Dream Life

Episode XI: College Visits

July 23rd.

I arrived in the academic city of Doctus yesterday. There is no major trouble during the journey and no fatigue remains.

I'm heading to my homeschool, Tilia School of Magic, which I miss this morning.

Sometimes it was summer vacation, with few students, but also in the middle of the exam season, so many early teenage children and their parent-like adults were seen.

Although I managed to secure the inn yesterday, there is no good accommodation available because of the exam season.

I don't know how many days I'm staying this time, so I decided to have a short-term rental at the McCloud Chamber of Commerce, a realtor I used to take care of.

This one was left to Liddy and the others, and me and Sharon headed to the college.

The College plans to visit Professor Lionel Raspade in the morning and Professor Kittry Erbain in the afternoon for everyone, including the Liddies.

I put Dr. Raspade first because I thought that once we talked, it would be more intrusive and likely that the teacher would need time to concentrate on the research, knowing that time would be available, and talking to Mr. Kitley.

There are also reasons why Liddy and the others don't want to go to the teacher.

Doctus is divided into the old town, the standard fortified city of the Caerm Empire, and the new town that was naturally created around it.

The Old Town is an academic city, the New Town has character as a commercial city, and the Old Town has to pay taxes just to get in.

However, if you belong to the Mage Guild, you'll be exempt from taxes, so me and Sharon can just show the Mage Guild orb and get it straight.

I crept through the gates into the old town of Doctus with Sharon.

I remember going by every day looking at a building made of gray stone.

"I miss you," Sharon talked as she walked trying to fit her body perfectly. Because there's usually one of Liddy and the others, it's probably because it's rare to be alone.

"It's not much different here either."

The old town is lined with many ancient bookstores and magic props shops. It was the same as eight years ago, when most of them were in school.

He tried to enter his homeschool, which he missed, unlike the students taking practical exams.

"What can I do for you? Doesn't look like a student escort, though?

The adventurer style stopped me by the guard.

"Isn't that Mr. Lockhart?" He was called out by an official who remembered my face.

The staff came in between, so I was able to get in soooo much after that just to do an orb check.

However, the students and their parents reacted to that voice, and behind me, I heard a voice saying, "That man is Zacharias Lockhart..." and it caught my attention.

Fortunately, I got nothing from entering the school building because I could never speak up, but "I didn't think you'd be so surprised," Sharon also said.

As always when I headed to Dr. Raspade's lab, I relied on the light of the light magic props in the dark room to hold onto my desk and read the literature.

It was possible that he was a practical exam examiner, like I was, but he was convinced he was in the lab because we were the only ones where the teacher was an exam examiner.

You never notice the sound of a knock as usual, and you don't even see this one when you get inside the room.

"Long time no see, Doctor. Zacharias Lockhart and Sharon Lockhart."

You reacted to my name, turn your face slowly.

"I've been waiting for you, Mr. Lockhart," he says, getting up and offering me his right hand.

After shaking his hand, he also offers Sharon his right hand,

"It's not you anymore, Jakes, and it's hard to say that I'm Mrs. Lockhart. Sharon, let me call you that."

I've said that with a serious look.

I was surprised because I used to call him "Miss Jakes," but Dan seemed to tell me.

"Quickly, would you look at this," he pulls out a brand new literature.

The teacher opened the page where the signs were pinched,

"This is a copy of a book found in the ruins of the Saeum Mountains..."

It's not a ruin we found before, it's something we found further down the mountain.

The teacher seemed to decide that it was part of a mechanism to use the power of the Spirit to move his hands, given that that page depicted a magic formation and a picture of his flat hands together.

"... take a good look at this place. Pay. Wind attributes and metallicity combine. My imagination is that I would use the power of the Spirit of the Wind to move it and use the power of the Spirit of Gold to fix it by curing it..."

The teacher keeps explaining to his excitement, but he did feel similar to the magic of increasing the pressure of the wind attribute.

"Maybe you're raising the internal pressure and moving it"

When I whine, "What do you mean?" He stopped to explain and asked.

I find it hard to understand in words, take out leather gloves and pump air in with the magic of a blow air.

The leather gloves start to swell and the fingers become straight according to them.

I was also considering the idea of moving it under air pressure, as it was in the previous world. But even if the order to move is conveyed, the force application and subtraction are not conveyed successfully. As a result, I could only move with five fingers open and closed.

"Moving with wind attribute magic in this way is not difficult in itself. But it's hard to control it."

"Hmm. I know exactly what you're trying to say. That's where the metallic magic comes in. Look at this part. Pay attention... I'm changing the hardness of the metal. This is the structure."

The picture the teacher pointed to depicted a spiral object, a spring.

Unexpectedly, "This is!" I raised my voice.

