Chapter 559: Shattered Arrogance

As Axel was hurled into the skies, he arched his hands backward and let out a mighty horizontal slash as he roared, "Blue Lightning Divergence."

All the blue lightning gathered within him shrieked, as if in a frenzy. Through his sword slash, the thunder shot out through the air, almost forming a picture of countless branches spreading from the trunk of a tree. But the picture was painted in Death Energy and the colliding Blue Lightning.

The thunder sizzled through the air, fragments of it striking each of the countless falling undead, causing small explosions of expanding Death Energy throughout the skies.

Eventually, the innumerable branches of lightning spread out so far and wide that they encompassed the entirety of the raining undead avalanche. Despite how threatening the rain of skeletons looked, Axel already made his blue lightning the perfect counter to the specific Death Energy of Zabiur.

Its effects were quite devastating, not to mention the falling undead could not really fight back against his blue lightning divergence.

But the worst part was that the attack on the raining storm of undead was not only happening from beneath through Axel’s attack, but also from above as well.

Arcs of massive lightning were also striking the undead from above, as the dark clouds rumbled constantly, producing more and more lightning.

In a matter of 10-15 seconds, the hundred thousand undead were all vanquished by the might of Axel’s destructive blue lightning.

Only bones and skulls caught on fire or charred black fell from the heavens, painting the picture of Axel’s dominance in this exchange of clash and the defeat of the High-Lich.

Heinz was waiting exactly for this moment as the Calamity Warlord saw the figure of Zabiur become visible once more.

The High-Lich seemed to have suffered a kind of backlash due to the sudden extermination of his summoned rain of undead.

Heinz hurled his spear at Zabiur without a second of respite. Covered in his War Aura.

The High-Lich instantly teleported away from his spot to dodge the destructive spear attack.

But to his misfortune, right on that cue, Axel attacked the High-Lich once more, right on the spot where he reappeared.

Because Axel, with his Runic Eyes, could almost see through any forms of magic from the High-Lich.

And since Heinz also shared some of the Runic Eyes vision as well as the energy sense skill, being able to sense almost all energies throughout the battlefield.

He could also track the Lich’s movements and see through magic, albeit to a lesser capacity compared to Axel.

As the Lich barely blocked Axel’s sudden attack, Heinz appeared right on that spot, shooting a devastating piercing attack right towards the pulsing core of the High-Lich.

Zabiur gripped his glowing scepter tighter in rage, and he let out one of his powerful attacks. He chanted, "Rain of Deathly Spears..."

Suddenly, a halo of indistinct darkness formed at the back of the High-Lich; from there, spears of dark bubbles spread out throughout the skies, each forming the shape of a spear, each oozing with threatening might.

They all slowly rained down towards Heinz and Axel.

At this moment, without a single word necessary, both Axel and Heinz swiftly threw their weapons at each other and exchanged them.

Instantly, a bright notification flashed....

[Due to the previous modification of Brother of Swords]

[The subset technique Song of the Swords, belonging to the title holders of Brother of Swords, has been modified accordingly.]

[It has evolved to Song of the War.]

[Relaying all necessary information and physical adjustments to the Sword Brothers to be able to perform the Song of the War.]

A stream of information entered the minds of the two Sword Brothers.

Both of their eyes flashed with delight; it was an incredibly complex battle art that required two people with complete weapon resonance and a shared understanding of battle to perform.

And even with the slightest of mistakes, the execution of the technique’s first form, which they were both given, would fail.

Axel rotated the spear in his hands and stood with a proper stance of a spearmaster as if he had wielded the weapon for years, and Heinz also moved the sword expertly, like a master.

Both of their figures disappeared at incredible speed; they moved in different but coordinated rhythm towards the incoming rain of Deathly Spears manifested by the High-Lich.

Their task was not only to block that attack, but also to do it in a manner that saves the thousands of third phase soldiers from harm’s way, who were fighting their own battles beneath.

