Chapter 313: There’s No Need To Hide, I’ve Seen You
Joey went silent. He knew that Sophie had a purpose indeed when approaching him in the beginning, but he still believed that she was sincere towards him. It is regrettable that the bit of sincerity was too insignificant.
But even so, he still wanted to save Sophie.
"Mr. Bateman, I know that I’ve done a lot of wrong things. I’ve let you down. I’ve let Madam and Master down. I have no right to ask you for forgiveness. But I can’t just watch Sophie go to the jail. I’m willing to pay off the debt for her. As long as you can let her go, I’m willing to do anything for you all my life." Joey said earnestly.
After saying that, he kowtowed to Christopher several times.
Christopher extremely had an aversion to it and even felt very sad about it.
"Joey, do you really think that I have only regarded you as a servant for so long?" Christopher asked him.
Joey kept silent and powerlessly lowered his head.
Christopher closed his eyes, suppressing the anger in his heart.
"If I regarded you as a servant, I wouldn’t have hidden all these things for you back then." He said with wrath.
"Mr. Bateman..." Joey was about to say something.
"Stop." Christopher interrupted him coldly. "Sophie not only hurt me, but also hurt Janice and my mother. Even if I forgive her, I have no right to make a decision for them. Therefore, you’d better give up."
After saying that, Christopher directly opened the door and walked out.
"Mr. Bateman... Mr. Bateman ... " Joey’s shout came from behind, but Christopher continued to walk forward as if he had not heard it.
He had his own principles on these things, and no one could shake him.
He strode toward the hall, and from a distance, he saw a figure sneakily hiding her face with a bag.
He scowled and walked over.
"You don’t have to hide anymore. I see you." He said.
With such a big belly, did she think that he couldn’t recognize her by covering her face? Christopher thought inwardly.
In fact, he saw her as soon as he entered the restaurant.
Janice raised her bag to hide her face, but Christopher’s voice suddenly came from above her head. She had no choice but to move away the bag guiltily.
She thought to herself, "How could I be so hapless? I started hiding as soon as I saw him coming out of the private room. Why am I still being discovered?"
She could only slowly raise her head to look at him.
"Chris." She blinked her eyes and called him in a flattering tone.
Christopher turned a blind eye to it. Not only did Janice come out alone, but she also came to such a crowded place to have hot pot. What’s more, she hid it from him.
The more Christopher thought about it, the angrier he became.
"Aren’t you at home with the nanny?" As he said this, he subconsciously glanced at Yvonne.
Yvonne suddenly felt a little embarrassed and quickly bowed her head to eat.
Janice also felt awkward. "Chris, I’m sorry. I... I lied to you."
She said in a low voice, like a child who had made a mistake.
Seeing her like this, Christopher instantly didn’t have temper. He said in resignation, "Have you finished eating?"
Janice nodded.
"Let’s go home." Christopher reached out his hand.
"OK." Janice obediently held his hand. Before leaving, she said apologetically to Yvonne, "Yvonne, I’ll be leaving first."
Yvonne quickly waved her hand and said, "Goodbye."
With the presence of Christopher, she was about to pass away on the spot.
Only then did Janice leave with Christopher.
When they arrived in front of the car, Christopher opened the door and helped Janice to get on. After helping her fasten the seat belt, he returned to the driver’s seat.
When the car was leaving, Janice saw Joey from the rearview mirror.
She couldn’t help being startled for a while.
...
"Did Chris just go to meet Joey?" Janice thought.
Thinking of this, she asked Christopher, "Chris, I saw Joey just now."
Hearing this, Christopher admitted. "Yes, I’ve just met him."
Janice wasn’t surprised, but she was curious about what they talked about.
"Then why did he come to find you..." She asked.
"Sophie is sentenced." Christopher replied before she could finish her words.
Janice was stunned for a moment, then blurted out, "How long?"
"Three years." Christopher said.
Janice wasn’t astonished. This was similar to what she had guessed before..
"So why did Joey come to find you?" She didn’t understand.
Christopher paused for a moment before speaking. "He wants to intercede for Sophie."
"Did you agree?" Janice asked.
Christopher replied, "She has hurt so many people. How can I agree?"
"Oh." Hearing what he said, Janice was relieved. It was not that she didn’t believe Christopher, but that Joey didn’t look like he was just begging for mercy.
"But Sophie is crazy." Christopher suddenly said.
"Crazy?" Janice was flabbergasted.
"I heard that she’s always delirious in jail. She called anyone she saw ’Anna’." Christopher said.
Janice got a mixed feeling when she heard this.
She didn’t care about what state Sophie was in, but when mentioning Anna, she couldn’t help feeling a little sad.
"Actually, Anna is quite pitiful. She has to face so many unbearable things at such a young age." She sighed.
"What? Have you been softhearted?" Hearing her sigh, Christopher frowned and looked over.
