Chapter 409 - 398: I Lied to You
Chloe Sinclair’s parkour video was only circulating within a small circle.
She was confident her professors wouldn’t see the video.
However, for all her careful planning, she had forgotten about one person: Jasper Shaw.
The moment the video was posted online, the Shaw Group’s PR department noticed it.
Chairman Shaw was the first to see the video.
Not long after Chloe Sinclair had begun to secretly celebrate not getting caught, Jasper Shaw called her directly.
He was still abroad, and from the looks of it, it was early in the morning where he was.
The moment she answered the video call, Chloe Sinclair felt a twinge of guilt.
On the call, he seemed to see right through her. He narrowed his eyes slightly, but instead of calling her out, he simply asked, "What did you do today?"
Chloe Sinclair: "..."
She froze for a moment, her expression stiffening.
She had faced so much without ever panicking, but his question made her scalp tingle. Suddenly, she was at a loss for words.
"I... I didn’t go out and do anything today. I just had a meal with a classmate."
Chloe Sinclair thought for a moment. ’That’s a pretty good excuse,’ she decided.
But seeing Jasper Shaw remain silent on the other end of the call, Chloe nervously touched her ear, a bad feeling creeping over her.
Then, Jasper Shaw let out a soft hum. His voice was deep and magnetic, like a cello in an old concert hall, sending a shiver down to her very bones.
"And after your meal, you went to do parkour in Westwood with your classmate?"
Chloe Sinclair: ...
’Just as I thought.’
She mumbled in agreement. Knowing she couldn’t hide it anymore, she explained, "I just went this one time since I got back, and I was really careful."
Jasper Shaw raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable.
"I showed the video to your professors."
As soon as she heard that, Chloe’s eyes widened, her face a mask of disbelief.
"Mr. Shaw, how could you sell me out!"
’He told my professors? Aren’t I going to be lectured for days on end?’
Seeing her teetering on the verge of suspicion and anger, he finally spoke up. "I’m kidding. I didn’t tell your professors."
’After all, the professors at the School of Physics had blocked him long ago. How could he possibly still have their contact info?’
However, Chloe Sinclair was still skeptical. She tilted her head. "You’re not lying?"
Jasper Shaw gave a wry smile. "If I’m lying, I’m a puppy."
Only then did Chloe Sinclair let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh, right. Are you abroad?"
Chloe Sinclair glanced at the view from the window behind Jasper Shaw. It looked a bit like a famous landmark in Meridia.
Of course, she didn’t think he was there on vacation.
"There’s a rather important meeting here in Meridia that I need to attend in person. I’ll be here for about a week."
Chloe Sinclair did the math and realized she had a lab experiment that day.
So she shrugged, sounding a little resigned. "I can’t pick you up from the airport this time. I have something going on that day, so I probably won’t make it."
Jasper Shaw wasn’t disappointed.
He knew she had two major lab projects recently, so he didn’t mind.
The two of them talked for over an hour before hanging up.
Just then, a message came in from Gabriel Sinclair.
Her movie, *Rivers and Mountains*, had been officially scheduled for release, and there was a pre-release interview and ceremony that the lead actors were required to attend.
It was scheduled for a week from now—the day after Jasper was due back.
Chloe Sinclair hadn’t wanted to go, but since she was the star, she had no choice but to attend the promotional ceremony.
And so, she agreed to attend the promotional ceremony and interview.
