Chapter 321: My Husband Is Not That Petty
Ever since Yvonne established her relationship with Stanley, she changed completely. Not only was her mental state much better, but even the trouble with her family had been all forgotten.
Anyway, she already had a boyfriend, so they couldn’t force her.
In the future, she would no longer be alone.
Thinking of this, Yvonne couldn’t help feeling happy.
She thought that she would no longer be afraid of those people in her family. She could live the life she wanted.
She even couldn’t help planning her future with Stanley.
Thinking that Stanley would always be in her life, Yvonne could not help feeling excited.
Even when she went to work, she couldn’t help giggling at the equipment.
One morning, while she was sitting in her laboratory in a daze, a colleague noticed her and asked curiously.
"Hey, Doctor White, why are you in such a good mood recently?"
Yvonne blushed slightly.
In her heart, she thought, "It’s a good thing, but it can’t be announced to the public for the time being. After all, this kind of work relationship is not very good, and it’s not the right time yet. It’s not too late to tell everyone when there’s an opportunity in the future."
Thinking of this, she replied with some embarrassment, "It’s nothing."
Fortunately, her colleague did not ask any more questions.
At noon, her phone rang. It was a call from Janice.
Yvonne recalled the advice Janice had given her the last time.
She thought that she could confidently tell Janice now that she was Stanley’s girlfriend.
Thinking of this, the corners of her lips couldn’t help curling up as she answered the phone.
"Janice."
On the other end of the line, Janice seemed to have sensed her joy and asked, "You seem to be in a good mood today."
Yvonne nodded with a smile. "That’s right."
"Is that so? Tell me about it."
Yvonne subconsciously looked around at her colleague, and whispered, "Are you free? Let’s make an appointment to meet and talk."
"Sure," said Janice. "I was just about to ask you out for lunch. Are you free?"
Yvonne thought for a moment and said, "Yes, but are you sure your husband will let you out?"
She could never forget the scary look in Christopher’s eyes that day.
Janice responded, "I’m just nurturing the fetus, not going to jail. How can he be as scary as you say? Furthermore, my husband isn’t that petty. As long as I tell him, he won’t stop me."
"Well, see you at noon later."
Both of them reached an agreement.
At noon, they met at a private restaurant.
"How did Janice find this place?" Yvonne thought to herself, "I used all my strength to find this place. It’s not easy to find, not even the navigation system knows."
Janice smiled mysteriously. "What do you think? It’s a secret location, a place that my husband booked."
Yvonne thought to herself, "As expected."
She knew that this wasn’t Janice’s style.
"Then it goes without saying. What we are going to eat later must have been pre-booked in advance."
Yvonne said.
Janice smiled apologetically. "I’m sorry, my husband did order in advance. But if you want to eat something else, you can add on orders. Look, there are quite a few dishes here that you like, such as chopped chili fish, spicy pork..."
"What about you?"
Yvonne interrupted.
...
They were all dishes unsuitable for pregnant women.
Janice could only smile sheepishly. "I... I’ll just watch as you eat."
Yvonne couldn’t help complaining when she saw her pitiful look.
"Forget it. You are now pregnant. Everything should be based on your diet. I am aware of this."
"Then I’ll have to trouble you to eat the same as me."
Janice chuckled.
Not long after, the dishes were served. Sure enough, it was what Yvonne expected.
They were all meals for pregnant women, healthy, bland and not appetizing.
"By the way, you suddenly asked me out today not just for lunch, right?" Halfway through the meal, Yvonne asked.
Janice briefly paused before she placed her cutlery down. "Yes, and it’s regarding my father."
"Your father? What’s wrong?"
Yvonne asked.
Janice was silent for a moment before speaking.
"The doctor said that he only has about three months left to live."
"So sudden?"
Yvonne was taken aback.
Janice nodded. "When I heard, I was shocked as well. I thought that he could delay it for at least a year or so, but I never expected it to be so fast."
The more Janice said, the more depressed she became.
Yvonne knew that the most painful thing for cancer patients’ family was the constant changes in their condition. She comforted her softly, "Janice, don’t be sad. It may not be a bad thing for cancer patients to end their suffering as soon as possible."
