Chapter 332: The Name Sounds Familiar
After that, he rushed out without waiting for Yvonne’s response.
Yvonne stared at his retreating figure as he left in a hurry. She furrowed her brows in confusion.
She accidentally saw a flower basket beside the bed and spotted the card on the flower basket.
"Wishing Mrs. Lynne’s boyfriend a speedy recovery."
Yvonne stared at the words on the card and thought, "Did someone send this mistakenly?"
"Mrs. Lynne?"
"The name sounds familiar, "She thought.
Just as she was wondering, her phone rang. It was a call from James. She picked it up with a grimace.
"I know you said that you were very busy, but it’s almost dinner time now. Should we meet for dinner?"
Knitting her brows, she replied, "I don’t have time today. Just tell me over the phone if you have something to say."
James gritted his teeth after he heard her. He relented, "Okay, let me ask you. Are you in the hospital now?"
"Yeah."
"Do you know why Stanley was hospitalized?"
James asked.
Yvonne immediately guessed what James was about to say when she heard his tone of voice. She was already feeling very sorry for Stanley about last night. She wouldn’t allow anyone to bad-mouth Stanley.
She told James directly, "I don’t want to know. I can ask him myself even if I want to know. You don’t have to tell me."
Then, she hung up the phone.
"Hey, hey, hey..."
James was beyond furious and wanted to smash his phone when she hung up abruptly.
"Why is she so stubborn? She won’t listen to anyone!"
"Mr. Taylor, the man we sent just now has returned. You have no idea how scary Stanley is. He drove everyone out as soon as Miss White arrived in his ward. If everything goes according to plan, he’ll be discharged today."
His assistant snickered. He tried to recompose himself the moment he saw the look in James’s eyes.
James glared at him and asked.
"Have you informed Mrs. Lynne’s assistant?"
His assistant replied, "Yes. He should be on his way now."
James curled his lips wryly when he heard his assistant. It seemed like something interesting was going to happen.
With that thought in mind, he picked up his coat and walked out of the door.
In the hospital, Yvonne was signing the papers for Stanley’s hospital discharge. She glanced at him and said, "It’s all done, Stanley. Let me send you home."
Stanley nodded.
The two of them walked out of the door. However, as soon as they reached the door, Stanley saw Mrs. Lynne’s car parked at the door. His face turned pale and he quickly held Yvonne with his hand.
Yvonne was confused so she asked, "What’s wrong, Stanley?"
Stanley was quiet. Deep down in his heart, he knew that he couldn’t leave the hospital like this. He wouldn’t be able to hide his relationship with Mrs. Lynne if Yvonne were to discover her car.
Besides, his lab project was about to end soon. He wouldn’t want to go back to square one.
Having reached this point in his train of thought, he muttered, "I left something in the ward. Can you help me to retrieve it?"
"Oh, okay."
Yvonne didn’t suspect him. She turned around and walked back to the hospital.
Stanley breathed a sigh of relief after Yvonne entered the elevator. He had nowhere to run so he had to deal with Mrs. Lynne first.
With that thought in mind, he adjusted his shirt collar and walked out of the hospital.
In a corner, James was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car, staring at their movements through the window. He wanted to see if Stanley would continue his act. However, after waiting for a long time, he spotted Stanley walking out of the hospital alone. But Yvonne was nowhere to be seen.
He was confused. Didn’t they walk out together?
While he was wondering, Stanley had already gotten in Mrs. Lynne’s car.
James stared at the departing car and sneered. "Looks like I’ve missed it again."
Just as he was about to drive away, Yvonne came out from the hospital.
...
James was surprised. It turned out that Yvonne was really there, but it was a pity that she was late and missed the good show.
Yvonne was confused when she returned and realized that Stanley was nowhere to be seen.
Where did he go?
She had searched for a long time in the ward but she hadn’t found anything. Stanley must have remembered wrongly.
Surprisingly, he was nowhere to be seen.
Yvonne looked around and still couldn’t find Stanley. Then, she took out her mobile phone and called him. However, no one answered the phone.
She frowned. "Why didn’t he answer his phone?" She thought.
Just as she was wondering, she received a message from Stanley on WhatsApp.
"Yvonne, I have some urgent matters to tend to so I left. I’ll call you after I finish."
Yvonne stared at the message filled with spelling errors. She chuckled. It seemed that he was really in a hurry as he made so many spelling mistakes.
Since that was the case, she had no choice but to go home.
With that in mind, she put away her mobile phone and walked to the car. She opened the door and got in the car, but she didn’t notice James who was hiding in a corner.
James followed Yvonne’s car as she drove away.
Yvonne didn’t realize that James was tailing her car. She drove to a real estate agency. Then she opened the car door and went inside the office.