***

From the moment when Axel Nomrad made his appearance, showing his overbearing battle prowess despite being a runecaster.

An aspect whose holders had always been weak, only good at creating artifacts through rune-engravement.

But Axel had shattered that train of thought, just like how his famed Grandfather did so once.

Lucien saw this scene in disbelief; his knees had long hit the ground, almost in despair- the runecaster whom he talked big to, the runecaster whom he looked down on and saw only as a strategic resource for his benefit.

Someone whom he merely saw as a good worker now had become the most dazzling star on the bloody battlefield, far surpassing his own might.

The difference between an extremely talented Runecaster vs a Runecaster possessing the Runic Eyes was totally different. It was the chasm between Heaven and Earth.

Even the commoner Heinz Gil seemed to have surpassed his might, and those two were fighting and even pushing back the unbeatable enemy whom even Valkyrie could stand against.

Lucien’s Draconic Arrogance had truly been shattered.

Even his enemy, the Corrupted Elf, seemed to stare at the scale of battle in a daze, momentarily stopping their brutal battle.

Though the Golden prince would never be able to guess that Wangnan was staring at Axel for a different reason, the Corrupted Elf mumbled in his mind in shock, ’So, this is your true appearance, my lord?’

He added with a chuckle, ’In your human appearance, you look like the epitome of righteousness. Someone who could never have any hands with Evil.’

Wangnan sighed, ’As expected of the Demon of Despair.’

The Elf’s reverence for Osiris reached an unprecedented level when Axel destroyed the rain of 100,000 undead with his destructive lightning strike; the strength Axel displayed, even as a runecaster, greatly astounded the Corrupted Elf.

At the same time, his own resolution to grow stronger flared like never before. His gaze returned to the despairing Golden Prince as he grinned and resumed his vicious attack once more.

The Dark Trio was similarly in disbelief, but unlike Lucien, their demonic enemies did not give much of a break to let that shock sink in truly.

But they still remembered the day when Axel had disguised himself and barged into their gathering location within the underground floor of Jaden’s family mansion.

Thorian felt a chill down his spine; at that time, a part of him actually wanted to kill this powerful monster, as he was displeased and challenged by the Runecaster’s condescending attitude.

Thorian gritted his teeth; no wonder, no fucking wonder the damn monster had such an overbearing attitude; it would be strange if he possessed that much strength as well as the Runic Eyes and not be arrogant.

A similar train of thought also passed through Jaden and Enrick’s minds as they heaved a sigh of relief that they safely crossed over a major disaster without even realizing it.

But overall speaking, except for Sophia, Axel, and Heinz. The other key personnel in this war were in rather suboptimal condition.

The thralls of Osiris had held the upper hand instead.

In fact, most of the Third phase seekers, despite being boosted by Heinz’s Warlord aspect. were struggling, as too many of them were injured.

They were like broken cups, filled to the brim, barely managing to hold the overflowing water, despite the show put on by Axel and Heinz.

The battle as a whole was going in the Ghost race’s favor, which was concerning.

However, the one in most peril was perhaps none other than Lucien Suncrest himself. Despite his snake-like, cautious nature, there was always, in his heart, some amount of unmatched arrogance.

A confidence towards himself that was built upon the undeniable proof that he was the best, the strongest right beneath the Valkyrie.

And this confidence was not merely a characteristic quality of the Golden Prince; rather, it was a necessity. The Golden Dragon’s true power always stemmed from its endless arrogance and pride.

So, having an unshakable self-confidence was the foremost requirement for the Golden Prince to show overwhelming battle prowess.

He could accept the Valkyrie being far stronger than him because she was an otherworldly legendary being summoned only once every thousand years.

He could accept that a demon from the enemy side, by the name of Osiris, was much stronger than him.

But he could not accept that a mere runecaster whom he once thought of as lesser was so much stronger than him, and it strangely seemed like the Absolute Runecaster was almost as strong as the Valkyrie.
