As Ark stared at the roaring golem before him, he felt a shiver run down his spine.

It looked like a fortress on two legs, and everything about it screamed about how impossible of a challenge it would be.

Fighting a high level boss grade monster was one thing, but fighting a monster at level twenty five was a whole other issue.

Even the nature of the quest objectives went on to solidify that point.

— Survive.

The system did not expect them to win; it did not believe winning was a possibility.

"Ten minutes," Ark thought out loud. That was the time they were given to survive repeated hordes of unending monsters.

Sparks appeared in his hand, and then a sleek black staff formed, ending at a large spiked ball.

His hands trembled, the mace shaking as well. But Ark was not trembling out of fear, rather, his excitement had bubbled to the very peak!

The challenge may have looked impossible, but that was the exact type of challenge he needed to excite his mind!

"Olivia, are you ready?"

Olivia stared at the monster, a drop of sweat sliding down her face.

"Of course I am!"

She was about to summon her glaive when Ark suddenly dropped a golden weapon into her hands.

"You’re going to need this..."

Her eyes immediately widened as she stared at the weapon.

— Mind Splitter Axe (A-Rank)

"A-are you really giving me this?" Olivia asked, her tone filled with shock.

"Hey, I’m lending it to you, so don’t get any ideas." He paused briefly. "But if you do well... maybe I might just let you keep it?"

This was more than enough motivation for Olivia. "Let’s go!"

Ark laughed, while Esau stared at them as though they were mad. And then chaos ensued.

"Don’t stay too close together, we will be easy pickings for the golem that way!" Ark commanded.

Golems had wide area damage; if they clumped up together, it would slow down their reaction speed. So while closer formations were effective against mobs like goblins, it was a different case when it came to golems.

SWOOOOOSH!

Dozens of mud projectiles suddenly cut towards them from all directions, speeding through the air like hypersonic bullets.

They all swiftly dodged the projectiles, and then Olivia raced into the sky before unleashing chain lightning that devastated some of the mud golems.

But this only caused the rest of them to turn their attention to her. More mud bullets were fired, charging right at her face, but Olivia swiftly rushed down, the bullets narrowly cutting past her.

Bang!

They exploded into the wall, caving the concrete like it was plastic.

Olivia clicked her tongue when she saw the damage. "Not bad, you little mud balls!"

Tzzzzz!

Her entire body was engulfed with lightning, and then her wings fanned out by her sides. With one massive beat, Olivia appeared where the mud golems were.

Slash!

While her glaive would have had a little more difficulty with the golems, her axe sliced through them with ease, the system announcing their deaths.

She launched herself back into the air, trying to spot the next group of mud golems, when a massive earth golem appeared behind her, its crimson eyes locked on her body...

<••>

Sazan was locked in a fierce battle with a golem. The lizard man’s daggers moved like flashes of lightning, his dagger unleashing multiple cuts in the space of a few seconds.

Using his tail, he was able to easily pivot away from danger. This had saved him from being crushed several times.

"Tsk! Look at what this bastard has gotten me into!"

The only reason he was still alive was because he had lived his entire life depending on ruthless cunning!

Esau would have never stepped into this place on a regular day.

"But that kid... he’s definitely mad!"

His dagger flashed red, and then he lunged forward, delivering two devastating strikes that cleaved through the golem’s leg.

The golem came down, and then Esau dashed forward, plunging both daggers into its eye.

He took in a deep breath, his heart already racing in his chest, and then he turned around, only to see four more golems marching towards him...

"Tch." He clicked his tongue.

’At least it isn’t all bad...’ Esau thought as he glanced at Ark.

"I won’t have to move a muscle, he’s going to get himself killed anyways...."

The moment the battle started, Ark knew exactly where he needed to be, and that was with the boss, of course.

While the rest of his team fended off the golems, Ark’s plan was to destroy the boss and hopefully make the battle easier for them.

Boss monsters were commanders; as long as they were alive, the other golems would be much more difficult to beat.

But the path to a boss monster was never easy...

Multiple rock golems had barred his path, with a few mud golems readying themselves to protect their leader.

No matter....

"All he had to do was carve a path through!"

[Golem Refresh Initiated!]

Multiple new golems suddenly appeared out of thin air, replacing the golems that they had killed.

One of the golems appeared right in front of him, and just from the moment it had appeared, it was already swinging, its massive hands coming down upon Ark!

He laughed. "You’re not going to make this easy, are you?!"

BANG!

The floor caved in like a twisted can of sardines, but Ark jumped just in time, landing right atop its wrist.

He sprinted across the monster’s arms, right to its face, and then he swung his mace, bashing it right into the monster’s head.

The monster tilted back as chunks of stone flew out of its head, but it managed to regain its balance—

Bang!

Ark slammed the mace down with even more force, shattering the head of the monster to dust and debris.

[You have slain a level 10 Defiled Stone Golem, +15 exp]

Another golem swung for him, but Ark leaped into the air, its hand cutting past his feet with a wave of wind.

The moment he landed, multiple strands of fine, steel webs wrapped around the monster, coiling around its arms and leg, restricting its movement—

But Ark was about to catapult himself to it when a massive shadow appeared behind him.

VWOOOSH!

Another defiled golem was already there, bringing down its foot with more force than a 30,000-pound semi truck, the air rushing past it as it descended.

At the same time, the mud golems had fired, the air around him littered with their bullets.

In a few seconds, they would make impact. His bones would be crushed into mush, and then riddled with holes...

’I almost forgot...’ Ark mused.

Monsters were not as dumb as they often looked. How could he have forgotten that monsters targeted the strongest member of the party first?

Well, since they were so kind as to show him that respect...

Ark smiled internally.

His blue orbs glowed with a fiery light. The world around him turned intensely dark, and then something stirred within the darkness.

"I guess I’ll take this a little more seriously."

"Come out."

And then the darkness heard his call.