"You change the hardness of this part to control the fixation and movement! Well, with each finger, it can be stopped at many angles, too."

The soft spring can be moved with the force of air and the fingers fixed by changing the hardness. This makes it possible to move any finger, and any degree of openness can be retained by changing the hardness at a further degree of openness along the way.

"If it's a simple move, you can still use it, but how do you communicate the intentions of those who use it later?"

"Mm-hmm. I'm hanging around the same place. But I've come up with something that looks like a tip."

"What is it like?"

"It's the magic team of blacksmiths you sent me."

At the request of the Blacksmith Guild, he helps improve the magic team and sends the knowledge gained in doing so to the teacher in a paper.

Its magic formation doesn't come pinned when they say it's a hint. Because the blacksmiths' magic formation is a magic formation of grant magic and not a mechanical control of movement.

My teacher laughs nicely when I'm confused.

"Though I came up with it, I was as confused as you at first," he said.

"The magic formations of grant magic certainly do not control movement. But it has very interesting features."

"Is that an interesting feature?

"I think you know because you use it too... Sharon, don't you understand?

Sharon was suddenly told the story, but he answered clearly, "Yes," and turned his gaze to me.

"Doesn't what the teacher wants to say mean that it works differently in the mindset of those who use it?"

That's where I finally realized too.

The magic swords made by the blacksmiths can wrap up light and flames. At that time, the user can control the force application and subtraction, such as the size of the flame, the heat, and so on.

"I see... that's an interesting trait indeed..."

"If we can incorporate this magic formation, we can control force exertion and subtraction. Well, it will take some getting used to, but I'm thinking that if you're a swordsman using a magic sword, you'll catch your senses right away..."

He then had a detailed talk with Dr. Raspade and was made to promise to show his face every day for the time being.

It's lunchtime and we'll be back in the new town.

When I joined Liddy and the others at the inn,

"I was introduced to a nice house. It's cheap too."

In her story, she decided because there happened to be an empty house near where she used to live, with all the furniture and stuff.

Enter the old town again in the afternoon.

Now the Liddies were with us and headed for an interview with their original purpose, Professor Kittry Erbain.

"Long time no see," says Kitley, who looks the same as before.

After an exchange of greetings as a whole, get down to business.

"I need to talk to you about my research on the gods."

"Yeah, Dan, I've heard from you, and I've got the materials ready..."

When I say that with pleasure, I place about ten books on the table for the meeting.

"The first thing I want to know is about the God of Nothingness (Vanitas)," he says, lifting an old literature.

"It's literature from over 2,000 years ago, apparently written by the Demons."

"Are you a demon?" I raise my voice unexpectedly. The Demons were thoroughly eliminated from resisting the Empire until the end, because little trace remained on the western side of the Aquila Mountains.

"I think you know, the Demons had a country around Periclitle today. It seemed like a coalition of different tribes when it came to the country... I know until about two thousand years ago that the Empire invaded me and fled east of the Aquila Mountains, but I know very little more than that. Still, the Great Library of Doctus (here) housed some literature on the Demons..."

The Grand Library, officially known as the Praetarian Library, is the world's proud library of Doctus. The number of books is said to be 700,000, and in old things even before the beginning of tria history.

"... I stumbled upon this when I was fishing for literature on Vanitas. At first I thought it was written by an imperial researcher, but when I read it carefully, I realized that it was also written by a priestly figure in the Temple of Darkness..."

In Mr. Kitley's explanation, the Devil's Cleric wrote it, and the content seems to reflect on the existence of Vanitas.

They said there was a description in it that Vanitas appeared in the guise of the eleven pillar gods.

"... it says here that he faked the Dark God's (Noctis) trust and the Demon Clan, and muddled the war against the Empire."

"" impersonating the gods "... the demons must have been confused too"

"Yeah, that was clearly written. Especially a belligerent tribe, maybe a ghost tribe, but I seem to have frequently entrusted them with closing the road to peace. And defeated because of it..."

So once we stop talking and see if we understand, we'll continue talking.

"That was a tough one, too, but what bothered me more than that was why I found out it was Vanitas. If you continued to impersonate Noctis and entrust him, the Demons would have been confused, but you wouldn't have known Vanitas..."

Even if you do find the Noctis' trusteeship strange, you shouldn't know Vanitas impersonated it.

"Did Noctis reveal that?

"Yeah, you're right," he nodded.

"This is how the Word of God is written in the literature.“ Our common enemy, Vanitas, has descended. All the men of this world must take their hands together and confront Vanitas. But the power of his people was already too pervasive. Now we must think of it as a time of femininity and prepare ourselves for the time to come ”. It only says" God, "but I'm pretty sure it's a noctus out of context."

"" Prepare for the time to come ”? When exactly does it say?

