Chapter 312: It’s Too Cheesy
Normally, Janice should be happy about this matter, but Yvonne looked a little strange at this time. But Janice didn’t know what was strange.
"Why haven’t I heard you mention it before? When did you start?" Janice asked with curiosity.
Yvonne pursed her lips and said, "Some time ago."
"Oh! Are you still my best friend? Why didn’t you tell me before?" Janice harrumphed and said.
"At that time, we hadn’t confirmed the relationship, so I didn’t tell you." Yvonne said with some embarrassment.
Janice looked at her and thought for a while, "So now you have confirmed your relationship."
Yvonne replied, "Maybe."
"What do you mean? Remember, don’t be ambiguous with others. If you want to date someone, your relationship must be aboveboard." Janice reminded her word by word.
Yvonne pretended to stare at her angrily. "I know. You look experienced now."
Yvonne didn’t know who was crying and begging her to teach her how to make an affair with somebody at that time.
"I am indeed very experienced." Janice said.
Yvonne couldn’t help but chuckle at her proud appearance.
"Oh, by the way, how can your husband rest assured to let you come out alone tonight?" Yvonne suddenly asked.
Janice felt a bit guilty. "He ... Recently, here are lots of things at home to deal with. I can’t help much, so I’ll try not to trouble him. To tell you the truth, I sneaked out tonight."
She deliberately lowered her voice.
Yvonne was so shocked that she dropped her chopsticks. "What? You didn’t tell your husband that you came out?"
Seeing that she’s making a fuss, Janice picked up the chopsticks from the table and handed them over to Yvonne. "I’m not a criminal, so I still have my freedom."
Yvonne’s lips twitched, but she did not say anything else.
After a while, the dishes were served. They were both their favorites.
They chatted as they ate, feeling very cozy.
Janice even felt that if she were not pregnant, she would definitely drink some beer.
Otherwise she wouldn’t enjoy herself.
Just as she was eating cheerfully, her phone suddenly rang. When she saw that it was a call from Christopher, she hurriedly gestured to Yvonne to keep quiet and answered the call.
"Honey." She said.
Yvonne was still drinking. When she heard her sweet and obedient voice, she almost spat it out.
She thought inwardly, "Janice, that’s enough."
It was so cheesy that she got goosebumps all over her skin.
Ignoring her exaggerated reaction, Janice continued, "Chris, is everything done?"
Christopher said, "Yes, but I have to meet a friend temporarily. I can’t go back until later."
Janice thought to herself, "Perfect. I can stay outside for a bit longer."
But actually she still said obediently, "Okay, remember to come back early."
Christopher nodded, but suddenly he heard a noise. He frowned and asked, "Where are you? Why is it so noisy?"
Janice was briefly stunned before she realized that it was a commotion from the guest next to them. She hurriedly stuttered, "Oh, I’m at home. The noisy is from the television."
"Really?" Christopher asked doubtfully.
Janice moved her eyes and looked at Yvonne, "Of course! You can ask the nanny if you don’t believe me."
After saying that, she handed the phone to Yvonne with a pleading look on her face. Yvonne pointed at herself at a loss and said silently, "Me?" Janice nodded, putting her palms together and motioned: Please.
Yvonne was speechless. She took the phone and deliberately changed her voice, "Madam is at home. I’ll stay with her."
...
However, Janice did not dare to let her continue. She immediately took the phone. "Chris, did you hear that? I’m not going to talk to you anymore, I will take a shower."
She was afraid of exposing herself, so she hung up the phone in a hurry. She covered her chest and let out her breath, thinking that she finally got away with such a good excuse.
"I’m the nanny. Huh?" Yvonne teased her.
Knowing that she was in the wrong, Janice smiled and said, "Sorry, Yvonne. Thank you for your timely help."
Yvonne threw her a glance and rolled her eyes speechlessly.
"Aren’t you afraid your husband will find out that you lied to him and deal with you?" Yvonne asked her.
"I’m not afraid of him. I have a talisman here." Janice swelled her big belly.
She stroked her abdomen.
As soon as she stopped speaking, a familiar figure appeared at the door.
Janice thought to herself, "Why is he here? Is he here to catch me?"
She hurriedly said, "Yvonne, save me. My husband come here!"
"What?" Hearing this, Yvonne turned around and saw Christopher walking in.
Yvonne was stunned for a while. "Could it be that he’s here to catch you?"
"I don’t know. I can’t be discovered by my husband!" Janice put on a long face.
She grabbed the menu at the table and put it in front of her in disorder.
Yvonne was speechless. "I remember someone said that she was not afraid, and she had a protective talisman before."
Janice wanted to cry. It was true that she had a baby, but she couldn’t stand Christopher’s control. If he found out that she came out alone and even ate hot pot, he would definitely get angry.
