Chapter 333: Women Who Provide For Their Husbands Wouldn’t End Up Well
"Just answer me!"
James continued to probe.
Yvonne frowned unhappily and replied, "So what if I am?"
James thought to himself, "Sure enough."
"What if you fail?"
He asked tentatively.
Yvonne was shocked. She didn’t know why James would ask such a question. However, she remembered why she decided to help Stanley. So she turned around to answer James.
"It’s none of your business."
James wasn’t bothered by her reaction as he had expected it. He sneered and said.
"You’re selling your house to help Stanley, right?"
He went straight to the point.
Yvonne was taken aback. She stared at James for a long time before she asked.
"Did you... investigate me?"
James sneered. "Of course not, I’m not that silly. I just found out by accident."
Yvonne was a little embarrassed as her secret was exposed. After all, she wanted to keep this a secret.
"So what if I am? What are you trying to say?"
Initially, James made a rough guess before Yvonne replied to him. When he heard it from her itself, anger hit him so hard that he couldn’t speak for a moment.
Never would he have imagined that she would really sell the house for Stanley. How stupid she was!
Since the beginning of time, women who provide for their husbands wouldn’t end up well.
His mother was a very good example.
Back then, if it wasn’t for his mother’s support, how could his father have achieved such meteoric success?
How did he repay her after becoming successful? He cheated with his lover and gave birth to a child out of wedlock.
This was a precedent.
How could Yvonne spend so much money on Stanley? Moreover, he was a scumbag at that.
The more James thought about it, the bitter he became.
"Don’t be silly, Yvonne. You’ll only lose everything if you invest in him. You won’t get anything in return."
"That’s my business," Yvonne said, "Mind your own business, James. This is none of your business."
She turned around and was about to step inside the house when James grabbed her arm.
"I’m doing this for your own good. Why won’t you listen?" Hearing this, Yvonne broke away from his grasp and replied.
"I’m not a child. I know what I’m doing. You don’t have to worry about me. Also, don’t look for me anymore. I have a boyfriend, and I don’t want him to misunderstand when he sees us."
After that, she ignored James. Then she turned around and slammed the door.
James stood there with his fists clenched. He stared at the closed door for a long time before he returned to his own residence sullenly.
As soon as he entered his home, he took off his tie and threw it aside.
The more Yvonne was trying to prevent him from meddling, the more he was going to meddle in her business.
He wouldn’t just stand by and watch her fall into Stanley’s trap.
With that in mind, he took out his mobile phone and dialed a number.
"Tell the real estate agency that no one is allowed to sell Yvonne White’s house without my permission."
James’s words kept ringing in her ears after she returned to her room.
"Don’t be silly. If you invest money in Stanley, you will only lose everything in the end."
Actually, she also thought that she was too impulsive when she returned from the real estate agency. She made her decision hastily when she decided to help Stanley by selling her house.
After all, she hadn’t known Stanley for a long time. It was indeed risky for her to invest so much money in his lab project.
But as his girlfriend, she couldn’t watch Stanley’s lab close down.
This was especially true because she had witnessed how hard he had worked. She couldn’t bear to see him being dejected.
....
Moreover, she had always thought that money would come and go. It wouldn’t matter if she lost the money since she could always make more money in the future.
However, this wasn’t the case for dreams and ambitions. It would be difficult for Stanley to regain his enthusiasm after he failed. Plus, he wouldn’t even dare to dream about it again if he were to fail.
She could lose the money she had, but she didn’t want Stanley to lose his dreams and ambitions.
This was especially true for someone with her personality, even more so for someone like Stanley.
Everything was worth it if she could spend money to buy a dream they all wanted to realize. It wouldn’t matter even if she were to lose everything in the end.
She felt less conflicted as she thought about it.
The next morning, just as Yvonne was about to call Stanley, her phone rang. It was a call from Stanley.
"I’m sorry, Yvonne. I was too busy yesterday and I didn’t return your call. Are you angry?"
Stanley’s apology could be heard from the phone.
Yvonne replied, "I’m not angry. I’m just worried about you. You just got discharged from the hospital and you need to rest."
"I know, but I am fine now. My treat for dinner tonight? Just treat it as my apology."
Yvonne nodded and replied, "Okay."
In the evening, she met Stanley in a restaurant.
Yvonne’s first reaction when she saw Stanley was to check his arm injury. She was relieved when she saw that the scars had faded. "Stanley, please answer my calls next time. I would be worried if you miss my calls."
"Sorry, Yvonne. I won’t do it again."
Stanley apologized.