"It doesn't say that much. After the word" female-footed time, "it was written that we would go east through the mountains of the Arid Eagle, so maybe we decided that it was time for the Demons to invade."

So Sharon, who had been silent until now, opened his mouth.

"Why didn't Noctis reveal it was Vanitas from the beginning? I don't think there's any point in being revealed after a defeat has been decided."

"I was wondering about that, too, but it didn't say anything."

"Then again, the last God to appear may be Vanitas, not Noctis"

Mr. Kitley opens his eyes to Sharon's words.

"I wonder what that means?

"Show hope after deceiving the Demons and driving them to the brink of annihilation. If that is passed down and remains a legend, the Demons will move exactly as they do when a new divinity descends. It's a bad way of saying it, but if the Demons perish but the Empire reigns over the land, it will have no great effect on the gods. Because the family is just replaced. So, suppose Vanitas deliberately let the Demons escape to use them as pawns one day… I wondered if that was possible."

"That is. After driving the Demons into distress and increasing their dependence on Noctis, do you mean to impersonate Noctis and move them for convenience?"

Sharon nodded loudly when I heard that.

"The gods have some restrictions. It seems to be in Vanitas as well, but I'm not sure how to impose that restriction. So I think it's possible to think that we hit the fabric stone in preparation for the future"

Mr. Kitley put his arms together and thought,

"I don't know what you're talking about. But the rationale now is that if the gods give the Demons the right sacrament, they'll have no problem. That's not why I want to deny your idea. I just want to say there's too little evidence to verify."

"Of course, I understand that. For my part, I have no idea how the Demons will affect the world, even as they invade the West. I know the Pericritle and the Kaum kingdoms are in crisis, but we can't go as far as destroying the Caerm Empire."

I propose that the conclusions should be put on hold once the debate seemed to be empty.

"I don't think we're about to come to a conclusion now. Do you have any other information?

"I do," he replied.

"Dan, I also left it in the information I gave you, but the more I look into it, the more I care about Jilsol Island..."

Previous information suggests that the "temple of beginnings" on the island of Gilsall, the Temple of Creatore, also frequently appears in the literature of ancient civilizations.

Furthermore, Lucio Brillare, the founder of Phototheism, said he was interested in Phototheism after visiting Gilsall.

And in phototheism, Vanitas' existence had been deliberately erased, and it was something that Vanitas might have done some manipulation.

"Little has been told of Brillare's visit to Zirsole? I hate phototheism, but I didn't even know it when I talked to the people involved who stumbled through it..."

Phototheism is an organization that “burns” books contrary to its own doctrine, and the reputation of researchers in academic cities is very poor.

Officials of the Phototheistic religion pass through the streets of Aurelia to the northern kingdoms of Lax and Sartooth, which also appear frequently in Doctus.

"... Brillare is worshipped as the" Son of the God of Light (Lucidus) "in Phototheism, so the record about him is even trivial, such as that of stopping by a small village. But when I heard about the visit to Jilsol, which should have taken months, no one knew. When I showed you my chronology and told you that I was supposed to be going to Jill Saul in this period, it was a conversation with God in the mountains."

"Is it possible that the record we have here was wrong?

"I don't have that. The record here is actually the literature of a researcher who went to Luke and interviewed him in person, and number one, he's an elf, so he's still alive. I'm not here, so I'm just checking in with the letter, but maybe the literature here should be more accurate."

It was about five hundred years ago now that Brillare became interested in light theism. No wonder a long-lived elf researcher lives.

The researcher has already returned to his hometown of Sartooth, where he cannot listen directly, but can send out a letter to confirm.

"So you're saying it's likely that it was intentionally tampered with... that's increasingly suspicious"

"Right. The diametrically opposite organization, the Demonic Nation and the Light Divinity, is connected by the presence of Vanitas. That's what I think."

Mr. Kitley laughs after saying so, "Even so, I have no proof".

"Then I guess that means you won't know until you get to Jilsol," Liddy added to the story.

"Right. It's my instinct as a researcher, but if I go to Jilsol, I feel like I know something."

Then I also heard about the gods.

However, this one showed few things to do with Vanitas or Gilsall Island.

"It was nice talking to you guys. I want you to come to Dr. Raspade and show your face to me."

"I'm going to. Every day I try to show my face as much as I can, even if I can't."

Beatrice scratches her head when she leaves Mr. Kitley's lab.

"I didn't know half of it. So, what do we do? Coming up."

"For now, I'm going to do some digging in the big library for a month or so."

"But isn't Kitty checking it all out?," Liddy said.

"Even the same paper can change the way you receive it if you change who you see it. And we don't just look into the gods."

"So what do you look into?" Mel asks.

"I'm most concerned about light theism. We may have more of an informant look into this than a literature."

Cy Furman, an informant I've been using for a long time, is still active. He would gather all sorts of information.