Janice nodded. She understood what Yvonne had said, and after she found out that her father had cancer, she had made mental preparations for his condition to worsen at any time. However, it was still a blow to her.
She said, "I know all of this, but I just can’t accept it. I hated him before I found out that he had an incurable disease, and I also wanted to cut off contact with him, but in the end, I still can’t get myself to do it. Yvonne, am I too unprincipled? He has done so many things to hurt me, but I still can’t let him go. I want him to live in this world for one more day, as if that will make me feel more at ease."
Janice sighed.
Yvonne could understand her feelings.
In fact, it was the same for her. She hated her father’s cowardice and that he had failed to fulfill his duty as a father. However, even so, she was unable to sever the blood ties between them.
Perhaps this was the magical effect of familial love.
She paused for a moment and said, "Isn’t there a saying that goes, ’once parents are gone, you become orphaned’. Perhaps what we can’t let go of is the comfort in the bottom of our hearts. It’s a kind of love that has been rooted in us since birth. It has nothing to do with time, right or wrong, or even the amount of love we received. Maybe we can’t explain it even if we tried."
It made sense as Janice thought about it. There were many things in this world that couldn’t be explained clearly. In fact, it couldn’t even be described as "right" or "wrong".
Especially familial relationships, they were so messy and intertwined.
Rather than dwell on this, it was better to make use of these three months left to end things nicely between her and her father, so that the time would not be in vain.
Thinking of this, she felt much more relieved.
"Well, let’s stop talking about me. Let’s talk about you. What was the good thing you mentioned earlier on the phone?"
Janice changed the subject.
...
Yvonne paused for a moment and said directly, "We have confirmed our relationship."
Janice froze for a moment before reacting. "Really? That’s great. Congratulations." "Thank you."
Yvonne was a little embarrassed.
"But what about James? He moved to stay close to you."
Janice remembered to ask.
Yvonne merely shook her head and said.
"He’s not interested in me for quite a while now."
"How do you know?"
Janice was shocked.
"I can feel it." Yvonne replied.
Janice didn’t believe Yvonne.
Although she did not know James very well, she knew that he was not the kind of person who would give up easily.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have moved near her.
However, since Yvonne had said so, there was no need for her to say anything else. "Then congratulations on being with the person you like." "Thank you."
After they parted, Yvonne made a trip to the hospital.
She wanted to give Stanley a surprise, so she went without calling him.
When she entered the hospital, it was break time. There were not many people in the hospital lobby.
Yvonne knew that many of her colleagues were in the lounge at this time, so she went straight there.
When her colleagues saw her, they were all very polite.
Yvonne knew that they had found out about her identity.
After all, the workplace was realistic.
She didn’t care at all.
When she walked in, she did not see Stanley, so she thought that he might have gone out.
So she called him, but no one answered.
Yvonne thought to herself, "Where did he go? Why didn’t he answer the phone?"
As soon as she left the lounge, her phone rang. She thought it was Stanley, but it was James.
She picked it up with a frown. "What’s the matter?"
James said, "Come out and meet me."
Yvonne agreed because she still had some time before work.
The two of them met at a quiet cafe.
"I don’t have much time. What do you want to say? Hurry up."
When they arrived, Yvonne asked directly.
James was not in a hurry. Instead, he took a cigarette and played with it in his hand. He asked, "Do you really want to be with that Levingston guy?"
Hearing his question, Yvonne did not hesitate to say, "That’s right."
James frowned and then nodded.
"Then take a look at this."
As he spoke, he took out a leather bag and handed it over.
Yvonne looked at the leather bag and asked hesitantly, "What’s inside?"
James replied, "Just take a look and you’ll know."
Yvonne took the leather bag. Under James’ gaze, she glanced inside and found that there was a stack of photos.
She did not quite understand. So, out of curiosity, she took out the photos.
She was stunned when she saw the person in the photos.
In the photos, Stanley was with a fat woman. In the photos, they were holding hands, or hugging each other’s shoulders, and some photos were of them whispering to each other. They looked quite intimate.
"Where did these come from?"
Yvonne raised her head and asked.
James knocked the cigarette butt on the table and said, "It doesn’t matter where I got it, as long as you can know the truth."
