Chapter 346: Leave Him
Li Hongqin and Little Tang Mo frowned in unison.
"Who are you?"
"Get out."
The two spoke at the same time. Li Hongqin didn’t recognize Ye Xilan, and neither did Little Tang Mo, but he did recognize the man standing beside her.
Little Tang Mo knew about Ye Xilan, this fake mother. Wu Sheng and Su Li had told him about her.
Once he saw the man and guessed Ye Xilan’s identity, Little Tang Mo didn’t hesitate to tell her to leave.
Hearing Little Tang Mo’s rude tone, Ye Xilan scoffed.
"What a rude bunch. The mother has no manners, and neither does the son."
She exhaled as she finished speaking, then suddenly realized something.
"Wait, weren’t you supposed to be a little mute? You can talk..."
"That’s enough," Su Li cut her off sharply. She took a deep breath and turned to Little Tang Mo.
"Little Mo, you’re still young. Don’t listen to this. Go wait outside for a bit."
Then she looked at Li Hongqin. "Sister Hongqin, you and Little Mo wait for me outside."
Li Hongqin didn’t move. Neither did Little Tang Mo.
"No way. I can’t leave you alone with her." Li Hongqin had seen plenty of crazy women, and even though Ye Xilan looked respectable, she could see her true nature.
"I’m not leaving," Little Tang Mo said even more bluntly, then pushed Su Li further into the room.
"What if she hurts you?"
Ye Xilan sneered at that. "Hurt her? I’d be afraid of dirtying my own hands."
She gave Little Tang Mo and Li Hongqin a cold glance, not caring whether they stayed or left.
"I’ve been waiting here for so long just to warn you again."
Ye Xilan took two steps forward, leaning down and looming over Su Li.
"Leave Wu Sheng. Leave him."
She straightened up. "You should have realized by now, after all this. Someone like you is just a burden to Wu Sheng. If you don’t want to completely ruin him and his future, then get lost and stay far, far away."
The corner of Su Li’s mouth twitched. "I’ve told you before, Wu Sheng has nothing to do with you. Stop shedding your crocodile tears. If you’re just here to spew the same nonsense, don’t bother repeating yourself."
Li Hongqin was completely bewildered. She couldn’t help but lean down and ask Su Li, "What’s her deal?"
Su Li glanced at Ye Xilan. "She’s delusional. Thinks she’s Wu Sheng’s mother."
Li Hongqin’s eyes went wide. Hearing this, Ye Xilan’s chest filled with rage.
"What do you mean, ’thinks’? I am Wu Sheng’s mother."
After roaring, she took two deep breaths to calm herself.
"Su Li, let me tell you, I’m not here to persuade you nicely this time. I’m here to give you an ultimatum!"
"Wu Sheng has a much better match, someone of his own standing. Not someone like you. As soon as he gets out, he will get engaged and marry her."
’This again? It’s the same old story. What’s the point?’
Su Li shook her head. "Alright, I get it. If there’s nothing else, you can leave."
She gestured for Li Hongqin and Little Tang Mo to push her toward the hospital bed.
Ye Xilan laughed at Su Li’s behavior, looking down on her.
"You don’t believe me, do you."
She’d clearly heard Su Li’s dismissal and the nonchalance in her voice. A flash of anger crossed her eyes, but she quickly calmed down.
"Do you think I’m just talking nonsense? Maybe last time things weren’t certain, but it’s different now. Su Li, do you have any idea who that girl is?"
Before Su Li could react, she answered with a soft laugh.
"She’s from the Bai Family of the north side. Compared to someone of your background, a prestigious family like the Bais is a true match for Wu Sheng."
Ye Xilan’s expression turned cold. "You still don’t know what kind of trouble Wu Sheng is in this time, do you?"
"Getting himself into trouble with the Yang Family by fooling around. Didn’t he even bother to find out who the Yangs are?"
"If they decide not to let Wu Sheng go, do you have any idea what the consequences will be?"
Ye Xilan snorted. "You don’t understand a thing, yet you dare to look at me like I’m a joke. How utterly ignorant."
Su Li finally turned back to look at Ye Xilan. "Yes, I may be ignorant in your eyes, but none of this is any of your business."
"Whether it’s the trouble Wu Sheng is in or our own affairs, we’ll handle it ourselves. We don’t need your concern, nor do we need help from a powerful lady like you."
The smile on Ye Xilan’s lips grew colder.
"Still talking tough. ’None of your business.’ Truly, you won’t shed a tear until you see the coffin."
She took a deep breath, her chin held high. "Since Wu Sheng was detained yesterday, what have you done? What can you do? Tell me, I’m listening."
"And what do you know about what *I’ve* done? Do you know what the young lady from the Bai Family has done?"
She shook her head, a disdainful smile on her lips. "The ignorant are fearless, aren’t they? While the young lady from the Bai Family is running around for Wu Sheng, negotiating with the Yang Family on his behalf, what about you? What can you do?"
Ye Xilan watched as Su Li’s expression finally changed, and she neatened her hair.
"Other than holding him back, what else can you do..."
She sighed and started to walk out.
As she walked, she muttered, it was unclear if to herself or to the others.
"Anyone who isn’t a fool knows what choice to make. As long as he marries the Bai girl, the Bai Family will be his backing. They’ll help him. What is there to fear from the Yang Family then..."
Ye Xilan swept out of the room.
Li Hongqin was furious. "What kind of person is she? Su Li, don’t listen to her. The Bai Family, what’s that? They can’t compare to you."
"Wu Sheng is very capable, isn’t he? He should be fine. Don’t worry."
Su Li forced a smile. "Yes, he’ll be fine."
"How can there be people like that in this world? She must be hysterical from wanting to be someone’s mother so badly. I’ve never seen anyone like her. Su Li, don’t mind what she said. She can’t make decisions for Wu Sheng anyway."
Li Hongqin’s attempts at consolation only showed that she, too, had taken the words to heart.
Su Li knew Li Hongqin was worried about her and squeezed her hand. "Yes, Sister Hongqin, don’t worry too much."
Little Tang Mo looked at Su Li’s expression and said nothing. Instead, he copied what Su Li often did, patting her on the head to comfort her.
Seeing Little Tang Mo, Su Li couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.
Su Li told herself not to worry about this so-called young lady from the Bai Family, but she never expected to meet her the very next day.
Before meeting the girl from the Bai Family, Su Li also received some news that was hardly good.
A man calling himself ’Yang Jiu’ had turned himself in early the next morning.
After an urgent interrogation, this ’Yang Jiu’ surprisingly confessed to everything.
He detailed how he beat Su Li, how he dragged her to the underpass, what he said, and he even provided a motive.
"I just couldn’t stand the sight of her. She’s not a proper woman. A woman should be faithful to one man for life. How dare she get a divorce! And if getting a divorce wasn’t enough, she found another man. Shameless!"
"I couldn’t stand it, so I taught her a lesson."
This was ’Yang Jiu’s’ motive.
The reason he despised Su Li so much was that he used to have a wife, but she couldn’t stand being with him anymore and ran away.
She later married another man, which is why he hated women who weren’t faithful to one man for life.
