Chapter 479 - 319: Getting Married? I’m Not Ready! Should We Rehearse?
He walked over to the sofa across from Edith and sat down.
"My deal with the Elf Queen is settled. She will give you a drop of the Blood of the Elf Ancestors, so be sure to accept it." Edith didn’t beat around the bush, directly informing Su Xuan of the transaction’s details.
"Yes, I’ve already heard from the Elf Queen." Su Xuan nodded, showing he was already aware.
But he was still a little confused, so he asked, "That drop of the Blood of the Elf Ancestors... what exactly does it do?"
Edith nodded lightly, explaining in a calm tone, "The Blood of the Elf Ancestors has the ability to harmonize any and all conflicting forces. This is why the Elf Queen can wield several types of ultimate Elemental Magic. The Power within you is far too chaotic, so you need this drop of the Blood of the Elf Ancestors to bring it into balance."
"So that’s why..." Su Xuan couldn’t help but feel a bit overwhelmed by the favor.
"So, has she given you that drop of the Blood of the Elf Ancestors yet?" Edith asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
"Well..."
Just as Su Xuan was about to answer, Edith suddenly parted her crimson lips and exhaled a pinkish mist, carrying the faint scent of a Rose.
The sudden gesture left Su Xuan baffled. He had no idea what Edith was doing.
The very next second, however, Edith’s demeanor turned icy. "If you’re about to spin some lie, you can save your breath," she warned, her voice laced with displeasure. "There is nothing I despise more than deception."
...
Su Xuan hesitated for a few seconds before slowly replying, "The Elf Queen said the Blood of the Elf Ancestors requires some time to prepare. It’s not something she can give me right away."
Hearing this explanation, Edith’s icy expression softened slightly. A smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she said teasingly, "That’s perfectly normal. After all, a woman only gets that time of the month once, let alone the Elf Queen."
?
The moment Su Xuan heard her words, he was utterly stunned.
Edith’s words struck him like a sledgehammer to the head.
"Hold on," Su Xuan’s voice trembled slightly. "Don’t tell me the Blood of the Elf Ancestors is... the Elf Queen’s..."
"Her what?" Edith smiled faintly, a trace of anticipation in her eyes.
...
Su Xuan was left completely flustered. He never would have imagined that the Blood of the Elf Ancestors was actually the Elf Queen’s...
"Hah," Edith chuckled. Seeing Su Xuan’s mortified expression, she said softly, "Relax. It’s not what you’re thinking."
Phew...
At that, Su Xuan let out a long sigh of relief. He failed to notice, however, the sly, triumphant smile that quietly played across Edith’s lips.
"Still, since the Elf Queen made a promise, she’s not one to go back on her word easily," Edith continued. "I’ll send what the Elf Kingdom requires tomorrow. But don’t you forget to press the Elf Queen to hand over the Blood of the Elf Ancestors as soon as possible."
"Right, I understand," Su Xuan nodded.
"Alright, enough about that. There’s something else I came to discuss with you." As Edith spoke, she gave a light wave of her hand, and an illusory map immediately materialized before Su Xuan’s eyes.
"What’s this?"
"A map of the Star Kingdom," Edith explained.
Su Xuan studied the map carefully. It clearly marked the dozens of cities and hundreds of territories within the Star Kingdom, even detailing the dividing lines between the various factions.
"Ten days have passed since the Star Ceremony." Edith stood and walked to Su Xuan’s side, crossing her arms. "In that short time, nearly half of the Star Kingdom’s territories have been plunged into war. Both Prince Tyres and Prince Laps are actively expanding their power, and the domains once controlled by Princess Vivian have been flocking to their sides."
"This... this is terrible." A worried expression crossed Su Xuan’s face.
He didn’t know much about warfare; it wasn’t his area of expertise.
But he understood the situation well enough to see that it was clearly disadvantageous for Edith.
"The situation is indeed dire. That’s why I need your help."
Edith looked Su Xuan straight in the eye. "Although Prince Tyres and Prince Laps are chipping away at Princess Vivian’s influence, the entire army of the Royal City now belongs to me."
"The entire army of the Royal City has surrendered to you?" Su Xuan asked, shocked.
The Royal City’s army had always been loyal to Princess Vivian. He never thought they would submit to Edith in such a short time.
"Mhm." Edith nodded lightly. "Those nobles of the Royal Family in the Royal City care more about their own interests than about who sits on the throne. As for the loyal Knights, their Loyalty is to the nation, not to any particular Princess or Prince."
"Now, I just need to win the recognition of the Star Knight Order, and I can move on to the next phase."
...
Su Xuan fell silent for a moment before asking, "What do you need me to do?"
Edith said nonchalantly, "Get married."
The two simple words struck Su Xuan’s ears like a clap of thunder.
His eyes widened, and he couldn’t believe his ears. "Wh-what? Get married?" he stammered.
"You and me?"
"Of course not!" Edith rolled her eyes at him, then patiently explained, "You don’t have to worry. It’s just a marriage in name only. I’m going to provide you with a new identity and have you wed as the future King of the Star Kingdom."
"A fake marriage? And I’m supposed to be the next King?"
Su Xuan was completely bewildered by this barrage of information. This was the first time he’d ever heard of a King having a sham wedding...
’Is this some kind of political marriage?’
"It can’t be helped. After ascending the throne, the King of the Star Kingdom must choose a Companion to marry and quickly produce an heir with the Star Bloodline. That’s the only way to gain the recognition of the Star Knight Order and the public." Edith shrugged helplessly, obviously at her wit’s end. "I couldn’t find a suitable candidate, so after weighing my options, I was left with no choice but to turn to you."
...
Su Xuan said nothing. ’This damned Star Kingdom has so many stupid fucking rules!’
"Don’t worry. I just need you to play a part, like an actor in a play. We can even have Ivsha play the role of the bride. Just think of it as me throwing a wedding for you two," Edith said calmly. "All you have to do is show up for the ceremony. As for conceiving an heir with the Star Bloodline... your help won’t be required. Because..."
"Because what?" Su Xuan frowned. ’Of course, when it comes to the good part, I’m not needed, right?’
"Because you also have a trace of Star Power flowing within you," Edith explained. "So, I will arrange a better wife for you, not some puppet who’s just being pushed onto the throne."
"Hold it!"
Su Xuan immediately cut Edith off. "I don’t need you to pick a ’more suitable’ wife for me, and you don’t have the authority to do so. Besides, I think Ivsha is more than good enough. So you can save yourself the trouble."
Edith was taken aback for a moment, a flicker of doubt in her eyes. "Are you serious?"
But her Perception told her with certainty that his tone was completely sincere, without a trace of deception.
’In other words, he genuinely thinks Ivsha is an excellent Companion?’
’Then...’
"Why would I lie to you?" Su Xuan shrugged, continuing with a candid expression. "If it’s just an act, of course I’ll cooperate fully. Do Ivsha and I need to rehearse? I’ve never been married before, so I’m not really familiar with how it all works."
... After a moment of silence, Edith finally said slowly, "There’s no rush. Let’s wait until you’ve finished handling things with the Elf Kingdom."
But she felt incredibly conflicted, finding it impossible to understand Su Xuan’s way of thinking.
’He’s so obviously a player, so why is he turning down a free wife when she’s handed to him?’
’Could it be...’
’Has Ivsha truly conquered his body and soul?’