Janice shook her head. "Not really. I just feel a bit sorry for Anna and Joey. He worked so hard to raise Anna, but still has to run for Sophie."
However, Sophie had never acknowledged their existence, and this was the saddest thing.
Christopher said, "This is the path he chose by himself. He can’t blame anyone else."
"Does your father know about this? After hearing Sophie’s sentence for three years, did he have any respond?" Janice wad curious.
After all, Nathan was so partial to Sophie back then.
Christopher replied, "He doesn’t have time to worry about this right now."
Janice looked at him of with confusion.
Christopher paused for a moment before speaking. "The Bateman Group is about to have a new leader."
"A new leader?" Janice’s face was filled with shock.
It is well known that Nathan was the founder of the Bateman Group. What’s more, Nathan was the richest man in Tomaville and a frequent visitor on the Forbes list.
"Aren’t you going to help?" Janice asked him.
"Help? Why should I help him?" Christopher sneered.
"Isn’t that your father’s company?" Janice said in a low voice.
However, Christopher heard what she said, and he didn’t mind it at all.
"That’s right, he is indeed my father. However, there are many things that he decided by himself. He cannot blame others." He said.
Janice didn’t understand.
Christopher continued, "At that time, he was the one who wanted to separate us. He also hurt my mother’s heart. He got what he deserved and he brought this upon himself." Christopher said without mercy.
Janice could understand his feeling now.
In fact, she had dealt with her father in the same way.
Wasn’t she also decisive to her father? She asked herself.
Thinking of this, ever since they had met in the hospital before, she had not seen anyone from the Gladwells again.
However, the company’s accounts were still being liquidated.
She just didn’t know if the accounts had been settled.
With that thought, as soon as she returned home, she dialed to the finance department.
...
On the other end of the line, the finance department received her call and replied, "It’s almost done. However, the Gladwell Group can’t afford so much money at the moment. Furthermore, due to its poor management for a long period of time, it has also led to a lot of debts. I’m afraid..."
The staff said quite tactfully.
However, Janice understood it in her heart.
The Gladwell Group had fallen into decline a long time ago. If it weren’t because of Christopher’s investment, it would have been bankrupt before.
The Gladwell Group was just struggling for breath for a few years.
Certainly, it couldn’t afford those money.
In fact, when she threatened to liquidate, she had already expected it.
The reason why she did that was merely because she wanted to teach them a lesson.
But now, the arrow had to be released. Even if the Gladwell Group was in such a bad state, she still had to go on.
With that thought, Janice instructed, "Just do your own work. Don’t worry about anything else."
After hanging up the phone, Janice thought to herself, "I have performed my duty to my father."
If he had not been so greedy, she might not be so ruthless.
But there were no ifs in the world.
Everyone had to be responsible for what they had done.
But even so, she still felt a little sad inwardly. After all, the Gladwell Group was also her mother’s painstaking effort.
She put down the phone, got up and went to the bathroom.
In the bathroom, Christopher was bending over to fill her bathtub with water. When he heard her footsteps, he looked up at her.
"Why did you come in? The water is not ready yet." He said.
As soon as Christopher finished speaking, Janice stepped forward and hugged him.
Because of her big belly, she could only hold him on his shoulders.
Christopher felt that something was wrong with her and asked, "What’s wrong?"
He carefully turned around and pulled Janice into his embrace.
Janice couldn’t help sniffling.
"Chris, do you think I’m cruel? The Gladwell Group is about to go bankrupt, but I still want to collect the debts." She said.
Hearing this, Christopher gently stroked her shoulder and comforted her, "If you feel guilty, then stop. Anyway, we are not short of money."
"It’s not a matter of money. I just don’t want them to pester me like vampires. Do you know? If I let them go this time because they are pitiful, they will make it worse next time. Chris, I don’t want to go on like this." Janice said, feeling ambivalent.
Christopher paused for a moment and said, "Then let’s continue. People can only learn something after getting a painful lesson. If you feel unbearable, you can leave it to me."
Janice shook her head. "It’s unnecessary."
She knew very well in her heart that perhaps losing an arm would bring about extreme pain, but it was also a good way to solve the problem.
With that thought, she said firmly, "I can handle it by myself."
Hearing this, Christopher said nothing and took a look at the bathtub behind him.
"The water is ready, you can take a bath." He said.
Janice nodded. Seeing that Christopher still stood here, she reminded him, "Why don’t you go out?"
"I’m worried about you. Let me help you." After saying this, he was about to help her take off her clothes.
Janice immediately stopped him.
"No, you don’t have to... I can do it on my own." She said with embarrassment.
Christopher couldn’t help chuckling. "I have helped you before. Why are you so shy?"
His words made Janice feel even more embarrassed. She said inwardly, "Because I didn’t have stretch marks before." But since last night, her belly has been covered with a lot of stretch marks, which even makes her feel ugly.
Therefore, she did not want to be seen by Christopher.
Thinking of this, she said in a light tone, "Chris, just go out, please."
