Chapter 87: Demonstrating complex powers
What are the Levels of tamers according to the current world measures?
For most people, the levels are how the tamers are divided in different categories. The higher the level of the tamer, the better and stronger they are.
At least, that is the common understanding of the tamer levels.
But, that is not all.
’Tamers are complicated individuals.’
You are called a tamer when you form a bond with a beast in any manner.
The schools of taming exist and people who naturally form a bond with a beast without knowing about these schools choose them according to their own philosophy.
There are five schools of taming, but in the beginning, a bond with any beast is formed with natural affection and affinity or under certain circumstances.
Those who manage to form a bond with a beast are called tamers.
(Level-1) tamers are those who are just stepping into the realm of the tamers.
To have creatures around your house that you keep as pets and having them as your familiar beasts are two different things.
The unique bond between a tamer and the beast is so special that the entire tamer rankings are cantered around the strength of this bond.
’The equation is simple: the stronger the beast the higher your bond strength must be for you to receive a higher rank classification.’
When quantified, the bond strength can be measured on a scale of one to one hundred.
(Level-2) tamers are individuals who have two or more beasts of which the highest grade beast is (Uncommon-grade).
They must have a bond strength of 30 points or more with any of their tamed beasts to be classified as a (Level-2).
’He is technically on that level right now by the common standards.’
In a training field away from the Sungrade city, the elders were watching the demonstration of skills presented by their new favourite child.
He closely resembled the Sungrade patriarch, his father when he showed them the basic flame techniques that he could use right now.
He was cool.
The new partner that he met in the Sun Sanctuary allowed him to use the unique (Blue flames), fire that matched awfully well with his hair.
However, even though he only had three tamed beasts, he wasn’t like any other (Level-2) tamers.
’He has a Unique-rank beast as well as a Fable-grade Salamander now.’
The moment he obtained Felix, a unique beast, he should have become a (Level-3) tamer.
But, sadly, by common logic, the (Level-3) tamers have more than three beasts under them. Furthermore, the highest bond level they have crosses 50 points.
The tamers of (Level-4) have a bond level between sixty and seventy but even they only have a historical grade beast as their most powerful beast.
’His sister, Flora, is amazing to have reached her level with her unique natural beasts. But, he isn’t like her.’
(Level-4) is considered a dividing line between the tamers who have unfathomable talent or potential and those who are simply great.
’At (Level-5) things change.’
A tamer must possess five or more tamed beasts with an average bond level of 40 to 50 points.
Having a unique relationship with all of your beasts is uncommon already, but having more than two (SSR-rank) beasts is considered fascinating in any nation.
’The (Level-5) are also termed national assets by the mere virtue of their powers. And yet, a boy who only had three beasts under him right now was showing them things on par with those (Level-5) high tamers.’
As the Elder Lady watched the demonstration of his basic flame skills, she was reminded of how the current patriarch demonstrated his skills right after he obtained Eon.
The level of their bond was unique already, so the powers that he could borrow from his salamander surprised any of the elders at the time.
’Eon has a fire with a stronger poisonous nature than most salamanders, while on the other hand, Great Lady Artheria has flames of a unique nature.’
The blue flames were not poisonous.
All salamanders could be recognised by their distinct flames. Their flames have special properties that are unique to them alone.
-Booooooooooooooooom!
Fire had an innate destructive nature, but, the blue fire of the Blue Starfire was far more destructive than any flames the Sungrades had seen until now.
-Zaaaaaaaaa!
The blue flames were powerful enough to destroy anything the master of these flames wished. They spread and took over a limited area, burning on everything present.
They wouldn’t destroy anything outright, the ’control’ of their destructive property was the most special thing about them.
In an area that they had taken over, if Sam wished, they could destroy even a specific spec of dust.
-BOOOOOOOOOOM!
If he wanted, he could explode a rock, a tree, the very ground they were standing on, at their current level, the [] could destroy even a demonic beast of (SR-rank) in an instant.
’The destruction obviously consumed a great amount of his stamina and willpower.’
But the boy wasn’t weak either. The golden energy that he now possessed made him much stronger.
’But, how strong is he now?’
He has the wisdom and support of a phoenix, he has a mystique beast by his side, and now perhaps the strongest Salamander there is.
Plus, if that wasn’t enough...
-Ooooooooooooooong!
He could cast three different kinds of spells at once, something even some of the highest ranking mages find difficult.
Plus, he could overlap a spell and cast it ten times! Ten!
’If that wasn’t absurd enough, he was showing them something more right now.’
Three kinds of magic circles, all three a different color, and ten of each now present right above him.
His red eyes were glowing gold, while at the same time, the Salamander with its small tail-end lit on fire, was the medium that manifested these spells.
"A ten-fold triple cast..."
"I’ve only seen Lord Dove do something like that."
The Sungrade patriarch, watching this spectacular demonstration along with the ladies of the house, could only smile in amazement.
Right now, the only thing he wanted to do was to fight this son of his. Fight him and test the true battle limits that he wasn’t showing them right now.
The ladies who watched him were worried. They knew the cost of this great power... they knew it would do them no good if the truth of the identity of this small lizard is known.
The elders, on the other hand, were having their own worries.
’He’s an irregular.’
Regardless of how many beasts one has, when one obtains a Fable-grade legendary beast and their bond level with it reaches (10 points) they are categorised as a (Level-6) tamer.
’So do we say he’s a (Level-6) right now?’
To the elders, it was clear that the bond that Sam formed with Art was not simple. Elder Lady Testerosa saw the process herself and knew it wasn’t as simple as it looked.
The technique was different, the philosophy was different, even the way one needed to handle the ’strings’ was different than the other schools of taming.
It was unique, yet strange.
’But the creature he has tamed isn’t so simple either.’
The blue Starfire is known to be far more dangerous and powerful than what he could demonstrate right now.
So even if he was a (Level-6) by technical means, he wasn’t as strong as an actual (Level-6) tamer. At least, not by the experience.
’Those at (Level-7) are categorised as such because of the nature of the legendary beasts.’
Bonding with a legendary is a challenge that requires far too many right conditions. They are, by nature, different from any other beast there is.
The legendary beasts are extremely picky, their innate strength makes it impossible for them to bond with just any creature, and in addition to that, there are very few who have the required bond frequency to be attracted by them.
’That’s why it was so strange seeing so many of them fight over him in the sanctuary.’
Every being perceives a different bond frequency and a human has one that’s fixed for their lifetime.
Seldom there are those with a frequency unique enough to attract more than two unique beasts, but more than that?
’That’s what draws the line between a 6 and a 7.’
From what she had seen in the cradle, he had the potential to reach the uncharted realm of a (Level-7) by having an average of 50 or more points of bond strength with all his beasts.
’Those who have a (SSS-grade) by their side find it extremely difficult to use the powers of their other partners or tame anything that falls short of the legendary beast.’
The nature of their bond changes once a fable is added to the equation.
’But, right now, nothing of sorts seemed to be the case.’
All three of his beasts lived in harmony. They were happy together, in fact they were happier when they were together.
She was watching them these past few days and she knew this boy, for every single reason, was going to spread a storm throughout the world.
"This is absurd."
The boy even brought over a child of the damned Serulians.
"How’s this possible?"
The magic knight was watching the display of abilities while standing beside Lexie, just as surprised as any of them.
But, unlike them, he was an outsider.
Even with his blindness, he could see the blue flames and the destruction of the fire clearly.
He could see the illusions produced by the mystique skill, and as a mage himself, he could tell just how unbelievable those spells he was using actually were.
It did not make sense to him.
None of this, in fact, made sense to him.
