Gigi:

When I stepped into Ragnar’s office and saw him again, a small pang of guilt tugged at my heart.

But I quickly reminded myself that everything I was doing was for him.

I mean, pursuing his brothers didn’t mean Ragnar wasn’t enough for me.

It was simply that I couldn’t bear the thought of anyone taking my place.

I wanted to remain the center of attention in that mansion, the one everyone cared for and treated as their priority.

And if either Jaguar or Theodore accepted Verity, the attention would automatically shift toward her.

The way everyone treated me, the respect I received, my importance in that household, everything would begin to change.

And I couldn’t deal with that.

On top of everything else, Rochelle had been driving me crazy with her constant demands to set her up with Jaguar, no matter what it took.

Until now, brushing off her requests had been relatively easy, but things were different now.

She could become incredibly dangerous if I continued refusing her.

What worried me most was the footage.

Even though Rochelle had assured me that there was no camera footage from outside or around her house that night, I couldn’t shake my fear.

She’d promised there was nothing to worry about, but how could I be certain she was telling the truth?

What if the cameras had captured something after all?

But then again, I knew the cameras at Rochelle’s house had been out of order for quite some time.

And it wasn’t as though they’d stopped working on their own.

Rochelle had deliberately tampered with them because Rocky used to come over, and her father didn’t approve of him.

So, in a way, that worked in my favor.

"How was the trip?" I asked Ragnar.

"It was great," he replied nonchalantly.

I desperately wanted to be upset with him for going away with Verity, but after what Theodore and Jaguar had done in the parking lot because of me, I couldn’t afford to speak against her again, especially when I’d come here specifically to apologize to her.

At first, I hadn’t been willing to do it, but eventually, I’d convinced myself that I had no choice.

I couldn’t keep behaving that way.

The brothers had personally requested that I apologize to Verity, and although the thought had completely crushed me, things had eventually worked out in my favor.

So I knew I had to play my cards carefully.

In fact, the trip Ragnar and Verity had taken together had given me a considerable advantage.

Just then, I noticed Verity had finally arrived at the office.

I could see her through the glass door as she approached, knocked on the already open door, and waited for Ragnar to acknowledge her.

He motioned for her to enter with two fingers.

Verity stepped inside, glanced at me, and immediately turned away without greeting me.

Of course she didn’t. Why would she bother now that she knew she had some power of her own, thanks to her two mates?

"Here are the files. I worked on them throughout the car ride, and I guess these were accidentally left with me," Verity explained, placing the documents in front of Ragnar.

I noticed that he didn’t even bother looking up at her.

"Can I talk to you for a moment?" she asked.

Ragnar slowly raised his head, finally meeting her gaze, and I caught the way Verity drew in a sharp breath.

So there was at least someone she was afraid of.

Or was she?

Ragnar shook his head. "Not right now. I’m busy."

With a sigh, Verity made her way to the corner of the room where her workstation was set up and settled into her chair, turning her attention to the computer.

But as soon as she was occupied, I noticed Ragnar looking in her direction.

He waited until she wasn’t watching before leaning back in his chair, resting one elbow on the armrest and placing his fingers beneath his chin.

His eyes remained fixed on her.

Something about it felt strange.

"Ahem-I –umm,"

Suddenly, I spoke up.

Ragnar didn’t even seem embarrassed about being caught staring at her.

He simply shifted his gaze toward me without moving his head.

"Actually, there’s something I came here to do," I began, finally drawing Verity’s attention as well.

She tilted her head slightly, holding a pen between her fingers and tapping it against the desk.

"Verity, I’m really sorry about the other day. I got angry because, well, you need to understand how much I care about Jaguar and Theodore. Seeing them fight like that genuinely frightened me, and I guess I let my emotions get the better of me. I’m really sorry. Do you think you can forgive me?"

Throughout my apology, Verity simply stared at me as though she didn’t believe a single word.

Good.

She should know I wasn’t genuinely sorry. I certainly hadn’t come here because I regretted anything.

"It’s all right. I understand," she replied.

And that bitch actually had the nerve to accept my apology in the softest, gentlest voice imaginable.

"Anyway, I should get going now." I turned toward Ragnar. "You need to come shopping with me. We also have to visit the venue and finalize the flowers, centerpieces, and everything else, okay?"

As I spoke, I rose from my seat and approached him, slipping an arm around his shoulders.

Then, deliberately making eye contact with Verity, I leaned down and kissed Ragnar on the cheek.

If she thought having Jaguar and Theodore wrapped around her finger gave her some sort of advantage, she was mistaken.

Because Ragnar was still under my control.

And unlike his brothers, Ragnar hated her for what she was doing to them.

With that satisfying thought, I left the office.

On my way to the elevator, I ran into Theodore and Jaguar, who were giving each other the cold shoulder, all because of Verity.

I simply couldn’t understand what had happened to these two incredibly intelligent, brilliant men.

How could they possibly fall for someone like her?

And more importantly, how could both brothers be in love with the same woman without feeling even the slightest bit awkward about it?
