Dream Life

Episode 70: Into the Base of the Enemy

The morning of March 29th.

The battle against the Demon General (Archdemon) Ashtal was over, and the wounded were gradually recovering.

Dan, who was the most dangerous situation, but continued to develop high fever, either because of a sore gut. By continuing to hang the healing magic of the image that purifies the blood, we are now calm, but we have not yet regained consciousness.

Meanwhile, Mel, who was bleeding heavily and unconscious, is regaining consciousness after midnight. Because healing magic can't increase blood, it's a situation where you give the nutritious ingredients that were in the storage magic (inventory) and see how it goes.

Mel's recovery managed to come at a glance, but Dan remains in an unforeseeable situation and becomes anxious to make the trip tomorrow morning.

My situation, but my magic has almost recovered. However, mental fatigue remains with the battle against the mighty enemy and the healer's work that follows.

Byron and Guys have also healed almost completely, with only three injured, in addition to Dan and Mel, Nicholas, who lost his left arm. Though that Nicholas also lost his arm, he's not feeling so bad himself.

After the magic returned, I tried to regenerate my arm again, but I still couldn't produce my arm.

"I don't have a choice. I was just lucky I didn't lose my life."

Nicholas himself says so in a rusty way, but there is no doubt that his ability as a swordsman has been greatly lost.

You got my idea,

"I use a one-handed sword, so you can still fight if you have an arm. And you can work as a civilian or as a teacher."

I'm only saying that naturally, but it's definitely going to be inconvenient.

"I'll try to make a prosthetic hand when I get back to the village. I think we can use the magic team to move a little bit."

"Thank you then," he laughed.

The bodies of Brett and Ricky who died in the war, but after consultation, they were to be buried.

It's possible to bring it back to the village if you put it in my inventory, and I told my grandfather about it.

"Leaving the body for good threatens to be undead. Of course, I know that your magic can slow down time. But you'd better avoid worrying about the survivors."

Bodies left behind by Demonic Crystal Stone are prone to undead. That trend is strong, especially in places where there are many demons like Aquila.

Being undead is synonymous with the fact that the soul is not saved, and will cause further suffering to the bereaved family. My grandfather decided I shouldn't even let him think it was possible.

After breakfast, bury the bodies of Brett and Ricky as they guard their surroundings.

Everyone was present at the burial, except for the watch and Dan.

I magically make the hole that buries the two of you. And my grandfather and brother, I'll put the body away.

"Rockhart family squire, Brett Harts, also Ricky Burton...... he fought well to protect the world. You are the pride of the Lockhart family... my Lockhart family will take care of you responsibly. Rest in peace under the Dark God (Noctis)..."

Brett is thirty-one and Ricky is thirty-three.

I hear from Will Keegan, who binds his squire that they were all building a happy family.

Brett has three children, and Ricky has two.

Especially Ricky was a late marriage to a person in this world, and he had just finally gotten married about five years ago.

Those selected this time, but I am well aware of the danger from before I leave. In fact, they're leaving the village saying everyone, including my grandfather, might not be able to make it back alive.

Naturally, my family would be prepared, but without me, they wouldn't have died.

Brett's youngest is three years old, and Ricky's seems to be three and a year old.

Same goes for me taking only one father from a young child. That presses me against my heart.

"Brett and Ricky traveled under Noctis. But the danger isn't gone yet! Keep your head down and stay on guard!

My grandfather in the war had already changed his mind. On the other hand, I envy you, and I also feel like that's okay.

Liddy held me tight to see if that happened to my face.

"It's not your fault. They died fighting for their families, fighting for their people. Remember that. I think that's the best support for the deceased."

"Right. If I repent here, they won't come back to life. I can't break it off, but I'm gonna make sure I don't drag you down now."

After completing the burial of the two, my grandfather assembled key members for an operational meeting.

"As we decided last night, we will not challenge the pitch-black demons to battle. However, this situation cannot be left unattended. I'll get rid of this place tomorrow morning, but I'll have Zach and Guy head for that cave."

So I look around everyone and go on with the words.

"It is naturally conceivable that the enemy will strike by then. The only trap Zach has already made is from the retreat aisle. That trap doesn't even work on Ashtal..."

