It was the Holy King's Army that took the lead.

Montemenzi forced the peasant militia to storm 10,000. It is the Imperial Army spear soldiers who intercept them, but behind them three thousand archers are holding off, and as soon as they are in range, they begin firing.

Peasant militias with only leather torso armor and crude helmets are defeated one after the other by the arrows unleashed by the Imperial Army. But the peasant militia's legs never stopped. Because I knew if I ran away, I'd be shot in magic by a priest in the rear.

The assault of the peasant militias' death reached the Imperial Army, but only served as food for the powerful Imperial Spear Soldiers in the squadron that was turned into a Zutazz.

Seeing the tragic defeat of the first line, Montemenzi ordered the peasant militia to storm before attacking to envelop the secular knighthood army on both wings.

Lord Ezarrington was waiting for it. He ordered the cavalry of the Imperial Army to attack further from the outside.

Overwhelmed by the number of cavalry, the Imperial Army swallowed the cavalry of the secular Knights at once. Especially on the right wing of the Imperial Army, where there is an eightfold difference in power, the elite of the Third Legion slashes and rips the Holy King's Army to go deserted wilderness.

The secular Knights infantry that was inside of it had to stop. He tried to take a dense formation against the Imperial Army cavalry, but failed to keep up with the cavalry's mobility and remained in a halfway formation, causing a total collapse.

This determined the battle.

The cavalry unit of the third legion was attacked by the Saints, ignoring the peasant militia. Even this period the commanders of Montemenzi and the Holy Knights were unable to respond properly and could only intercept them comically.

Though the Saints emit arrows of light, they could not even measure their range and had little effect. Montemenzi, who was furthermore in the rear, panicked and tried to escape to Abadzac, when the Saints struck an avalanche and collapsed.

Cardinal Perdisa, a military superintendent, was at the rearmost and had begun his retreat before Montemenzi escaped. He ordered the guards to close the castle gate as he fled into Abadzac.

"Close the gate! The brave Saints will necessarily hammer down upon the Empire! We have to protect Abadzac so they can fight without fear of hindsight!

The soldier guarding the gate to the word had to close the castle gate.

Before the closed castle gate, the Saints who lost their way were the same sheep who fled before the wolves. They are driven around by the cavalry units of the Third Regiment and the army of the Northern Governor's Office, which are taken over one after the other.

More than a battalion captain, especially in luxurious armor, was persistently targeted, and the Saints' chain of command collapsed completely.

Mercadante, who was on the right wing, was fighting the cavalry of the army of the northern governor's office. His troops were the only ones to keep order in the Holy King's Army, but instead of the seven thousand and five hundred on the right wing, they were not even given command of the two thousand and five hundred cavalry, and only a thousand cavalry, direct reports, were in his hands.

For this reason his troops, although fighting well, could not overshadow the course of defeat.

Lord Ezzarington, who decided that a large number of people had decided, feared that the enemy would become a stranded rat, opening his way against the secular Knights Army and the peasant militia.

Mercadante heads to the rescue of the Holy Knights while secular Knights Army and peasant militias are allowed to escape while securing their exit. He thought he'd be held accountable if he ran away.

Mercadante, along with his immediate men, stormed towards the elite of the Fourth Corps.

Around that time, the elite Fourth Corps was also alarmed by the overwhelming victory. They were hunting down saints and clergy to do even in hunting, and handled them one after the other. As a result, the original formation had collapsed and a large gap had formed on the sides.

Mercadante's cavalry, which kept order there, broke in and the Fourth Corps suffered more damage than it had ever suffered before.

Lord Ezarrington gave orders to each regimental leader to step back temporarily. Mercadante entered that gap and decided to buy the Saints time to escape.

But the Saints' movements were dull. He stood comically in front of the enemy and showed no signs of movement.

Of course, they didn't stop with the intention of fighting. I simply couldn't think of a place to escape and couldn't move my legs.

Abadzac's fortress in front of him closes the gate firmly and will not open up no matter how many calls he makes. For this reason, we have no choice but to begin our defeat towards the south, but beyond that there was an disorderly group of peasant militias.

The knight in command of the peasant militia had been taken away and defeated while lending his shoulders to his wounded companions.

The Holy Knights defeat those wounded peasant militias as they kick in. The peasant militia was slaughtered and killed by an ally, the Holy Knight, and hung on his hoof and died.

The Saints were obsessed with fleeing themselves and had no awareness that they were killing allies. I just thought we were getting rid of the obstacle.

A cavalry of the northern governor's office attacked there.

At this time, Baron Manfred Braceford, head of the First Knights of the Northern Governor's Office Army, was in command of the cavalry. He became angry with the Holy Knight as he proceeded to kill his allies out of a sense of justice before him, and attacked them thoroughly.

