Chapter 449 - 290: Liu Xuan: My Father Wants to See You
"Hongshan Camp must be in urgent need of an administrative overhaul right now."
Lin Qi had only killed the Blood Moon Envoy; the internal chaos of the camp was still something Ding Yang had to resolve himself.
Ding Yang nodded and said, "Hongshan Camp needs to be reorganized. The Moon Worshipers nearly recruited new members from within. Knowing those survivors, I’m afraid many of them will get the wrong idea now that they know the Moon Worshipers exist."
Ding Yang didn’t give Wang Qiang a detailed account of what had just happened. He had already composed himself and was ready to return to Hongshan Camp to get to work as soon as possible.
As for how Lin Qi had saved him...
Ding Yang planned to keep it a secret buried in his heart.
Lin Qi had never told Hongshan Camp about these methods of his, and Headquarters knew even less.
This meant it was a secret Lin Qi was deliberately keeping.
’Lin Qi saved my life!’
’Besides, helping Lin Qi keep this secret isn’t a violation of the rules, much less a fundamental error.’
Wang Qiang looked at Lin Qi, then at Ding Yang, momentarily unsure what he should ask.
Turning his head, Wang Qiang looked at Wang Ziru.
He saw not a hint of surprise on Wang Ziru’s face, as if he had seen through it all long ago.
He had known all along that Lin Qi would never abandon his own people and run.
Lin Qi said no more. After patting Wang Qiang’s shoulder, he walked to the elevator, ready to go upstairs.
...
"Ding Yang, what on earth happened?"
"Don’t ask just yet. Hurry and get me back. If I don’t return soon, the mess inside Hongshan Camp is going to get a lot bigger."
"Talk while we walk. What’s the situation?"
"It’s a good thing you’re here. The morale among the survivors in Hongshan Camp is a bit shaky right now. I need you to help me keep things under control."
"Hey? Ding Yang, don’t change the subject!"
Wang Ziru watched the two of them leave, then pressed the elevator button for the sixth floor.
Now that the crisis was over, it was time to get Mo University Camp back to normal operations.
Wang Ziru arrived on the sixth floor and began to arrange the camp’s internal affairs.
...
In the conference room, Lin Qi closed his eyes and resumed his Meditation.
There were less than four hours left on the Door’s cooldown.
This amount of time probably wasn’t enough to complete his Spiritual Power advancement, and certainly not enough to analyze the next Extraordinary Item.
But Lin Qi wouldn’t waste time. He squeezed every last second out of his time in the Doomsday World to enhance his Spiritual Power.
Only in the last two minutes before the Door’s cooldown finished did Lin Qi change his clothes and wait to return.
...
「4:40 AM, March 29, 2089. Cyber World, No. 1 Prosthetic Clinic, basement level, inside Lin Qi’s workshop.」
Compared to a second ago, there were slight changes to the Prosthetic Body Lin Qi wore.
The disassembled Widowmaker had vanished, and his built-in weaponry was also missing four Little Flying Sticks, two charged molecular wires, and one projectile grenade.
If someone were to observe him up close, they might notice something was off.
But with only Lin Qi present in the workshop, no one would discover his secret.
Closing his eyes, Lin Qi recalled the events of "last night" before finally standing up, ready to leave the workshop.
Arriving on the first floor, Lin Xin’s "bodyguard," Sister Li, was lying on the sofa in the reception area. She hadn’t taken one of the upstairs rooms as Lin Xin had arranged, choosing instead to rest alone on the sofa.
Hearing Lin Qi come up from the basement, Sister Li opened her eyes for a glance, then closed them again to rest.
Sister Li sighed inwardly. ’There’s a reason some people can get ahead at the company.’
’Living off a woman is just one aspect; what’s more important is the effort.’
’Only getting ready to rest at nearly five in the morning... Lin Qi is just too hardworking!’
Lin Qi didn’t know what Sister Li was thinking. He just silently walked up the stairs and returned to his room.
Without realizing it, Lin Qi had gone almost two months without spending a night in his own room at home.
He walked to the second floor and entered his room.
Lin Qi looked at the tidy furnishings inside and felt a bit emotional.
But the feeling didn’t last long. A few minutes after lying down on the bed, his breathing became even.
A rough calculation would show that Lin Qi had once again been working nonstop for over forty hours.
He had to live each day as if it were two, and with one accident after another, Lin Qi was mentally exhausted.
...
The night passed quietly. At nine in the morning, Lin Qi’s eyes opened automatically.
It wasn’t because of an alarm from his Intelligent Brain, but because of his biological clock.
Only after opening his eyes did Lin Qi remember that he didn’t have to go to work today; the issues at the company hadn’t been resolved yet.
As for when he would return to his normal work routine, that would have to wait until the Eastern Alliance had settled the matter completely.
Standing up, Lin Qi seemed to hear the sound of conversation from downstairs.
He didn’t activate his Spiritual Vision, nor did he rush out the door.
Lin Qi first went to the sink in the bathroom to wash up, only then leaving his room and heading down the stairs to the first floor.
In the first-floor reception area, a characteristically cyber breakfast was laid out on the table.
It was all canned food—a specialty not just of the Cyber World, but of Lin Qi’s family as well.
After all, the mother of Lin Qi and Lin Xin had passed away early, and the siblings had been raised by their old man.
Expect a Prosthetic Doctor to cook?
Never mind the taste, just the thought of those prosthetic hands, stained with the residual smell of human tissue, was enough to kill anyone’s appetite.
Better to just eat canned food!
At least it was nutritious!
The canned food produced by corporations was enough to satisfy the cyber workers, keeping them "healthy" and energetic for each day of work.
Lin Xin, Liu Xuan, the old man, and Sister Li were sitting in the reception area, each holding their own can of food while they chatted.
