Chapter 130: How Could You Just Give Away Your Contact Information?
At the side entrance of the hotel, Chloe Dave saw Luna Morgan coming out and quickly waved.
"How did it go? Did you give her the things?"
Luna Morgan nodded, then shook her head. "She accepted the bracelet, but as for the amulet and the scriptures... I didn’t give them to her."
Chloe Dave grew anxious. "Why didn’t you give them to her? You did so much for her, she has to know!"
He hissed in pain as he spoke, turning to check the wounds on his face in the reflection of a black car parked nearby.
The black car looked unassuming, but up close, its quality was superb. The lines were smooth, radiating a low-key luxury that screamed expensive.
Luna Morgan said, "Slow down."
After a pause, she added forlornly, "There’s no need. All I did was go to the temple to pray to the Bodhisattva and copy some scriptures. It’s not like they’re worth any money. Miss Lancaster probably wouldn’t care for them anyway."
The gentle and generous Miss Lancaster she remembered seemed to have become more materialistic.
She was never like this before. As long as a gift was prepared with heart, she would always accept it happily.
Compared to gifts that could be easily bought with money, she valued handmade items that took time and effort.
’Now, things like this are probably beneath Miss Lancaster’s notice... Thankfully, I had a backup plan. I’ve been working like crazy to save up money.’
Besides, I didn’t manage to save Samuel Miller, so the money I’d set aside for Mama Knight was freed up. It was just enough to buy a gift for Jane Lancaster.
Chloe Dave exclaimed, "She wouldn’t care for them? Is she crazy?! If you and Zion hadn’t been praying to every god and Buddha and seeking every possible medical treatment, do you think she would have woken up at all?"
Back then, Caleb Lowell and the Lancaster family had brought in top international neurological experts for consultations, and not one of them dared to say for certain that Jane Lancaster would ever wake up.
"The miracle of her waking up was created by you and Zion, working together," Chloe Dave concluded.
Luna Morgan shook her head. "Don’t say that. Miss Lancaster was able to wake up because of her own strength."
Chloe Dave’s heart ached for her. ’She’s just too naive, never taking any credit for herself.’
"So what about you helping her get into university, and asking Professor Woods to take her on as a student? Are you planning to keep that a secret forever, too?"
Luna Morgan hesitated. "If she asks, I’ll probably tell her. I hope she can understand that you only get good things in return by being good to others."
Jane Lancaster was in a coma for three years, after all. She’ll have to rely on others for many things in the future. If she keeps being so domineering and making enemies everywhere, what will she do?
’I can’t look after her forever.’
Chloe Dave leaned a hand against the car window. "How could she possibly understand? You’re always covering for her. Of course she’s going to bleed you dry."
Suddenly, the window rolled down. Chloe Dave’s point of support vanished, and he stumbled, grabbing the car door to steady himself.
A gust of cool air washed over them. Luna Morgan looked over and met a pair of handsome, almond-shaped eyes.
"Senior Sterling?" she asked, quickly apologizing on Chloe Dave’s behalf. "Sorry, we didn’t mean to disturb you."
The man held out a handkerchief with his long, slender fingers. Luna Morgan quickly reached out to take it.
Jasper Sterling pulled it back slightly and looked at Chloe Dave. "You."
Chloe Dave took it, confused. "Huh? What for?"
"Please wipe the window clean," Jasper Sterling said with a smile that was both gentle and distant.
The window rolled back up. Staring at his clear fingerprints on the glass, Chloe Dave felt a bit awkward and hastily gave it a quick wipe with the handkerchief.
Luna Morgan watched from the side. ’Men are so careless.’ "Let me do it."
She took the handkerchief and meticulously wiped all the fingerprints from the window and the car door before knocking on the glass.
"I’m so sorry, Senior Sterling. My friend didn’t mean to," she said, apologizing again as soon as the window rolled down.
Jasper Sterling glanced at the cut on the corner of Chloe Dave’s mouth. "It’s fine. But is his injury that serious? Can he not even speak?"
Uncle Lynn: "..."
’Here we go again,’ he thought. ’The young master is truly a master of passive-aggression.’
Luna Morgan was momentarily confused. "No, he can talk. He was just talking a moment ago."
Jasper Sterling’s eyes curved into a smile. "Oh, so he can talk. Then why isn’t he apologizing himself? Why does he need you to do it for him?"
Chloe Dave muttered, "...I’m sorry."
He looked mortified. ’I just forgot, it’s not like I did it on purpose. Why is this guy so petty?’
Luna Morgan considered for a moment, then said, "I’m sorry, the handkerchief is dirty now. I’ll wash it and return it to you."
The handkerchief looked exquisite and felt high-quality. When she saw the small brand logo on the corner, she was startled.
’It wouldn’t be right not to return something so expensive, but it would be rude to return it dirty. My only option is to take it home and wash it by hand.’
Inside the car, Jasper Sterling seemed to consider this. A butler-like man inside opened up a QR code on his phone, and only then did Jasper take the phone and hold it out.
"Alright. Let’s exchange contact info."
Luna Morgan quickly took out her phone to scan the code. Just as she sent the friend request, the window rolled up again.
Chloe Dave pulled Luna Morgan a few steps aside and said anxiously, "Why did you just give him your contact info like that?"
Luna Morgan was puzzled. "I can’t? Senior Sterling is a really nice person."
She had interacted with Jasper Sterling a few times before. Back then, she was still in middle school, attending student council meetings as a representative.
The other upperclassmen were all cold and aloof, completely ignoring her, but Jasper Sterling, the council president, was kind and gentle, and would even greet her with a smile.
Later, when she found out about Jasper Sterling’s family background, she found it incredible. His family was so wealthy, yet he didn’t have the arrogant air of a rich person at all.
That was truly a rare quality.
Chloe Dave grew frantic. ’How can Luna have her guard down so completely?’
"He’s obviously got ulterior motives! Don’t you know? He loves to take things from Zion. Anything and anyone related to Zion, he has to snatch away!"
Luna Morgan looked utterly confused. "Snatch away?"
Chloe Dave analyzed the situation for her seriously. "Do you think he adds just anyone on WeChat? Even I couldn’t get his contact, but he added you so easily. It means his target is you. He deliberately used such an expensive handkerchief to wipe the glass, wasn’t that just an excuse to get in touch with you?"
Seeing that Luna Morgan still didn’t get it, he sighed. "To be precise, he wants to steal the women around Zion. It used to be Jane Lancaster, then it was Beverly Lynch, and now it’s your turn."
Luna Morgan suddenly remembered the Taoist priest’s prophecy, and her heart skipped a beat.
It seemed... everything was falling into place!
’So, did Senior Sterling really add me because he wants to hit on me?’
The image of Jasper Sterling’s dazzling, almond-shaped eyes, so tender and affectionate one moment, yet so full of passion the next, made the tips of her ears turn red.
The two of them, completely absorbed in their conversation, didn’t notice the sound of footsteps approaching from behind.
Uncle Lynn had to clear his throat twice as a warning.
Chloe Dave turned, looked up, and saw the face looking down at him. For a second, he was so scared his heart nearly leaped out of his chest.
Luna Morgan was just as startled. ’Getting caught talking behind someone’s back... how embarrassing can it get?’
"Is there something else?" It was Chloe Dave, ever the thick-skinned one, who spoke first.
Inside, Luna Morgan was secretly praying he hadn’t heard anything.
Jasper Sterling’s expression was mild. "My apologies for interrupting your interesting conversation. Do I look like the kind of person who enjoys stealing other people’s women?"
Her fantasy shattered. He had heard everything!
