Chapter 88: The blind boy
"Come on in." After finishing the demonstration and dealing with the elder and the Ladies, I was finally freed.
"Umm, excuse me then." Rainin just arrived here earlier this morning so it was his first time inside my room.
He was going to be with me for the next three years so he should get familiarised with the environment we would share for the next few months.
"It’s not as good as the room you had in the south but it’s a new place for me. I used to live in the annex building until recently, you see."
The demonstration of the things we could do wasn’t easy. I was too tired right now, and so were the others.
"Mii..." Art wanted something to eat, she had used too much of her strength.
{ "I will... take a nap... master..." }
Felix just went to her place and fell asleep. She had worked quite a lot today.
She deserved some good rest.
"Chirp~. Chirp!"
Nyx, on the other hand, was energetic as usual.
Since he didn’t work during the demonstration, he still has all the energy that he needed to start working on his side projects.
So, the first thing he did was to go and check up on his plant.
"...huh?"
The Hyperumbric Lily was just about to bloom now.
"Please sit anywhere you want. Make yourself comfortable, and I’ll go get some tea."
Rainin was surprised to see the blooming flower bud. He had seen the bloomed plant for a long time in their house.
It was a great trophy that their family kept with other treasures in their house, not locked but in the hall where everyone could see it.
The flower was said to be impossible to bloom, however, the strange white bird was looking after it in such a manner that it seemed to be actually blooming.
He was also taken aback by how many books there were in this room. This entire place, in fact, reminded him more of a laboratory than someone’s personal room.
"What’s that?" he was looking at a wall that was covered in strange runes right now.
"Oh, that..." but the voice that answered his question came out of nowhere. "That’s a side project the young master had been working on."
"...!"
Someone sneaked up on him and he couldn’t even tell.
"No need to be surprised, huhuhu." A maid was standing behind him, so close that he would have instinctively noticed her.
But, even when looking at her, he could not feel her presence. Not only was it strange, it scared the Serulian boy.
"Lexie! Don’t tease the guest. Come here, I need your help."
"Yes~."
The maid was by Sam’s side all this time so he didn’t think much about her.
But now that they were in his room, he was seeing her in a different light completely.
’She isn’t ordinary either.’
It was obvious to him now. None of these people were normal.
"Mii." Art walked up to him and looked at him with her light pink eyes.
However, Rainin could not meet her eyes knowing just what she was capable of.
He had heard the Sungrade elders talking earlier. He knew this seemingly ordinary creature was in fact a salamander.
For someone from the Serulian, the salamanders were an object of fear and envy. Their families were enemies exactly because a salamander had once destroyed about half of them.
He didn’t know what the circumstances were, but the animosity that persisted for generations was still going strong thanks to his mother.
"Mii." The salamander was calling out to Rainin, but he could not look at the creature. He was afraid of what it would do to him.
"Mii!" But Art didn’t like how he was ignoring her.
She crawled up on his legs, reading his hand that were placed on his lap.
Her fire did not hurt him. In fact, it was warm.
Strangely, it made him hold the creature. And before he knew it, he was feeling the flame on her tail on his cheeks.
"Mii~."
Art liked how he hugged her. She wasn’t angry anymore.
She hugged his face as well, but...
"Mii?"
When she saw his eyes, she felt a strange confusion.
"Mii! Mii Mii!.
It seemed like she had realised something, and quickly freed herself him his hands.
"Mii!"
She jumped and ran straight inside to find her master. It seemed like she had some information on the boy’s condition.
"Oh? You knew about it as well?" However, not even a few seconds after the blue lizard went inside, Sam walked out with her riding on his head.
"You don’t have to worry about it. We don’t have to explode them. There’s a better way." I mean, she was suggesting we blow up his eyes with her fire.
If we do that, that white lady will burn everything she has to come and kill us.
There’s no need to suffer like that when we can use a more traditional method.
"Do you like your tea sweet? You can add this cream and sugar as you like."
"Oh, thank you."
Lexie first served the tea from an enchanted teapot to both of us, and then she served the different sweets we had personally prepared for him on the table.
"I hope you enjoy them." I could tell he wasn’t very comfortable eating with us just yet, but he will get used to things soon enough.
"Come here." Taking Art off my head, I placed a delicious looking small muffin before her.
Unlike Nyx who mostly ate Mana ores, she liked eating what I was eating. She didn’t have to eat human food, of course, but she liked it because I liked it.
She was like Felix in that aspect. But sweets were her favourite, just like Alex.
’On that note, Alex seems to have fallen in love with another one of my partners.’
She loved Art. And since art was a spirit beast, the two hit off very quickly.
Now, Alex didn’t want to stay away from her. But they can’t be together all the time.
I need her as well.
"Hmm. This is good." It seems like he liked the taste of the special tea.
"It’s good that you like it. After all, you’re going to drink it everyday from now on."
"Hmm?"
By the time he finished his cup and placed it back on the saucer, he was feeling a strange dizziness.
"You might see some delirious things in the dreams but don’t worry about them. You’ll be fine."
He promised the white lady that he would curse his illness and he won’t need too long for that. A few doses would be all that he needs to get all better.
For his condition, it was the best poison he could have right now.
It was certainly not safe under normal circumstances, but, we have our ways.
"Let’s start now, shall we?"

He finished his part of normal tea and stretched out rubber gloves on his hands.
Lexie will drag him into the lab area and then he will cut him open...
Hopefully, he survives the first day of the procedure like the 10% of the people who received this treatment did in his past life =).