The Sacred Knights are also limited to shielded peasant militias and are taken over one after the other. Among them was the Holy General Montemenzi, who, shortly before being taken over, offered to surrender by throwing down his weapon without shame or outrage.

But the soldiers of the Northern Governor's Office did not make such a one-sided plea of his, but slaughtered him with multiple spears.

Upon being informed that he has taken over the Holy General, Lord Ezzarington lowers his army without pursuing him. In doing so, he shouted to Abadzak's defensemen:

"The apostles and doings of God, as the fanatics of light divinity call them, are no different than demons that make people unexpected!... you would have seen the Holy Knight try to escape by slashing a soldier who is a believer! You will have seen that the Cardinal who fled earlier abandoned his allies and closed the castle gate!... As the fanatics say, the God of Light (Lucidus) is the God of Justice! You admit to destroying all those who deceive the name of God!

To put it that way, he recovered the bodies of the wounded and the dead of war and headed towards the Duer.

But this wasn't the end of this battle.

Lord Ezzarington had led mercenaries from the Northern Governor's Office army into the secular Knights Army. After we lose sight of the Imperial Army, Abadzac's castle gate opens and begins to retrieve the wounded. In doing so, the mercenaries are dispersed by soldiers who are lucky enough to survive and infiltrate Abadzac.

And that night Lord Ezarrington launched a night raid.

Let the infiltrated mercenary open the castle gate, and more than 20,000 soldiers fell into an avalanche.

Until now, the Beast Slave Squad was on guard and such an operation was difficult. But Lord Ezarrington decided from his previous battles that there was no Beast Slave Troop and dared to make a bold operation.

The operation was a great success.

The soldiers of the Holy King's Army were wounded and exhausted, and were killed without resisting the Imperial Army soldiers who had infiltrated them in the shade of night.

Mercadante of the secular Knights Army was complaining about the danger of night raids. But at that time he was not in a situation where he could move properly due to his injuries.

Injured in the daytime battle, it was not by Cardinal Perdisa, who tried to make the death of the priest and the Holy Knight his responsibility, that healing magic was applied. Mercadante, just wrapped in a bandage, is captured without the skill of being formed on the bed.

The Imperial Army did not do anything to the inhabitants of the city and headed towards the cathedral of Abadzac. Because we knew there was the most escaped perditha out there.

Lightly occupying the cathedral, the Imperial Army captured Perdisa, who remained in her bedroom. And just like Montemenzi, he begged for his life without shame or outrage.

Lord Ezarrington freed Perditha intact. The Duke sowed the seeds of disbelief inside the Order by letting Perditha flee to the Holy City.

Lord Ezarrington took the Order's treasures and military funds before dawn, leaving Abadzac behind.

The treasures and military funds were enormous and required a wagon hundred kilometers.

In this battle, the ultimate damage to the Holy King's Army was immense.

Half of the Holy Knights have taken over and most of the priests, except those who fled to Abadzac.

Peasant militias survive more than half of them without a decent commander. Still, there were nearly 20,000 war dead.

The damage to the secular Knights Army was relatively insignificant, with about five thousand casualties of war, a third of the total. However, the capture of the famous general Mercadante caused him to lose his function as an army. As a result, he could not afford to pursue the Imperial Army, which would return slowly with a wagon full of treasures.

The damage on the part of the Imperial Army was only about a few percent of all armies, and Abadzac's battle was told to be a historic triumph.

Hearing this information, my father murmured, "Now don't let the Northern Governor's Office settle down either".

"Right. I got a piece faster than I thought. When I thought about the last time, I thought it would take a month just to cross the line. Sometimes the enemy was foolish, but that's the Duke of Ezarrington."

My father agrees with me by saying, "Right."

"But what will happen to Luke in the future"

My father's suspicions were good, and I was thinking the same thing.

"There will probably be a major coup d 'état. Defeat is the responsibility of the Holy King's Office, but it is also the responsibility of the Church, as this time the Holy General is being taken over. It would also greatly affect the unharmed escape of the Cardinal."

The Holy Knights have almost been wiped out, and the priests who marched have died in battle, except for the Cardinals. On the other hand, the secular Knights Army and peasant militias survived by more than half, and this result alone makes it seem that only those belonging to the denominational side fought.

The Archbishop, who has not seen the scene, is likely to pursue the responsibilities of the Holy King's Palace. But since the commander and the tabernacle are out of the church, there is no way that the Holy King's Office side can honestly admit to non-existence either, which would undoubtedly cause a great deal of confusion coupled with its previous tenacity.

"How much confusion do you think will continue?

"That's a difficult question," he answered, thinking a little,

"I was wondering if the confusion would continue for at least three years. It will vary depending on whether the Holy King or the Archbishop have power."

In fact, I don't know how much confusion will continue, but this will make it a little more peaceful.
