Chapter 289: Mockery
At the sight, someone couldn’t help but snort with laughter.
Nina Sinclair shot an angry glare in that direction, but the female student who had laughed at her immediately ducked her head. For a moment, Nina couldn’t tell who it was.
She was furious.
She quickly walked to the back of the room, planning to skip class as soon as the professor finished taking attendance.
However, to her surprise, the professor didn’t take attendance.
Nina Sinclair had no seat and couldn’t play on her phone. On top of that, she was wearing high heels, and before the class was even over, a piercing pain shot through her heels.
She was about to sneak out, but it was as if the professor sensed it. He looked up, his gaze landing in Nina Sinclair’s direction. "I will be taking attendance next period. If I call your name and you’re not here, you will automatically fail this course for the semester."
The moment Nina Sinclair heard that, she instantly gave up any thought of skipping class.
’I’ve been submitting myself to that old man every day. It was hard enough to get that cheapskate to promise me a role. I absolutely can’t let my grades drag me down now.’
But when she looked at the dense array of formulas and so-called experimental data on the board, it was all Greek to her.
"Nina Sinclair."
Suddenly, a calm voice called out from the lectern.
Nina Sinclair had been spacing out. Her eyes flashed with panic, and she immediately straightened her posture.
"Hahaha, the professor is just calling on her. Nina Sinclair must have been spacing out again."
Hearing this, Nina Sinclair’s face turned beet red.
After class, Nina Sinclair angrily climbed into a white Rolls-Royce.
"Baby, what’s wrong?"
As soon as she got in, a man wrapped his arms around her.
The man’s salt-and-pepper beard brushed against her shoulder. Suppressing her disgust, Nina Sinclair said pitifully, "Honey, I was bullied today!"
The man’s brow furrowed at her words. He looked around and asked, "How are you? Are you hurt?"
Nina Sinclair shook her head, but her face was full of grievance. "I’m not hurt, but I was so humiliated."
A flash of hatred crossed Nina Sinclair’s eyes. She turned and straddled the man’s lap. "Didn’t you say you’re very powerful? Can you help me think of a way to deal with Chloe Sinclair?"
The man was none other than Joseph Shaw, Jasper Shaw’s father.
Joseph Shaw was over fifty this year, but his face looked like that of a man in his sixties, showing all the signs of a life of debauchery.
He was immensely pleased to hear Nina Sinclair praise him like that.
But when he heard the name Chloe Sinclair, his expression faltered for a moment.
"Baby, you know my son and Chloe Sinclair are close..."
Nina Sinclair’s eyes darkened. ’Useless,’ she thought.
But her eyes filled with a pitiful look that would break anyone’s heart.
Joseph Shaw could never resist this look from her, and his heart instantly softened.
"I’d love to help you teach that bitch Chloe Sinclair a lesson. If it weren’t for her back then, I wouldn’t have..."
Joseph Shaw’s face soured as a memory surfaced, but he quickly cut himself off.
"Wouldn’t have what?" Nina Sinclair caught the key words and couldn’t help but ask.
"It’s nothing."
Joseph Shaw said resentfully, "I’d love nothing more than to make Chloe Sinclair wish she were dead, but her background is just too powerful. Even I can’t go head-to-head with her."
"Never mind the Sinclair Family’s resources—just look at Chloe Sinclair’s brothers. Every single one of them is a titan who can command the winds and rains."
"If they got angry and decided to stir things up, wouldn’t they turn the whole world upside down?"
Joseph Shaw may have been boorish, but that didn’t mean he was brainless.
He would never agree to something like that for Nina Sinclair.