The trap we created for the escape passage is a simple one of using inclination to roll rock spheres. Murder is weaker than the entry-side aisle trap, something that doesn't work at all for the pitch-black Demons.

"... and not enough time and magic to rebuild the base now. Furthermore, Zach affirmed that he could not do anything that would work for him. So I want to talk to you about what to do if the Black Demon Clan raids you."

So far, the Dark Demons have never shown themselves. I don't know if I can't move due to any circumstances, or if I'm not around here already, but it's too dangerous to expect them not to attack me.

That's why my grandfather tried to set the policy.

"First, we have to tell the Adventurers Guild, the Kingdom of Lax and the Kingdom of Kaum about this situation. Rod takes Enos and Sims and leaves by the end of the day."

"That's not much, old man!" My brother raises his voice in protest.

As a brother, I guess you want to stay with me until the end.

"This is an order. Whatever you say, I don't admit to disagreement," it is immediately denied. And when his brother tried to raise his voice, he controlled it with his hands,

"That existence is too dangerous. Someone has to warn me. For that, Rod, the Lockhart family's best man, Enos, the next housekeeper, and Sims, the Imperial Army knight."

"But isn't it a good idea to disperse the power of war," my brother argues.

"It's no use concentrating on that enemy. Besides, the three of you can cut through whether it's demons around here or not. Don't just get ahead of the day. Nong and the others will be right after you."

My grandfather's idea was a dispersion of risk.

"I agree, too. Do what you can to protect the world."

My brother still said something, he said, but he nodded small.

"Okay. But I'll wait at the last base. Because it would be unnatural if we were the only ones back in Riccardale first."

"Right. It is strange that those who carried out dragon exorcisms should return to pieces. I think we should all win."

Now I've almost forgotten, but the pretext for leaving Riccadale was dragon exorcism.

"The next time a pitch-black demon tribe shows up, he stops at Noon, Walt, Byron, Guy, and Hector. Zach, take the rest and pull back as hard as you can."

My grandfather thought there was no chance of victory and has suggested that only veterans lead the way in stopping him.

I'd like to argue with my brother as well, but I give up judging myself right because I'm struggling so hard with a demon general Ashtal who's just a subordinate.

"Copy that. The concern is that the enemy can fly. It is possible that you will ignore your uncles and come to me, so I will also consider me and Liddy and Beatrice becoming even more obsessive. In that case, why don't the uncles withdraw independently, and Sharon leads the way to Riccardale to join his brother?"

Shortly after my grandfather says, "I don't think so," Mel raises her voice.

"I don't like it! Please take me with you!

And Sharon said, "I'll be with you. Because that would buy you a little more time!," he complains desperately.

"No. Besides, this is just about the possibilities. If that happens, this is what we're talking about, not what we're gonna do."

Mel tries to raise his voice even more, but he controls it without his grandfather raising his voice "quietly,"

"I agree with Zach and Sharon. Either one of us has to stay to make future plans."

"Then I..." Mel begins to say,

"If you're sick, it's the other way around. Lydia and Beatrice are better off if you want to run around in the woods. It's unlikely, but the three of us might be able to escape."

Mel is disappointed with the words.

"That's settled. It's a waste of time. Rod must leave immediately."

Did my brother already crack it, "Yes! I said," I started getting ready.

Though I dropped off my brothers, I have nothing to do but be vigilant.

It was not even noon yet and I decided to assign the job to someone other than an injured person who needed to recover his health.

"I exorcised the dragon, so why don't you peel off the ground dragon skin, nails, etc."

"Right. If you have nothing to do, it would be a pleasure to recover the materials of the dragons."

Then under Guy's command, the ground dragon stripping began.

Finish stripping by evening, and further recover material from hydra and four-handed bears. By the way, Cyclops is not without a usable part, but other materials were left out because they are of better quality.

In the evening, Dan finally woke up.

"... Dear Zach? After I said,"

"The battle...... what happened to Mel!" He tried to get up in a hurried tone.

hold his body,

"The Demon General defeated him. Mel is safe," he says, pointing to Mel resting on the side.

"Good......"

That's all I said, I meditated my eyes again. I immediately start to take a nap to see if the effects of high fever have yet to drain out.

"... looks like Dan is back in consciousness too..." he heard in a whispering voice.

"Oh, I'm fine now. All you have to do is take a rest. This is yours, too."

