Chapter 304: Are You Going Out?
James glanced coldly at the wine glass Stanley raised, turned his head, and began to chat with William again, ignoring him. Stanley was standing there, holding the wine glass in his hand. It seemed improper to him either to drink the wine or put the glass down, which was extremely embarrassing. He had thought James had recognized him and was willing to talk to him because James had been looking at him, but it turned out he hadn’t meant it at all. It seemed Stanley had flattered himself, so he could only sit down awkwardly.
William was a smart person, so he quickly had speculation. He glanced at Stanley who was sitting there, and a sneer crossed his eyes. And then he made an order to one of his subordinates. After the subordinate got the order, he walked towards Stanley with a glass of wine in his hand. "Dr. Levingston, I heard you’re a highly paid expert, and I want to make a toast."
While speaking, he raised the wine glass highly. Stanley was still in the frustration of being ignored by James. When seeing someone coming over to drink with him, he quickly got up and said with a smile, "This is very flattering."
"Come on, everyone! Come over to drink with Dr. Levingston."
With that, everyone else got up. Then the atmosphere became warm and electric. Stanley was a little flattered when he saw this. He thought he had managed to make a connection with James, so everyone came to compliment him. Therefore, he kept an open house and drank with all of them. Soon, he got wasted with his head dropped to the table. Looking at Stanley who was as drunk as a jellyfish, James snorted, got up, and walked out. Seeing this, William followed up.
One of his subordinates asked, "Mr. Roger, how do you want us to deal with this person?" William frowned, glanced at James who was walking in front, and then said, "Get a room for him in the hotel nearby."
"OK."
When William’s subordinates were just about to help Stanley up, his cell phone suddenly rang, so they paused their actions, not knowing whether they should answer the phone.
"Wait."
James turned around and looked over, saying, "Give me the phone."
"OK."
A man handed Stanley’s phone to James. James took the phone, glanced at the screen, and found it was Yvonne calling. He instantly remembered the scene of him and Yvonne sending this man home together. He sneered, then decisively switched the phone off, threw it back, and walked away. Yvonne had originally wanted to ask Stanley how everything was going on, but the phone had been switched off after ringing a few times. She couldn’t help but feel a little worried. Stanley’s tolerance to alcohol was low, so he got drunk every time he went out to do networking. If she didn’t go to pick him up, he might have to sleep on the street. She didn’t know how everything was going on tonight.
But his cell phone was turned off, and she couldn’t contact him at all. What should she do? Yvonne was kind of anxious. She kept walking back and forth in the room but couldn’t figure it out. Seeing it was gradually getting late, she got more worried. She hesitated for a moment and decided to go to Durotte Square to try her luck, where he often went to. So, she quickly changed her clothes, took the car key, opened the door, and went out. But as soon as she arrived at the elevator, she ran into James who was coming out. Their eyes met inadvertently.
Yvonne had been angry with James for two days, but she still didn’t intend to say hello to him. When she was about to pass him and got into the elevator, he stopped her. "Are you going out?" James glanced at the car key in her hand.
...
Yvonne nodded, intending to step into the elevator. "Wait! It’s too late. It’s not safe out there. Let me accompany you," James said.
Yvonne paused her step and turned around, "No, thanks. I’m going out to pick up my boyfriend, so it is improper for you to go with me."
James had guessed that she was going out for that gigolo, so he sneered, "Fine. But I’m bored and want to go out for a drive. Do you have any problem with it?" While speaking, he went into the elevator before Yvonne, without waiting for her answer.
Yvonne was worried about Stanley, so she didn’t bother to argue with him. She ignored him and went into the elevator. When they reached the underground garage, she found that James got in his car instead of following her. Therefore, she didn’t think about him anymore but directly drove her car out of the garage. James unhurriedly followed her car, keeping a proper distance. Soon, they came to Durotte Square. He sat in the car and watched her get out of the car and walk into the bar street. He snorted, "What a silly woman! She came out to pick him up without knowing where he is."
Although he was very upset, he got out of the car and followed up. Yvonne went into the bar street. Because she didn’t know where Stanley was, she looked for him in one bar after another. There were more than 20 bars and private clubs in Durotte Square. It took her almost an hour to scour this area. In the past one hour, James had been silently following her, parrying a lot of unnecessary trouble for her. Yvonne searched the entire Durotte Square but failed to find Stanley, so she returned to her car in depression. She sat in the driver’s seat and frowned when she glanced at the drunk people who occasionally passed by. Maybe Stanley had already gone back.
