Chapter 277: Staying Ahead Of Competition
Hearing his words, Yvonne was annoyed.
"James Taylor, have you forgotten what you had promised me?"
James knew what she meant and hurriedly said, "Of course I didn’t. I just wanted to hear your voice. That’s all."
She frowned. If she had known that he was so annoying, she would not have picked up the call.
"Well, now that you have heard it. I’m hanging up."
She was about to hang up the phone when she heard him speak.
"Don’t, you finally picked up my call. Can’t we chat a little?"
She rolled her eyes.
"What else do you want me to say?"
James paused for a moment then continued, "Are you still angry about what happened during the day? I admit that I was blunt. I promise you that I won’t do it again."
Hearing his assurance, she frowned. She was no longer angry.
After all, what he said was the truth. She was angry because she was in a bad mood.
So, she said, "I’m not that petty. I’m not angry."
"Really?"
"Really."
He took the opportunity to propose, "Let’s go out for dinner. I’ll treat."
Hearing his invitation, she frowned. "I appreciate it, but I don’t want to go out tonight."
"Then I’ll order takeaway for you. Give me your address."
"James Taylor, do you think I’m stupid? I can order my own takeout. Why do I need you to do that?"
"I’m just worried that you won’t eat because you want to lose weight," he said with a smile.
She furrowed her brows again and said, "I know when to eat when I am hungry. You don’t have to worry about it. Bye."
With that, she hung up the phone.
He listened to the beep and there was nothing more he could do.
He is such a failure. Up till now, he hadn’t been able to get her on a date. However, knowing that she was no longer angry with him, he felt much better. "Seems like my plan is working. I have to continue tomorrow." Thinking of this, he called his assistant again.
The next day, Yvonne went to the hospital early in the morning. When she arrived, a few colleagues were already there.
"Morning."
"Morning."
After saying hello, she went to the changing room and put on her white coat. When she was about to go to the consulting room, Stanley came in.
"Good morning."
She greeted him with a smile.
Seeing the smile on her face, he was slightly surprised.
After all, she looked haggard the day before.
He said, "You came in pretty early."
"That’s right. I wanted to be early. The slower ones have to start early. Ha ha. We need to be more proactive to win the race."
Hearing this, Stanley laughed. "You seem to be in a good mood today. Making jokes about yourself."
She did not say a word but grinned. In her heart, she thought, "Count the blessings as they come. Regardless, of being happy or not, it’s another day. It’s already quite oppressive in the hospital. If she looks gloomy and stern, won’t the patients be frightened when they see her?"
She said, "I’ll get going."
He nodded, but when she reached the door, he suddenly said, "By the way, I have something to ask for your opinion."
"What is it?"
"Well, we don’t have enough doctors on duty for the wards. Are you willing to go stand in for a few days?"
She thought about it for a moment, before she could speak, he explained, "It’s just a thought. I figured that you could get some exposure and experience there before coming back to be a consulting doctor. You might benefit from it."
...
Of course she knew his intention.
Her first hospital assignment was an internship as a resident doctor. Every day, she followed her supervisor like his shadow and did basic medical work.
It was messy, tiring, and unfulfilling.
It wasn’t that she was afraid of hard work, but she didn’t want to go back to where she had come from.
After all, she was no longer the intern she used to be. She had three years of clinical experience and should be a formal clinical doctor.
With these thoughts in mind, she declined politely. "Thank you for your thoughtfulness. However, I still want to challenge myself."
Hearing what she said, he did not insist. He encouraged, "Go for it!"
She nodded and turned to leave.
When she arrived at the consulting room, she was astonished to find that it was full of patients waiting for her.
Even the afternoon slots had been booked.
When she declined Stanley’s proposal, she was still a little worried.
She was worried that she would be slapped in the face by reality.
Yet, to her surprise, reality was not so cruel. She was so excited that she wanted to jumped in joy.
The morning passed quickly as she got busy.
She had her hands full all morning. Even though she didn’t get any breaks at all, her heart felt rejuvenated.
After work, she went to the changing room in a good mood. She texted a message to Stanley asking him if he wanted to do dinner at the cafeteria.
As soon as she came out of the changing room, a colleague came over and told her that someone was looking for her.
She was taken aback. "Who can it be? Not many people know I am here."
She walked out slowly, and when she saw the person standing outside the door, she was shocked.
"Yvonne, I finally found you. You should have told us that you are at First Medical Group. We were looking for you."
While Yvonne was still in a daze, the other party had already walked over. "Why do you look so blank? You don’t recognize us?"
The woman said reproachfully.
Yvonne snorted coldly in her heart. Of course she recognized them.
It was Aunt Lisa and Aunt Jane. The gossipy duo.
"Why are you looking for me?" she asked coldly.
"You haven’t been home for a long time. We were worried about you, so we specially came to visit you." Aunt Lisa ignored her cold attitude.
"Visit me? For what? I still have work to do. I’ll catch you another time." She turned and was about to leave when she was stopped.
"What’s the matter? I’ve asked. You’re off work now. Let’s go. We have booked a place for dinner."
She grabbed Yvonne’s arm and was about to leave.
Yvonne was unwilling to go with them, but they were in the hospital. It wasn’t appropriate to create a scene in public.
But it would not be pleasant to go out with them just like this.
While she was hesitating, she saw Stanley walking toward her from not far away. With her quick thinking, she broke away and said, "I’m sorry. I’ve already made an appointment with someone. Let’s go another day."
As soon as she finished speaking, she hurriedly walked toward Stanley.
"Stanley, let’s go to the cafeteria."
Then, ignoring Stanley’s surprised look, she pulled him to the cafeteria in a hurry.
Seeing this, Aunt Jane and Aunt Lisa followed behind her closely.