Yvonne stopped pushing for it after she heard him. She asked, "By the way, what have you been busy with recently? I haven’t heard of any urgent matters in the hospital that requires your attention."
Stanley was taken aback momentarily when he heard her. He quickly replied, "It’s not a big deal. I just had a few difficult surgeries and I don’t trust other people, so I had to perform them myself."
Yvonne didn’t doubt him after she heard him.
After all, Stanley was a specialist when it comes to surgery.
Not long after, the waiter came to serve the dishes.
During the meal, Stanley was particularly attentive and kept serving Yvonne.
Even though Yvonne wasn’t used to it, she enjoyed the care and attention showered by Stanley.
After dinner, both of them took a walk by the river. When they reached the entrance of her residence, Stanley asked, "Any updates on the funds for the lab project, Yvonne?"
Yvonne’s heart sank. She realized that she wouldn’t be able to gather the funds so quickly as she had just put her house up for sale. She paused for a moment and replied, "I’m working on it. I should be able to gather it soon."
Stanley frowned unhappily when he heard her. He thought to himself, "The White family is rich. Couldn’t Yvonne just ask her family for the money? Why is she putting up an act? Hasn’t he done enough to make her happy?"
With that in mind, Stanley stepped forward with a smile. He placed his hand on her shoulder and said, "Yvonne, I’m not urging you. I just want to end this matter as soon as possible. After all, I can only plan for our future when this is solved. Please bear with me for now."
He spoke gently.
Yvonne lowered her head shyly when she heard him. "Stanley, have you really thought about our future?"
"Of course, Yvonne. I want to spend my whole life with you."
As he spoke, he slowly raised her chin and looked at her lovingly. Slowly, he moved his cheeks closer and closer, edging towards her red lips naturally.
...
Yvonne closed her eyes involuntarily. But, just as Stanley was about to kiss her...
Suddenly, an ear-piercing ringtone could be heard.
Both of them were shocked. Stanley was the first to react. He took his phone out and his expression stiffened.
"Well... Yvonne, it’s getting late. You should go back."
Stanley rejected the phone call and mumbled awkwardly.
Yvonne had yet to recover from her daze. She was surprised after she heard him.
"Stanley, didn’t you say you wanted to visit my house?"
She bit her lip and invited him.
Stanley looked conflicted. "Yvonne, I’m sorry. I have something to do tonight. Maybe another day."
Yvonne felt dejected when she heard him. Being considerate, she said, "Then go ahead with your work. Take care of yourself and don’t work too late."
Stanley nodded. "Go up quickly."
Yvonne waved to him, turned around, and entered her house.
Stanley stood in front of her house. When Yvonne went inside the house, he made a phone call as he walked out of Yvonne’s residence.
"Mrs. Lynne, didn’t we agree to part ways..."
Yvonne recalled Stanley’s question about the funds after she returned home. So she called the realtor and inquired about the progress of the sale.
However, the realtor stuttered and didn’t answer her questions.
Yvonne frowned. "Looks like this realtor is not efficient. I would have to make a trip to another real estate agency tomorrow."
Then, she stopped thinking about it and went to the bathroom to wash up.
Early the next morning, she went to a few other agencies. She even lowered the price so she could sell her house as soon as possible.
However, there was still no news even after she slashed the price.
She couldn’t help but feel confused.
Her house was one of the best in Tomaville in terms of location, layout, furnishing, or the surrounding environment. There were many schools around her house too.
Besides, her selling price was much lower than the market price. It didn’t make sense that no one would buy her house even after such a long time.
Yvonne could not wait any longer.
Plus, Stanley had been asking about the funds.
She felt bad for him even if he didn’t ask.
So this morning, she called the real estate agency to urge them again.
That afternoon, she received a message from the realtor that she had a buyer for her house. The contract could be signed when a date was set to sign the contract.
Yvonne heaved a sigh of relief when she heard the news. "Finally, there’s hope!"
She returned home in the evening. As soon as she reached the elevator, Yvonne saw James, who was waiting for her at the elevator.
James also spotted Yvonne.
This was the first time they had met since the argument that night.
Strangely enough, even though they were living across from each other, they had not come across each other in the past few days.
If they hadn’t met at that moment, she would’ve forgotten about his existence.
The two of them looked at each other, but neither spoke. When the elevator door opened, they went into the elevator one after another.
They stood far away from each other after they got into the elevator.
However, as the elevator went up, there were fewer and fewer people in it. When it reached the 12th floor, only the two of them were left. All of a sudden, the atmosphere in the elevator was tense.
At first, Yvonne didn’t give much thought to it.
After all, she had no feelings for James. She wouldn’t have remembered him if he had not pestered her.