Thinking of what she had just done, she felt that she was making a fuss. Stanley was an adult, so he could take care of himself. At the thought of this, she sighed and drove the car back to the underground garage of Riverside Apartment. She then opened the door, got out of the car, and walked towards the elevator. However, she didn’t know that James’ car came into the garage just after she had parked her car.
He sat in the driver’s seat, watched her enter the elevator, lit a cigarette, puffed deeply at it, and blew out a big smoke ring. His eyes were flashing with coldness in the rising plume of smoke.
It wasn’t until noon the next day that Yvonne received a call from Stanley. "Stanley, what happened? Why couldn’t I get through to you last night?" Yvonne asked anxiously as soon as she picked up the phone.
"I drank too much last night, and my phone was somehow turned off," Stanley replied. Hearing this, Yvonne was relieved. Because she couldn’t reach him, she had been absent-minded all morning.
"Good. That’s a relief. By the way, where are you now? I went to your home this morning, but no one is there." Before coming to the lab, she had gone to his home because she had been worried about him, but he hadn’t been at home.
Stanley said, "I’m at a hotel." Yvonne thought, "It turns out he slept in a hotel last night. No wonder I couldn’t find him."
She said, "OK, I got it. Have a good rest. I will call you later."
"Okay."
Just as Yvonne was about to hang up the phone, Stanley suddenly said, "Wait! Yvonne, I have something to ask you."
...
Upon hearing this, Yvonne put the phone back to her ear and said, "Go ahead." After hesitating for a while, he asked, "The neighbor we met in the restaurant the other day. Do you know him well?"
Yvonne was confused, and it took a long time to realize that he was referring to James. She paused and said, "Not really."
"OK..." Stanley paused a long while before saying, "Fine. Then I’ll hang up first."
Yvonne said yes and then frowned when she heard the beep on the phone. Why had Stanley asked about James?
Had he misunderstood anything? Thinking of this, Yvonne felt worried. However, after thinking about it carefully, she felt that it was not a big deal. Anyway, she hadn’t cheated on Stanley, so there was nothing to worry about. But Stanley...
When he had said he was at a hotel, she couldn’t help think of the scene she had seen in the hotel the other day. Although she was willing to believe him, she still felt a little upset. Usually, he would call her and ask her to pick him up if he got drunk, but he had slept in the hotel last night. However, Yvonne only complained about this matter in her heart but didn’t mind it, and then she quickly went to work. It wasn’t until the evening that Yvonne finished her work.
When she got out of the lab, the first thing she thought of was to call Stanley and ask him out for dinner to make up for last night. But when she called, Stanley didn’t answer the phone. Thinking that maybe he was busy, Yvonne went home first and took a hot bath. She waited until eight o’clock, but Stanley still didn’t call her back. She felt a little depressed and thought, "Is he so busy that he does not have time to call back?"
She then decided to forget it and have a date with him tomorrow. It was late, so she was hungry. She frowned while rubbing her empty stomach. She wanted to grab something to eat from the refrigerator, only to find it was empty. She didn’t know how to cook, so she barely had any other food at home except for fruits. However, she had been very busy during this period, so she had even forgotten to buy fruits. Looking at the empty refrigerator, Yvonne sighed helplessly. It seemed that she could only have a takeaway.
But she was not reconciled. How could she stay at home and eat a takeaway on this great evening? This kind of life felt miserable. At the thought of this, Yvonne dialed Janice’s phone number, and Janice picked up the phone immediately. Yvonne was startled and asked, "Janice, what are you doing."
Janice was sitting on the shoe bench while glancing at Christopher, who was squatting down while helping her put on the shoes, saying, "I’m going out for dinner. How about you?"
Yvonne frowned, "I’m alone at home."
"Would you like to join us?" Janice suggested.
Yvonne thought for a while and said, "No, thanks. I’m fed up with your PDA."
Hearing her words, Janice couldn’t help but smile, "Then quickly find a boyfriend, and you can show affection in public too."
Yvonne had already got a boyfriend, but she didn’t want to tell Janice about it yet. After all, she and Stanley had not confirmed their relationship. Thinking of this, she signed, "Then you will have to wait. But I promise I will show affection in front of you every day in the future." After ending the call with Janice, Yvonne felt melancholy again. So, did she have to eat a takeaway at home alone?
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Yvonne frowned, wondering who came to her so late. Suspiciously, she walked over and opened the door. James was standing outside. Seeing her open the door, he said, "It’s boring to have dinner alone. Would you like to join me?"
