Arriving at the night market, Chloe Sinclair ordered some BBQ, then sat down at the neighboring crawfish stall and ordered ten pounds of crawfish.

It was Jasper Shaw’s first time eating at a street stall, and he found everything novel.

He copied Chloe’s technique to peel a whole piece of crawfish meat and placed it in her bowl.

The sight of crawfish made Chloe so excited she could hardly contain herself. She kept her head down, busily devouring the crawfish, when suddenly a piece of meat appeared in her bowl. She looked up, confused.

"Eat."

As he spoke, Jasper quickly peeled another piece of crawfish and held it to Chloe’s lips, his eyes filled with adoration. "Open up."

Chloe instinctively opened her mouth, and the delicate crawfish meat instantly filled her entire mouth.

’So freaking good!’

Chloe’s eyes crinkled in bliss. Chewing like a little hamster, she said, "You have some too."

Jasper nodded, but he placed every crawfish he peeled into Chloe’s bowl.

It wasn’t until Chloe finished the last piece of crawfish that she realized Jasper hadn’t eaten a single bite himself.

She asked, a little puzzled, "You don’t like it?"

She thought for a moment. In her past life, she truly couldn’t recall ever seeing Jasper eat at a street stall.

The one and only time, she had dragged Jasper to eat a BBQ skewer. But the place was crowded, and someone bumped into her, causing her to fall right into him.

And the skewer of dried tofu ended up squashed between them.

Chloe thought for a moment, then passed him the BBQ skewers the owner of the next stall had just brought over. "Here."

Jasper glanced at the greasy skewer, then met Chloe’s big, dark eyes. He picked one up, nodded, and took a bite.

He ate quickly, yet with a refined grace that was a pleasure to watch.

When he was done, Jasper wiped his mouth and nodded. "Not bad at all."

’Although it couldn’t compare to a hotel meal, eating in a place like this had a special charm of its own.’

Chloe smiled. "Of course it is. Back when I was in Corvin, I couldn’t afford to eat this even when I wanted to."

Corvin was where Chloe had first lived.

Her family lived in a remote village, and they rarely visited even small towns. It wasn’t until she was older and started school that she was able to attend one a bit farther from home.

Back then, her adoptive parents wouldn’t let her continue her education, claiming her grades were poor.

But Chloe knew that if she didn’t get an education, she would truly have nothing left.

So, on top of her studies, she worked desperately to earn money every day.

But money was hard to come by for a student. She scrimped and saved every day, but life was still a struggle.

Back then, she couldn’t even bring herself to buy a street stall skewer for a yuan and a half.

Later, when she arrived in Kennet, the first thing Chloe wanted to do with her money was eat street food. But Nina told her that as a young lady of the Sinclair family, she had the media watching her every move, and eating at a street stall was far too degrading.

Not only did she foolishly believe it, but she was even grateful for Nina’s reminder.

But later, the media reported that the Sinclair family’s newly returned adopted daughter was frequenting high-end hotels, while the family’s true eldest daughter was seen at street stalls.

She was flamed so badly by netizens that she almost became a recluse.

As for now...

’I’ll do whatever I want!’

’Being true to myself is the most important thing, no matter what.’

’There are so many opinions out there; it’s impossible to live according to everyone else’s expectations.’

Chloe watched Jasper start on a second skewer and said, "We should come out and eat like this again sometime. I really like it."

"Alright. There are BBQ places in Emberfall, too. I’ll take you."
