Chapter 380 - 469: Roadside Stall
Jasper Shaw, who was just about to make up an excuse, didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
The bruises on his face were from a week ago, when the three Sinclair brothers had beaten him up overnight.
If it had been anyone else, they wouldn’t have been able to lay a finger on him, let alone touch his face.
But the Sinclair Family’s brothers were different. After all, he was the one who had stolen away their family’s only little treasure.
Whether they beat him or cursed him, he had to take it without complaint.
Seeing Chloe Sinclair’s serious expression, Jasper Shaw said resignedly, "It’s nothing. I ran into a door a few days ago."
Before Chloe Sinclair could get suspicious, Jasper Shaw quickly changed the subject.
"Didn’t I tell you to come later? Have you been waiting long? Your hands are so cold."
As he spoke, he tucked Chloe Sinclair’s hand into his pocket.
Warmth instantly spread through her hand. Chloe Sinclair immediately said, "This one too."
Jasper Shaw smiled helplessly, his voice full of indulgence. "Alright."
Ian Winters, who had just emerged with the luggage: "..."
He looked down at the suitcases in his hands and really wanted to curse.
The two of them made their way outside the airport. Not seeing Jasper Shaw’s luggage, Chloe Sinclair was about to ask if he’d forgotten it when she turned around and suddenly saw Ian Winters.
Chloe Sinclair froze for a moment, then asked subconsciously, "Assistant Winters, when did you get here?"
Ian Winters: "..."
His usually gentle eyes now held a hint of speechlessness, his gaze dark. "I’ve been right behind you and the boss the entire time."
’It’s no wonder you didn’t see me, not with the way you and the boss were all over each other.’
Ian Winters grumbled internally.
Chloe Sinclair immediately gave an apologetic smile. "I’m so sorry. I was just so excited to see Jasper that I didn’t notice you. Have you eaten? Why don’t we all grab a bite together?"
This time, Ian Winters refused without a second thought.
’A meal? Please. Even if I agreed, would my boss? If I went, I’d probably be replaced by Lawson from the secretarial department by next year. Besides, was I supposed to go and be their third wheel?’
Chloe Sinclair hadn’t expected Ian Winters to refuse so adamantly. She didn’t press the issue and simply drove him back to his apartment first, before she and Jasper Shaw returned to the villa.
Jasper Shaw hadn’t been back to the villa in half a year, but a temp came to clean every day, so the house was still very tidy.
Unlike the decor of his villa in Emberfall, the one in Kennet had a much more corporate feel. Even the bedroom curtains were black.
Chloe Sinclair found a pair of slippers and pulled open the curtains. Instantly, warm, gentle sunlight streamed in, brightening the entire room.
Seeing this, Jasper Shaw pursed his lips and said, "I’ll have Ian Winters change the curtains tomorrow."
He had never noticed it when he was alone, but now, the villa’s decor felt far too cold and impersonal.
Hearing this, Chloe Sinclair turned and rolled her eyes, retorting, "Don’t make Ian do everything. He needs to go home for the holidays, too."
Jasper Shaw had been about to say that his assistant was on call 365 days a year, but one look from Chloe Sinclair and he immediately shut his mouth.
Finally, he said in a slightly wronged tone, "Then I’ll change them myself tomorrow."
"Good." Chloe Sinclair immediately gave him a look as if to say, ’Now you’re learning.’
Chloe Sinclair spent the afternoon at Jasper Shaw’s villa. When dinnertime came, she found the refrigerator completely empty and decided they should go out to eat.
Luckily, Kennet had plenty of night markets, so Chloe Sinclair had the sudden idea to go get some skewers.
Seeing Jasper Shaw’s lack of reaction, she suddenly remembered he had probably never had them before.
So she explained, "It’s street food. It’s actually pretty good once in a while."
Jasper Shaw seemed to understand. He nodded and said, "Then I’ll go change my clothes."
"Let’s go eat street food together."