She kept staring at Christopher’s figure with her dark eyes. When she saw him enter a private room not far away, she let out a sigh of relief.
"I’m so scared." Janice thought to herself.
"Did he see me just now?" She asked.
Yvonne replied, "I don’t know if he saw you or not, but..."
Yvonne deliberately elongated the end of her sentence.
"But what? Tell me, I’m extremely worried." Janice urged her.
Yvonne said, "There are so many routes here, but he chose to walk in our direction..."
Yvonne stopped there.
"What?" Janice said.
She thought to herself, "Oh, no! Am I so hapless?"
She felt nervous now.
Yvonne frowned and said, "All right, it’s not a big deal. We just have a meal. Don’t be so fussy. He would not say anything."
Janice thought for a moment, then agreed. No matter what, it was not easy for her to come out now. Why not have a big meal first?
With that thought, she buried her head in her food and ate.
When Christopher entered the private room, Joey was already there. Seeing Christopher coming in, he quickly stood up.
"Mr. Bateman." Joey’s face was full of anxiety.
Christopher walked over and sat down in front of him.
"Have a seat. What can I do for you?" He asked.
Joey then sat down and said, "You haven’t had dinner yet, right? I heard that the hot pot in this restaurant is quite good. Let’s eat first."
After saying that, he was about to press the service button on the table.
However, he was stopped by Christopher.
"Just say what you want to say, there is no need to eat hot pot." Christopher said.
Hearing what he said, Joey felt a bit uneasy, and he could only take his hand back, pausing for a while, "Okay, I’ll speak first."
As if he had made a big decision, he closed his eyes, stood up, and then knelt down in front of Christopher.
This action was so sudden that Christopher was stunned.
"Joey, what are you doing? Stand up first and tell me what happened." Christopher said.
He tried to help Joey to stand up, but Joey rejected him.
...
"Mr. Bateman, I beg you to forgive Sophie. She has realized her mistake and received what she deserved. Can you spare her for the sake of Anna and me?"
Joey’s words made Christopher’s expression turn cold in an instant.
He turned around and walked to the window, looking at the flashing neon lights outside. After a long while, he said without emotion, "
"Joey, karma is a funny thing. Sophie has the reward for her evil. I can’t forgive her." He said.
Joey nodded. "I know that Sophie’s end is caused by herself. However, she was completely unaware of her father’s affairs. What’s more, she was muddled when she kidnapped Miss Gladwell..."
"Enough." Before Joey could finish his words, Christopher stopped him coldly. He looked at Joey with a little disappointment. "Joey, I thought you were just temporarily bewitched by Sophie, but I didn’t expect that you wouldn’t even distinguish right from wrong."
Christopher questioned him.
Joey knew that he shouldn’t be like this, but he couldn’t control himself.
He explained, "Mr. Bateman, I know I was too selfish, but I can’t just watch Sophie go to jail. Besides, her current state of mind is not very good. I’m afraid she won’t survive for three years in there..."
Seeing that he was still stubborn, Christopher felt utterly disappointed. He couldn’t believe that Joey, who had grown up with him, would become like this. He didn’t even care about right or wrong because of a woman.
He suppressed his inner turmoil and said, "I don’t understand. In your eyes, what is left besides Sophie now?"
Hearing this, Joey closed his eyes, and it took a long time before he slowly spoke.
"Mr. Bateman, I’m not like you. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth and I didn’t have an excellent family background. I grew up in the Batemans and my father taught me to be a loyal servant." He said.
"But I don’t want to be a servant for a lifetime. Although you are very kind to me, you are still a high and mighty master to me. However, Sophie is different. From the very beginning, she was equal to me. After coming to the Bateman Family, she has always relied on me. She is afraid of thunder and rain, she will initiatively ask me to accompany her. When she is hungry, she will ask me for food. Furthermore, when she is sad, she will talk about her feelings. She doesn’t belittle my identity as a servant and left all her fragile side to me. She will cry in my arms and laugh in front of me." He recalled the past.
When Joey talked about Sophie, his face was full of dissimilar brilliance.
Those days were his greatest and the most important moments of his life.
Before that, he had never been so needed, and he had never been so valued.
"I know. She really took me as a friend." Joey continued, "If I hadn’t made a mistake when I was drunk that night, she wouldn’t hate me so much." Speaking of this, he lowered his head regretfully.
Christopher was exasperated at his stubbornness.
"But do you know why she entered the Bateman Family? She wanted to establish a foothold for herself. What’s more, when she made a mistake, she had someone to cover for her. Do you dare to say that you didn’t know about the misunderstandings between my mother and my father?" Christopher asked him.
Joey didn’t say anything.
Christopher continued. "It was exactly because of your accommodation that she had nothing to fear and thought that she always had your help. Joey, do you know that true friendship requires sincerity in addition to equality? Ask yourself, has she ever been sincere to you?"
