Chapter 312 - 313: Pathetic
The hospital wasn’t a tall building, only about seven stories high.
Ordinarily, the crowd below wouldn’t have heard Mia Warren’s crying and shouting, but she had somehow gotten her hands on a megaphone.
"It’s all Chloe Sinclair’s fault! She’s the one who ruined my life!"
"She destroyed my leg!"
In the crowd, many people were murmuring, wondering who Chloe Sinclair was.
But as they watched Mia cry on the rooftop for what felt like an eternity without jumping, someone couldn’t help but shout, "Are you here to kill yourself or not? If you are, hurry up and jump! Don’t waste everyone’s time!"
The moment the words left the man’s mouth, he felt a powerful tug on his back.
He frowned and turned around impatiently. "What are you looking at..."
But his eyes landed on Chloe Sinclair’s, which were as clear and cool as autumn water. The curse died on his lips, and he didn’t know what to say.
"Sir, if she jumps, you could be held legally responsible, you know."
The man’s brow furrowed, and he stubbornly craned his neck. "I didn’t do anything!"
"Didn’t do anything?" Chloe Sinclair chuckled coldly. "You just killed her."
Whatever Mia Warren’s reasons for wanting to kill herself, the man’s words had just broken the law and violated moral decency.
Chloe Sinclair didn’t like Mia Warren, but she had even less respect for this crowd of gawkers who loved to stir up trouble.
’How are they any different from the apathetic masses in Mr. Rhodes’s books?’
’Pathetic.’
Chloe Sinclair looked away from the man, her gaze shifting to the rooftop.
Her eyesight was excellent.
Even from dozens of meters below, Chloe Sinclair could see everything clearly.
Below Mia Warren was a patch of rooftop turf.
The firefighters had already inflated a yellow air cushion, which stood two meters high.
After a quick visual assessment, Chloe Sinclair slipped into the hospital building.
A minute later, she took the elevator to the top floor.
Before she even reached the rooftop, Chloe Sinclair could hear Mia Warren’s sobs.
As she reached the door, a firefighter spotted Chloe Sinclair.
"What are you doing here? Do you know her?"
Chloe Sinclair nodded.
Then she looked toward Mia Warren and shouted, "Is the surgery over already?"
The anesthesia probably hadn’t worn off yet, so Mia Warren couldn’t feel how much her leg actually hurt.
Hearing the voice, Mia Warren turned her head and instantly saw the person who terrified her to her very soul.
"Chloe Sinclair!"
The fear lasted only a moment before being replaced by a vicious glare.
’Her mind is still quite clear.’ She had to admit, she was a little impressed.
"I heard you’ve been sitting on this rooftop for almost forty minutes. The crowd downstairs has been staring up at you for forty minutes, too. So, are you going to jump or not?"
As soon as Chloe Sinclair spoke, the firefighter behind her shot her a disapproving look.
"It’s none of your business!"
Mia Warren’s rage surged, her eyes burning like a blazing fire.
A glint flashed in Chloe Sinclair’s eyes as she continued, "If you’re not going to jump, then come down. Do you really want all these people to watch you make a fool of yourself?"
Hearing this, Mia Warren instinctively glanced down at the chattering, clamorous crowd below.
In truth, she couldn’t hear what any of them were saying.
It was all just a jumbled mess of noise. Occasionally, a few words from a man would carry up, but she couldn’t tell who had said them.
She was about to snap back at Chloe Sinclair, but when she turned her head, she saw a face suddenly looming over her.
By the time she realized what was happening, Mia Warren instinctively tried to jump, but an overwhelmingly powerful force yanked her back up.
A sharp pain shot through her rear as she landed hard. Before she could even process it, she saw Chloe Sinclair’s ice-cold expression.