Although James followed her, he didn’t enter the office with her. Instead, he sat in the car and lighted a cigarette while waiting for her.
"Looks like she’s not here to rent a room."
After all, he secretly ordered someone to stop her from moving away. He didn’t give much thought to it.
After that, Yvonne left the real estate agency and drove away in her car. Only then did James leisurely walked inside the real estate agency.
"May I know why did that lady come just now?"
James went inside the real estate agency and asked the employee, who had just sent Yvonne out.
The man looked him up and down.
"Sir, we’re obliged to keep our customer’s information confidential."
Frowning, James said, "To tell you the truth, she’s my girlfriend. We had a fight. I came here to check if she wanted to move out. Can you please tell me?"
He handed over his business card as he spoke.
The employee took his card and immediately changed his demeanor.
"Mr. Taylor, she wasn’t here to rent a house, she’s here to sell her house."
"Sell her house?"
James grimaced. "Why did she want to sell her house? What happened? Is she in an urgent need of money?"
James couldn’t stop thinking about it once he returned home.
In his mind, Yvonne shouldn’t be short of money.
As far as he knew, Yvonne still owned some shares in the White Enterprise. Even though the business wasn’t great, the company still distribute dividends yearly.
"Did something happenedhappen?"
He called for his assistant with his office phone.
"Go and check if Yvonne is tight on funds recently."
"Okay."
His assistant replied and turned to leave.
James was lost in thought.
Yvonne went back to the White family’s mansion after she left the real estate agency.
She had to prepare more funds even though she had put her house up for sale. It was almost time for the distribution of dividends again as she still had some shares in the White Enterprise. She wondered why she hadn’t received them yet.
When Yvonne entered the White family mansion, it was just in time for dinner. In the dining room, Brant was sitting alone at a large European-style dining table.
Yvonne was surprised. Usually, the dining table would be filled with people.
...
Knitting her brows, she went over to the dining table.
"Dad."
Brant lowered his head as he ate. He slowly raised his head when he heard Yvonne and was surprised to see her.
"Yvonne? Come! Let’s sit down and eat together. Mary, set the table for Yvonne." Brant said.
Yvonne frowned when she saw him. They hadn’t seen each other for a few days, but he looked more haggard than before.
She went to him and replied, "I’m not hungry."
"How could you not be hungry? It’s dinner time. Come and eat with me."
Brant said as he stood up and scooped some food onto Yvonne’s plate, looking very happy.
Yvonne didn’t stop him. When he sat back down, she asked, "Where is everyone? Why are you eating alone today?"
Brant froze when he heard Yvonne. He paused for a moment and explained, "They’re all busy.."
Yvonne was skeptical of his answer.
She would believe him if he said Grace was busy as she was in charge of all the affairs in the company.
But what about her uncles?
To put it bluntly, they had nothing to do. What else could they be busy with?
She stopped probing. "Dad, I’m here to ask you about the dividends. It should be distributed around this time of the year but I haven’t received it yet. What happened?"
She looked at Brant.
Brant was flustered by her question but he quickly regained his composure.
"Nothing happened. Your aunt might have forgotten about it. I’ll remind her when I’m back in the office."
Yvonne stopped asking after she heard his explanation.
She accompanied him throughout the meal before leaving.
It was already eight o’clock in the evening when she got home. She took a hot shower and glanced at her mobile phone. She wondered as there wasn’t any notification.
Stanley should be recuperating at home after being discharged from the hospital. Why did he suddenly become so busy?
What was he busy with? Could he take it since he had just been discharged from the hospital?
The more Yvonne thought about it, the more worried she became. She called him, but his phone was turned off.
She sulked. "Forget it. I’ll call him tomorrow."
She threw her phone aside, dried her hair, and was about to go to bed.
"Dingdong."
The doorbell suddenly rang.
Yvonne stopped and looked at the door in confusion. It was so late at night now. Could it be James?"
She recalled the two phone calls she received from him this morning, but they ended on bad terms.
What exactly was he trying to do? Did he really think that she was afraid of him just because of what had happened last night?
With that thought in mind, she gritted her teeth and went to open the door. "What do you want to say?"
James stood outside the door, fuming. He was annoyed. He sent someone to investigate why Yvonne put up her house for sale. Judging from the way she helped Stanley to look for sponsors for his lab project, he could roughly guess the reason even though he didn’t find out why she did that.
So he rushed back hurriedly. He couldn’t bring himself to ask her the questions when he saw her standing in front of him.
Yvonne thought it was weird that James was standing there quietly. She turned around and was about to close the door, but he stopped her.
"Are you helping Stanley to look for sponsors?"
He asked her directly.
Yvonne was surprised by his questions. She asked, "How did you know?"