"Yes," he said, meditating his eyes just like Dan's, but "Good," he muttered slightly, with a glimmer of tears flowing from his closed eyelids.

After seeing how you two are doing, I'm going to go to Liddy's.

"I'm coming with you tomorrow," Liddy said.

"That's abrupt," she smiles bitterly, but her expression remained serious.

"If we're gonna die, we're gonna be together."

I laughed at the words, "I'm not dying, either,"

"We just see if we have enemies. Me and Guy can tell by the signs if he's around."

"Still, I'm not gonna let you go alone. Plus, if the enemy strikes, we'll be together. Then we'll be together."

"No, things would be different. You can't survive wherever your enemies come from, but tomorrow you just have to see if they have enemies. Why?"

I convince him to say that and laugh, but with a worrying look on his face,

"But if there's no sign, you're going to cave in. If I had ambushed you..."

Are you anxious? Words don't last till the end.

I flicker my hands and deny, "It's impossible."

"They're absolutely mighty. There's no need to ambush me. Besides, I don't think he's here anymore."

"What makes you think that," Beatrice joins the conversation.

"First of all, it's strange that nothing happened all day today. We defeated most of his power. If you're willing to retaliate, I've already done it. Besides, I know this place, and the first guy can fly. I mean, I could have come anytime I wanted to. If you think about it, it makes sense to think you're nowhere near here."

Beatrice agrees with my words, "Sure you do," but there still seems to be some doubt,

"But there's a line where you can't move, right? Then you might still be here."

"It's certainly possible. But if he's here, you don't have to cave in to find out. You can't possibly feel so much power."

I mean what I'm saying to you both.

I'm not sure, but I think there's a good chance he won't be. There are other reasons for this than what I just said.

For one thing, I didn't come here with Ashtal. If he's going to destroy us, he's better off on his own.

Besides, if you insulted us and left us to Ashtal, it would be odd if we lost the power we gathered and didn't take any action.

Except if you can use all that force to get rid of it, but the only reason Ashtal hasn't returned for more than a day and nothing takes action is if he can't move for any reason or isn't around here.

If you can't move, you should be in that cave, then if you get close, I feel signs. If you're not there, you should be far away, not near here, and there's no problem caving in.

My only concern is the situation where that cave is so special that it blocks his power, and he can't move, but if he starts saying that, he'll be able to think of any possibility.

"You're really okay," Liddy says as a precaution.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Plus, I'm having trouble getting Liddy to stay with the wounded, especially Dan. Beatrice needs to be transported when Dan and Mel can't move."

That convinced me for once.

The next day on March 30th.

After the base spent six days.

I was worried about Dan's condition, but because of his youth, he recovered even more from sleeping overnight. Severe exercise is just as difficult, but if you're only traveling to your next base because you're originally physically fit, you're likely to manage. Of course, with someone's support.

Mel has recovered further and her blood color has improved. Although there is no excellence in movement, there is no problem if you are fighting an understated opponent.

Before my grandfathers left, I headed with Guy to the ridge where I could see the enemy strongholds. To keep my grandfathers company by the end of the day if possible.

We left with the dawn, but not only because of the weather, but also because there were no signs of demons, things went well.

When we reach the ridge, we take out the telescope and observe the cave.

"There's nothing there. What do you say, do you feel any sign of him?

Guy answered my question, "I don't feel it either," and asked me, "What will you do?"

"As planned, down here"

Guy replied "Yes, sir," with a slightly nervous look,

"Let's mark that cedar and go for that rock next..." he instructed the route.

Guy was better at this sort of thing, so I decided in advance, but I wasn't sure why I chose that route.

I'm going down the ridge, but I still don't feel any sign of the enemy.

On the contrary, it even feels like the number of demons that were so reduced is returning a little.

In front of the cave, we reached the valley bottom part of the valley.

I will look into it carefully, but although traces of the ground dragon and cyclops have remained, nothing in particular has changed.

Still couldn't act right away. Because if there were that pitch-black demon clan inside, you'd throw away the life you picked up in the corner.

"Do you want to come in," Guy asked.

His voice is also slightly plundering because of nervousness. Probably the same as me.

"Oh. You can't just come this far and not check"

We began to proceed cautiously towards the cave.
