Chapter 353 - 442: This Isn’t Good
In her previous life, Chloe Sinclair remembered this old mansion being named one of the ten most luxurious villas in the world.
Someone had once estimated the value of this old mansion to be as high as ten billion.
However, only Chloe Sinclair knew that the value of this villa couldn’t be measured in money at all.
Just the chandelier in the villa’s main hall was a masterpiece by a famous master sculptor, and a single rug cost as much as a million.
Jasper Shaw seemed completely used to it, saying, "Grandpa is waiting for you in the living room."
Chloe Sinclair froze for a moment, then followed Jasper Shaw through the main entrance.
Chloe Sinclair did a quick count. Just in the area from the entrance to the living room, there were over thirty servants, to say nothing of those in the back of the villa.
Chloe Sinclair couldn’t help but be amazed. ’How did Jasper Shaw even take an interest in me in our past life?’ she wondered.
Although she had fallen on hard times for a while, there was no denying that comparing the Sinclair Family and the Shaw Family was like comparing heaven and earth.
This was what a true tycoon family looked like.
As soon as Chloe Sinclair stepped inside, a maid in a sky-blue uniform brought over two pairs of slippers. Without a word, she placed the slippers down and stood off to the side.
Chloe Sinclair glanced at the slippers—one pair was pink, the other black.
A glint flashed in Chloe Sinclair’s eyes. Moving faster than Jasper Shaw, she snatched the black slippers.
Jasper Shaw paused, stunned, then broke into a smile. Without a second thought, he slipped on the pink slippers.
Passing through the entryway, Chloe Sinclair looked around.
Thinking Chloe Sinclair was nervous, Jasper Shaw took the young woman’s cold hands in his, rubbing his thumb over them as he said, "Don’t be nervous. I’m here."
Chloe Sinclair wasn’t exactly familiar with the old mansion, but she didn’t feel nervous about meeting Mr. Shaw, so she just nodded.
She took a few steps and heard the sound of a passionate speech coming from the television.
Chloe Sinclair looked over.
It was a tribute drama starring Gabriel Sinclair, who was playing the role of a revolutionary.
And across from the television sat a white-haired old man.
"Grandfather."
Seeing the back of his head, Chloe Sinclair immediately recognized the man in the distance as Mr. Shaw.
Mr. Shaw had heard Chloe Sinclair and Jasper Shaw’s voices a while ago but had resisted the urge to look back.
Now, hearing Chloe Sinclair’s voice, he immediately turned around, leaning on his cane, his face bearing a kind and benevolent expression.
The old man’s eyes were sharp. He glanced at Jasper Shaw, who was holding Chloe Sinclair’s hand, and his gaze deepened. "You, go upstairs first."
Jasper Shaw: "..."
Jasper Shaw froze, apparently not expecting his grandfather to tell him to leave the moment he opened his mouth.
He looked at the old man, his eyes full of confusion.
But the old man showed him no courtesy.
"I asked for Chloe, not you. What are you doing here?"
Jasper Shaw was left speechless by his grandfather’s words.
He shot Chloe Sinclair a pitiful glance and began whispering to her.
"Don’t be scared being here alone. The old man just looks fierce, but he really likes you."
"Call me if you need anything. My room is the first one upstairs."
Chloe Sinclair thought, ’It won’t be that much trouble.’
But Jasper Shaw was being so detailed in his instructions, so she nodded anyway.
Seeing this, the old man’s temper flared. He tapped Jasper Shaw’s thigh with his cane and snapped, "Did you think an old man like me would invite Chloe here just to bully her?"
Jasper Shaw’s gaze turned cold. He stared intently at the old man but didn’t say a word.
The old man was so angry his hand gripped his cane tightly. "Get out," he said irritably.
Jasper Shaw didn’t linger. Knowing his grandfather truly had something to discuss with Chloe Sinclair, he went upstairs alone.
After Jasper Shaw had left, the old man finally spoke. "Chloe, are you tired?"
With that, he had Chloe Sinclair sit on the sofa, while he himself sat on the corner of it.
The television was still on, and the old man stared at the screen, seemingly with no intention of saying anything more for the moment.
